Mini Cooper S

This is perhaps the best Cooper that Mini had created yet and we knew it’s true because Mini already launched the 3 door Cooper D and the 5 Door Cooper D in the Indian market. The new comes with lot of noteworthy changes and quite honestly it is the most practical Mini ever made. Based on the new UKL front wheel drive platform (which by the way is also shared with the BMW 1 series), the new hatchback perhaps in not exactly a “Mini car” anymore because it is taller, broader, and wider than the previous Mini, what was even more surprising was the fact they even considered a 5 door hatchback variant besides the other models which had practicality of a premium hatch.

We all know that Mini is available with different engine options and variants and the most powerful variants amongst them all is the Cooper S which was actually introduced way back in the year 1963 to the Mini lineup. The Cooper S variant of the Mini was created specifically for the competitive racing purposes and till now it has a reputation of a “hatch which handles like a Go-cart”.

Powered by a new twin turbo 4 cylinders 2.0 Litre petrol engine which is actually more powerful than the unit it replaces besides also being the biggest and the most powerful engine ever used under the hood of a Mini hatch. Interestingly! This new hatch surely can throw some punch when required; it has an impressive overall top speed of 230 km/h while also offering practicality which perhaps was the biggest concerns for many Mini customers earlier.

Mini Gets New Scissor Doors As An Optional Equipment

Mini Gets New Scissor Doors As An Optional Equipment

Now squeeze your Mini even on tightest parking spaces

To make sure people uses every inch of tight parking space they get inside the city Mini has decided to provide the new Mini with an optional scissor doors.

Initially this new feature will only be available with few Mini models which include the MINI 3 door, MINI Paceman and the new MINI Convertible. Later the benefits of the new feature will be extended to some other Mini models as well including the MINI 5 door, the 6-door MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman with their 2017 model year.

Now for those who are not aware of what a scissor door actually is, these doors open vertically unlike conventional doors which opens sideways and needs more space especially when you are parking your car in tight spaces. The electro hydraulically activated wing doors reduce parking space width including the amount of space which is required for both the driver and the front passenger to enter or exit their vehicle by an amazing 30 percent. Basically the Mini is just 1,727 millimeters wide and thus it can fit into any parking space with ease.

According to Dalf Rietmann, Head of Special Equipment Management with MINI, the doors can also be opened or closed via a remote control apart from conjunction access which is available as an additional extra. This conjunctional access allows the driver or the front passenger to open the doors by the help of a button fitted on the door handle. All you need is the ignition key on the driver’s pocket. Mini even has plans to open or close the doors with the help of a Smartphone and the ‘Mini excitement App’ which will be made available in the near future.

Mini Convertible 2016 Launched in India at 34.9 lakhs

Mini Convertible 2016 Launched in India at 34.9 lakhs

Mini adds one more model to their existing portfolio

The long awaited Mini Convertible 2016 has finally stepped on the Indian soil, at ex-showroom prices starting from 34.9 lakhs. At this price bracket, this new Mini Convertible is being touted as one of the most expensive hatchbacks on offer in the country. In addition to the Convertible 2016, Mini India (an entity of the BMW Group) sells three other models in its portfolio – Cooper, Cooper S, and Countryman.

The luxury hatchback segment in India has continuously showcased immense growth in the last couple of years. This growth is being attributed to the fact that the Indian economy is on an upward incline, but roads in the country are suffering from a shortage of space for large executive saloons. As a result, people are opting for hatchbacks that can offer luxuries of a high-end sedan, wrapped in relatively compact dimensions. Though Mini India was the only manufacturer fulfilling this customer requirement a couple of years back, various new brands have entered the luxury hatchback segment over time. In order to curb this competition, the British automaker has introduced the new Mini Convertible 2016 in the Indian market.

2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible

2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible

The Mini Cooper S goes topless

We are very much conscious about Volkswagen Beetle; those little bugs like vehicles have an irreplaceable and undeniable charm indeed. Although the German iconic car has a permanent place in every automobile enthusiast’s heart, but it is not sure why the MINI cars, which are substantially close to the Beetle’s, could not gain the permanent place in the petrol head’s heart.

Well, without going deeper we can assume Beetle has a long history and it was first produced as the first “people’s car” of the world. On the other hand, MINI vehicles have always delivered an elegant charm and aura which is not very close to the “people’s car” theory.

Coming back to India, BMW has made quite a profit in the country. But their subsidiary MINI couldn’t make it upto the mark. Only a few people of the country, mostly from the elegant class, use this car and that too, in a very small number. Getting Amitabh Bachchan as their prized customer MINI couldn’t afford a good share of Indian automobile market pie.

Convertibles bring us the charm and aura from the long gone era, when driving on street was so much pleasure, streets were not crowded. But as time evolved, convertibles also took a new face. MINI Cooper S Convertible come in the same way. The drop top version from the British iconic car manufacturer was unveiled a few days ago, just before the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. There is no news yet about the car launching in India. But as we have heard, this car may arrive in India sometime next year. Therefore we tried to bring our readers a detailed review of 2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible.

