Mercedes-Benz India inaugurated phase II of the production facility at Chakan, Pune and according to the report Mercedes Benz has invested a total of 100 Crores behind this project. This new facility is spread over 40 hectares at Pune and has a capacity of producing 20, 000 Units annually. The new production facility was inaugurated in presence of the Shri Prakash Javadekar, Honorable Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change; Shri Subhash Desai, Honorable Industry Minister, Maharashtra; Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Piyush Arora, Executive Director, Operations, Mercedes-Benz India, the Pune facility also becomes the largest facility for any luxury car manufacturer in India.
Beside some other products like the
C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GL-Class and M-Class this new facility will also start assembling the GLA SUV as well which will also mark a new milestone for Mercedes Benz because for the first time the German luxury car manufacturer will be producing compact cars in its globally assembly network beside some other already mentioned SUV’s and sedans. Mercedes Benz beside India also spread their localization network in some other Countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Malayasia, Indonesia while the Brazil plant is still under construction.
Now coming to the GLA Class Mercedes will be locally assembling the GLA’s 200 CDI variant at the newly inaugurated Chakan production facility. The GLA is definitely one of the important products in the Mercedes Benz product portfolio and which helps them to occupy an important position in India’s luxury compact SUV segment. The GLA compact SUV not only looks stylish but it also has some capable offroading feature. The local production of GLA will help it to enhance value addition for the Indian customers.
