“Is it always Angry?” Perhaps these are the few words that will first come to your mind when you take a look at the new Mercedes AMG GT. The AMG GT is the successor of the iconic SLS AMG GT which was launched back in the year 2010, and this was also the very first car that was entirely developed and built by the AMG division which normally tweaks the stock Mercedes products and adds zing to them so they can become more meaner machines.

Now imagine a car which has been entirely built by the AMG division whose job is to make the stock products much more interesting.

I know what evil thoughts are rounding up in your mind right now and yes! The SLS AMG GT used to look that wicked all that credit goes to its long front bonnet and that short rear overhung and that angry exhaust note. Oh! And did I forget to mention those gullwing doors which actually make you feel that the car used to have wings. Yes! It is an icon, but with the passing of time the SLS AMG GT was ageing and both Mercedes and AMG needed a successor immediately which could replace that icon, thus the AMG division started planning for its successor long time ago secretly and it had to be equally worthy to replace one of the most iconic Grand Tourer of all time.

We have recently seen some other legendary cars retiring and their successor replacing them; take for example the Lamborghini Gallardo which was replaced by its successor Huracan. So Mercedes too needed a successful successor for its SLS AMG and at an event in Germany Mercedes unveiled the new AMG GT which comes with its front mid-engine concept and lightweight aluminium construction which actually is the formula needed for highly dynamic driving experience.

It is powered by a 4.0 Liter V8 bitturbo engine available in two states of tune one producing about 464 Hp of peak power while the other producing 510 Hp. We will definitely talk about its insane torque figures and all other details in this review.

"the AMG GT only has conventional doors instead of the Gullwing doors"

Like I mentioned before the Mercedes SLS AMG GT was known for its long bonnet and short overhung and those Gullwing doors which looked beautiful but unfortunately the new AMG GT missed out the Gullwing door Yes! It has conventional doors which open towards the side giving it a more practical appearance.

I know many people will be disappointed when they will read this but I can assure you that you all will love what you will see in this new car.

The overall design of the AMG GT is almost similar to its predecessor and AMG has not taken any risk to change the basic structure and design of the car which means the new AMG GT still has the same proportions as that of its predecessor. The AMG GT has the same long bonnet and small rear overhung while the other highlights are definitely the powerfully sculpted surface and flowing lines.

At the front of the car you will find the three-dimensional diamond radiator grille which is now used in many other Mercedes AMG cars as well which also holds the three pointed star logo in the middle. Then there is the AMG lettering too on the front grille. The AMG GT is also equipped with new high performance LED headlamps which also gets integrated eyebrow DRL (Daytime running lamps) that acts as the side lights and turn indicators. Just below the grille you will find huge air dams which actually intakes air and sends it to the cooling modules.

All those vehicles which comes out of the AMG house are low slung and wide and this car too is no different. The side profile of the AMG GT is accented by the air intake which has the V8 Bitturbo lettering on it. While those huge wheel arches and massive alloys steals the show. The AMG GT only has conventional doors instead of the Gullwing doors.

Walk towards the rear of the car and you will love the broad shoulder and those flat and wide taillamps which has been integrated with 18 individual LEDs on each unit. While the duel exhaust and the black diffuser adds a dramatic effect to the rear of the car. The boot of the car according to AMG is fairly practical there is also a Mercedes Logo placed on the Boot lid which looks neat.

The AMG GT with its muscular cuts, creases and the powerdome on the bonnet gives it a strong presence and character while also reminding about its sporty character at the same time. The work on the tail lamps and other minute details also gives us a hint the amount of time the AMG technicians has spent behind making this the perfect flagship sportscar for Mercedes.

Enter the AMG GT interiors and you will feel like you are sitting inside a cockpit of a jetfighter for sure because the AMG GT interiors are heavily inspired from the "aviation design" theme. Now as far as the space inside is concerned the new sportscar provides plenty of it for two person, afterall this is strictly a two seater. The AMG GT interior compromises of a deep, sloping dashboard and an arched high centre console. On the dash you will find exactly four round vents while there are two separate vents located at the right end and left end of the dash.

The new GT cabin has a driver focused dash and it looks like as if it has been taken straight from a motor racing vehicle. There will be choices to select between silver chrome, matt carbon fibre, high-gloss carbon fibre, black diamond and matt silver fiberglass, at the center of the dash you will notice the free standing the center display via which you can gain access to the AMG DRIVE UNIT via the DRIVE UNIT controls which are positioned on the center console.

The interior definitely gives you a rich feel with the usage of all those leather materials and leather wrapped sports seats. There is also an Engine Start/Stop switch on the left hand side of the drive unit illuminated in red. I specially loved everything about its interior specially those Red leather covered seats and the AMG UNIT Controls.

Push the Start switch to bring the fire breathing monster to life that’s right! the new AMG GT is powered by a 4.0 Liter V8 biturbo engine which has specially designed for the GT. This newly developed engine is also from the BlueDIRECT engine family and meant to deliver performance, power delivery while also being impressively fuel efficient due to its lightweight construction.