Update 17.03.2016: Mini Cooper S Converticble launched in India. We have updated the review with new informations and images.

A Peek Inside Mr. Amitabh Bachhan's Garage

A Peek Inside Mr. Amitabh Bachhan’s Garage

In the recently released movie Piku, he had a serious problem with her daughter in the driving seat of Toyota Innova, but in real life Amitabh Bachhan seems to have sheer passion to drive instead of sitting at the rear seats, and that passion comes with another interest, which is getting the luxury cars at his garage.

The success Amitabh Bachhan got in his long spanned career is beyond envy, just like his car collection. Presently he owns few of the most luxurious vehicles in the country, such as Rolls Royce Phantom, Bentley continental GT, Bentley Arnage R, Mercedes Benz SL500, Porsche Cayman S, Range Rover Vogue, Lexus LX470, Mercedes Benz E240, BMW X5, BMW 7 series, Mercedes S 320, Toyota Land Cruiser and many more.

Today we would like to take our readers to have a look at Big B’s garage.

Video: Guinness World record For Most donuts around a car driving on two wheels

Records are meant to be broken and this week is perhaps the week where numbers of interesting records is being made. We have already showed you the video of the highest truck jump and now its turn for the record involving two cars amongst which one is actually driving on two wheels.

In this video you can watch Han Yue from China achieving the Guinness World record of performing the most number of donuts around a car driving on two wheels. Han Yue was driving a BMW M4 Coupe while the BMW Mini 3 door which was moving on two wheels was driven by Zhang Shengjun. Han completed a total of 10 successful donuts around the Mini 3 door in just 1 minute. It is really a tough stunt to perform but Han has actually made the stunt look easy with his great driving skills and accurate timing sense.

Han Yue is the same person who holds the record of tightest parallel parking in a MINI hatch. Han was able to slide his MINI 3 door hatch into a tight parking space and left a gap of just 8 cm longer than the car he was driving (The video of has been provided below.)

2014 Mini Cooper 5 Door

2014 Mini Cooper 5 Door

All of us are quite familiar with the Mini hatch for those who aren’t it is the same small Green car that British actor Rowan Atkinson used to drive in the Mr. Bean television series and films. It is one popular iconic British small car which also was once voted the second most influential car of the 20th Century but as time passed Mini has slowly transformed itself into a mature car, take a look at the recently unveiled Mini Cooper 5 door and you will understand why I am calling it a mature car. The new Mini isn’t exactly a Mini anymore and it now comes with 5 doors and useable boot space just like any other hatch you will find in the market.

Perhaps Mini under the BMW ownership has decided to make all their products more practical which could also be used on a daily basis. I don’t know about other Countries though but this definitely is one useful product for our Indian market because of the increasing competition in the premium small car market. Mini started its journey way back in the early 60’s; it was a small car which roamed on the streets of Britain. The Mini was an economy car which came with different kind of body shape but the most popular amongst them was the two door hatch version.

Now as far as the automaker BMW is concerned, they already has already started the manufacturing process of their premium products in the Indian market and we are pretty sure that when this 5 door Cooper enters our Indian market this will be priced more aggressively than the existing Mercedes A Class which is at present is the entry level hatch from the stable of German premium auto manufacturer because this car perhaps will also be assmbled in India instead of the CBU(Complete built unit) unit which will bring the overall prices down.

The Mini Cooper 5 door will be available with 4 engine options but we are still not sure which of these variants will make it to the Indian market yet.

2014 Delhi Auto Expo: Mini John Cooper Works is coming to India

2014 Delhi Auto Expo: Mini John Cooper Works is coming to India

Mini- makers of premium lifestyle cars like the Cooper S and Countyman will soon launch a new product in India. The 2014 Delhi Auto Expo is just around the corner and today we’re glad to report that Mini will launch the hotter, sportier version, famously known as John Cooper Works in the country.

John Cooper’s automotive skills came to light as very first original Mini took the world rally circuit by storm. Cooper was responsible for building the race cars based on the Mini Cooper. Today, his son heads the tuning company which provides performance upgrades for the Mini Cooper.

The Mini John Cooper Works is thus a highly tuned version based on the Cooper S and Countryman models. The tuning upgrades vary according the overall output generated from the stock engine block. The exterior treatment is nothing but subtle. The Mini JCW gets a more bolder look thanks to the large wheels and a lowered ride height. The interior too has been spiced up.

Along with the John Cooper Works car, the Mini pavilion will also have exclusive John Cooper Works Accessories on display and the rest of the Mini range.

