2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The GLC is available in the Indian market with both diesel and petrol drivetrains

Mercedes-Benz definitely is on a roll they have launched plenty of new products in the recent years and also given their existing products a thorough makeover starting from their sedans to the SUV’s. Many of you will obviously remember the GLK class which was compact Crossover from the German auto manufacturer which was actually launched back in the year 2008, this was obviously smaller than the GL class and shared most of its styling also.

Now in the year 2015 Mercedes Benz launched the second generation GLK class renamed as GLC as per as the new Nomenclature which was opted by Mercedes. What is interesting about the new SUV is the fact that this now looks nothing like the bigger Mercedes SUV’s rather it borrows most of its styling cues from the C-Class sedan which took us by surprise. Until now the GLK was not introduced in the Indian market but it was available in most of the International markets (so perhaps we Indians don’t know much about this Crossover) but according to the reports the new GLC will definitely come to the Indian shores because unlike the model it replaces this SUV is also made available with a right hand drive.

Expect this new SUV to arrive in India by the second half of 2016 and it is still unclear whether Mercedes will be bringing the new SUV via the CKD or CBU route and when it does arrive in the market this SUV will be positioned on top of the GLA and below the GLE Class. The new SUV was launched with three engine options including two diesels and one petrol unit. All these engines provides an impressive amount and torque output while the petrol variant is also offered with an impressive all new 9 speed automatic gearbox.

The new GLC Class definitely looks promising and also will satisfy everyone’s needs with its new styling and powerful engine options.

Update 02.06.2016:- Mercedes has launched the GLC luxury SUV in India. The new GLC is made available in both petrol and diesel variants. The prices for the new GLC has been updated in this article.

NO SUV is pretty but Mercedes Benz has a reputation of building boxy SUV which definitely is not accepted by many because they look odd perhaps Mercedes too noticed that and that is why they have spent a lot of time behind their design boards and created the new GLC.

The SUV definitely does not look boxy at all and if you take a look at its front profile and you will instantly realize that it has taken its design clues from the C Class. The front headlamps even the grille with the three pointed star logo and two louvers on its looks so similar to the ones available with the C Class. The headlamp looks sharp and is also available with high performance LED units as well. The bumpers look stylish and also come with an additional integrated underguard.

While look towards the side profile and the GLC has lot of resemblance to a coupe specially its glass area. The coupe like impression is further strengthened with the dropping line which also is the signature styling of Mercedes and also by its powerful shoulders, while one can also notice two strong character lines running towards the side profile. Mercedes offers plenty of wheel size options for the GLC.

Towards the rear profile the GLC is characterized by its strong shoulder line and offcourse the split LED taillamps. Mercedes-Benz is also offering different bumper variants for the rear as well.

Overall the GLC gets this radiator trim with two louvers finished in matt iridium silver and chrome inserts. The SUV gets short overhang while the radiator grille with twin louvers also holds the star logo in the middle of it. The headlamps units are full LED high performance lamps which promises to provide excellent illumination during night. Towards the side profile the GLC gets a powerful shoulder line and a sloping dropping line towards the rear which also is the hallmark design feature of Mercedes. The SUV also gets impressive 18 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels as well which further enhances the sporty appeal of the SUV. Towards the rear the GLC gets broad shoulders, split LED taillamps design and because this is the edition 1 car there is also an additional ‘Edition 1’ badge towards the rear profile.