There are different drive modes according to which the engine responds but it really becomes a wild beats as soon as the M, or Race mode are activated. This engine technology are also used in the smaller 2.0 Liter turbo engine which also happens to be the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world and powers the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG. The new engine meets the Euro6 emission. The compact design ensures low emission and while also getting the optimum performance from the turbocharger. The AMG GT is also the very first engine which has turbochargers mounted inside the V configuration.

Lastly this got to be the most interesting part is that the AMG GT S which is the more powerful variant will be equipped with an AMG performance exhaust system with fully variable exhaust flaps, now what it actually does is that it allows the driver to vary the engine sounds depending on their mood and choice on whether they want it loud or soft.

These engines are so special that they are actually assembled by hand and the technician signature is available on the engine plate. Lastly the new AMG GT engine has been mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. With a mid-mounted engine the weight distribution of the new AMG GT is 47 percent at the front and 53 percent at the rear. Now lastly with all those advanced technologies and clever engineering leads to one thing and that is how fast exactly is the new AMG GT ? well! the GT Variant can reach the 100km/h mark in just 4.0 seconds while the top end GT S variant does the same in 3.8 seconds.

Mercedes fortunately launched the more powerful GT S variant which packs a lot of punch.

This is a sportscar in a true sense but the folks at the AMG Center in Germany also wanted to give it duel character which means it can be used both in the City as well as on the track. Thus it gets a double-wishbone suspension towards the front as well as rear. The vehicles low suspension height and selected suspension layout and that amazing steering response helps the driver in changing directions easily and all these features a directly taken from motorsport. The Wishbones, steering knuckles and hub carriers on the front and rear axle are made entirely out of forged aluminium in order to reduce the overall weight.

The new AMG GT also comes with AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping which is standard with the GT S variant and optional on the GT. Via these system the driver can adjust the damper settings.

The AMG GT body is made up entirely off light alloy while the boot lid is made out of steel while the front deck is made out of Magnesium. All these light weight materials are used to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. Unbelievably the whole bodyshell weighs only about 231 kilograms besides just being lightweight the aluminium spaceframe also provides the basis for outstanding passive safety. What helps in maintaining the perfect weight ratio is the fact that the engine is placed just behind the front axle while the gearbox is positioned between the rear axles.


Mercedes launched the AMG GT S in the Indian market and it is priced at INR. 2.40 Crores (ex-showroom Delhi).

The AMG GT S is available in following shades which includes Magnetic Black, Iridium silver, Brilliant Blue, Selenite Grey, designo finishes, Hyacinth Red, Diamond White Bright, AMG Solar Beam etc.



The Jaguar F-Type too is an amazing sportscar which was launched not so long ago by the British auto manufacturer. This is actually available with 2 different engines, the first one uses a 3.0-liter V-6 unit that produces 340PS and 450Nm torque while the same supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine engine has been tweaked 380PS and 460Nm of torque. This engine is capable of hitting the 100 km/h mark from standstill in just 4.8 seconds. While there is also V8S Roadster which produces about 550PS of power and 680Nm of torque. The engine has been mated to a ZF gearbox.


Frankly we are impressed with the Mercedes SLS AMG GT successor looks like and the technology it will be bringing with it. There is no doubt that this is indeed a very powerful machine which also has a gentle side to it. With that said, we also definitely will miss its predecessor, but we are also glad that this new AMG GT will do justice to its predecessor. We are quite excited that Mercedes launched their flagship sportscar in the Indian market and we all are also equally excited to find out how will it perform on our tough Indian road conditions.

Unmatched Performance:

AMG GT S’ AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine is a new development and the sporty heart of the new Mercedes-AMG GT. The strengths of this innovative eight-cylinder includes outstanding power delivery, systematic lightweight construction and high efficiency and environmental compatibility. With an output of 375 kW (510 hp) and maximum torque of 650 newton metres, the new AMG V8 delivers performance at motor racing level.

First sports car engine with ’hot inside V’ and dry sump lubrication

The new AMG V8 engine has two turbochargers which are not mounted on the outside of the cylinder banks but rather inside the V configuration – which is known as a ’hot inside V’. Dry sump lubrication allows the engine to be installed lower, which moves the centre of gravity closer to the road and forms the basis for high lateral acceleration. The AMG GT S’ engine is thus the world’s first sports car engine with hot inside V and dry sump lubrication. With a dry weight of 209 kg the new AMG V8 is also the lightest engine in its competitive segment.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT Drive programmes:

The AMG DYNAMIC Select augments dynamism and agility of the AMG GT S, even more. The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping comes as standard on the Mercedes-AMG GT S. The driver can adjust the damping characteristics by using the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes. Three stages are available: "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport plus". The AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension enables an exhilarating driving dynamics and the long-distance comfort that is a hallmark of an AMG. AMG Performance exhaust system

Emotionally appealing soundscape or discreet background noise, the adjustable

Electronic AMG rear- axle differential lock
The Mercedes-AMG GT S features the AMG rear axle differential lock which can adjust to defined locking ratios within milliseconds.