OVERVIEW 2015 MINI Cooper

2015 MINI Cooper

In an era where most manufacturers were producing long and beefy vehicles, the launch of BMC’s (that’s British Motor Corporation)little Austin Mini in 1959 took the world by storm. Its design and proportions were something out of the ordinary and, not to mention, its space saving front-wheel-drive architecture and superb go-kart-like handling influenced a whole new generation of cars. With all these credentials in hand, the Austin Mini and the rebadged Morris Minor were considered to be the "must-have" cars in its time, selling in high volumes in its home market as well as other markets. It wasn’t just a car made with urban commute in mind. The Austin Mini Cooper and Cooper S were rally derivatives of the standard car that won the Monte Carlo Rally four times, an impressive feat for a small hatchback

With all this glorious history behind, the Mini was indeed an highly revered automobile. It has won awards like the "Car of the Century" from AutoCar, "Number One Classic Car of All Time" by Classic & Sports Car and it was considered to be the 2nd most influential car of all time, place behind Ford’s Model T. Therefore, it can be said that the Austin Mini (and its derivatives) is one of the main reasons why Britain is on the map, in the automobile industry point-of-view.

Later on, realizing how rich the history was and how they could make it a selling point in the future, BMW acquired Mini and its rights. The result of this was witnessed in 2001 when BMW announced the MINI Cooper and Cooper S, the first product launched under the MINI marque. It was a car that delicately balanced the iconic styling of its predecessors and the state-of-the art tech that BMW was (and is) known for. The second-generation of the MINI Cooper was announced in 2006 with significant improvements to the underlying platform, engine and safety. What initially was a budget hatchback in the 1960’s morphed into this premium offering that attracted the rich youth, thanks to BMW.

So, those are the giant shoes that the new 2014 MINI Cooper has to fill. And with the new BMW platform, new range of engines and state-of-the-art tech, it certainly is a promising offering from the Oxford-based brand. Is it?

2013 Mini Cooper S Roadster

2013 Mini Cooper S Roadster

Not just in India but around the world there aren’t many cars that attract attention quite like the Mini. With its snappy styling, the Mini is an eye catcher. While so far in India Mini has only launched the Cooper, Cooper S and the Countryman, a model that we think the manufacturer could consider bringing to India if its existing line up receives a positive response is the Cooper S Roadster. The Cooper S Roadster is a close relative of the Cooper Coupe and both these cars were developed simultaneously. While the Coupe was launched last year, the Roadster went on sale only earlier this year. This is also the sixth Mini variant to appear since BMW revived the brand in 2001 and the first Roadster in Mini’s history to wear a Mini. The Mini Cooper S is priced at just under 28lakhs ex-showroom New Delhi in India and if Mini does launch the Roadster in India we expect it to be 3 or 4 lakhs more expensive than the Cooper S.

2012 Mini Cooper S

2012 Mini Cooper S

It was the 1966 Monte Carlo Rally which made Mini the iconic brand that it is today. Relatively unknown till before its participation in the Monte, that was the moment in Mini’s history which the manufacturer can say really brought it into the limelight. The British Motor Company’s Mini Cooper finished first, second and third against larger and more powerful cars. Unfortunately the Mini cars were disqualified because of a stupid bulb issue in their headlight but that didn’t take away from the achievement as Mini announced itself on the world map. The Mini Cooper dominated world rallying in the 60’s with its nimble manners, compactness and inspired drivetrains. Mini’s road to stardom was nevertheless written right there despite its disqualification and now India has become 100th country for the Mini brand. All the Mini models will come in via the CBU route and there are no current plans for production in India which will make owning this hatch an expensive proposition. The Mini Cooper S is priced at Rs 27.90lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

2012 Mini Cooper

2012 Mini Cooper

When the Mini arrived in 2001 there were a few mutterings especially from the die-hard Mini enthusiasts. They felt betrayed feeling that the Mini’s original’s values had been compromised with. When BMW re-launched the Mini it did away with ‘efficient transportation’ with which the car was associated with and replaced that with greater value on style, brand prestige and fun. SinceBMW bought the marque, the story of Mini has been one of the greatest automotive success stories of our time and the world now sees the new Mini as a thoroughly modern, distinctive and desirable car. Prices for the Mini Cooper start from Rs 24.9lakh for the hatchback to Rs 29.99lakh for the Cooper Convertible ex-showroom New Delhi.

Mini Cooper comes to India in 2012

Mini Cooper comes to India in 2012

It’s no secret that there is a pot of gold buried in India and its waiting to uncovered. And with the intention to do just that, BMW decided to enter its Mini brand in 2012. This is a very niche segment and the Mini will be sold along with the Volkswagen Beetle and Fist 500.

At the start the Mini Cooper will be sold only in New Delhi and in Mumbai and BMW will expand the dealership network step by step into other cities. BMW will first bring the Mini Cooper model but we still don’t know which version will be available for India. The hatch is also expected to be priced at over Rs 25 lakh.

In a statement BMW India President Andreas Schaaf said, "I am pleased to announce that the Mini will be introduced in India in 2012. Currently, the BMW team is evaluating which version to be launched in India from the entire Mini family. We have not finalized the price of the car yet, but it is a premium brand and a premium car."
