We never actually take the brand Mini seriously yes! It is a fun car which handles like a dream and can be used for weekend fun drives. But who ever thought that Mini can also be practical and also can replace your daily car. After BMW acquired Mini they wanted people to take this brand more seriously and as a result they have tried to expand the Mini range and launch some more practical cars without actually losing its original identity.
Mini introduced the Clubman back in 2007, although the vehicle looked identical to the Mini hatchback but the car actually received an extended form the cars B pillar onward. This has actually helped in increasing the rear seat legroom and also the cargo space at the rear. Now Mini will be launching the new Clubman in India in December 2016 and this will also be the first time that the BMW owned British car brand will launch the Clubman in this Country. The Clubman is all about daily functionality and practicality and also long distance suitability. This Mini gets a powerful front end with round headlamps which also get integrated LED day time running lamps as well. The typical Mini Cooper like front grille surrounded by the dash of chrome. The interior of the Clubman has been restyled completely. The new Clubman gets a slightly bigger instrument panel with the cockpit fascia frame in the upper section. The signature circular shaped instrument panel gets LED lighting rings around it. This round instrument cluster also display information related to the vehicles infotainment, phone and also navigation system. Just below the round central instrument panel are the switches for air conditioning control unit and toggle switches below the central instrument.
The interior also gets two cup holders just behind the shift stick and also electric parking brakes and storage compartments. Some variants also gets an additional high end decorating strips and for the central console and the door panels as well. Overall the cars interior looks big and spacious it provides comfortable seating for 5 occupants inside courtesy to the extended wheelbase. Without the seats being folded down the the Clubman provides about 360 Litres of boot space. However with the rear backrests folded in 40: 20: 40 folding split helps in extracting maximum storage space of 1, 250 Litres.
As far as the reports suggests the Mini Clubman will be launched in the Indian market in two variants, the Cooper S and the Cooper D. While the Cooper S is powered by 2.0 Litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology which helps in producing about 192 hp of peak power at 5 000 rpm and maximum torque of 280 Nm produced at 1 250 rpm. This car also produces 300 NM of torque with overboost. Talking about performance the Mini Cooper S is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h mark in just 7.2 seconds while it can reach a top speed of 228 km/h mark.
The other variant which is also expected to launch in the Indian market is the Mini Cooper D Clubman which is powered by a 2.0 Litre, twin turbocharged 4 cylinder diesel engine. This unit produces about 150 hp of peak power at 4 000 rpm and maximum torque of 330 Nm at 1 750 rpm. This variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark in 8.6 seconds while it has a top speed of 212 km/h mark.
Both the engines are paired to a 8 speed automatic gearbox which sends all those power to the front wheels.
Mini has always been known for its ride and handling and the Clubman is also not so different. The car gets single-joint strut front axle with completely newly developed components and multilink rear axle. The Clubman’s overall width, and weight are also optimised for better construction and level of stiffness and it also gets a larger track as well. The car has also received an electro mechanical steering wheel as well.
The Mini Clubman gets an option of 16 or 17 inch alloy wheels. The Mini also gets different driving modes as well which is optionally available as well. There are three different driving modes which includes MID, SPORT and GREEN modes. These modes can be selected with the help of the rotary switch which is positioned towards the base of the gear lever.
MINI has launched the second generation MINI Clubman in India priced at INR 37,90,000 (ex-showroom New Delhi).
Mini has been successful in what they really wanted to make out of the Clubman. The car still retains the identical Mini styling but is not actually mini like its other siblings.
