2015 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Facelift)

The Maruti Ertiga was launched back in 2012 and It went on to become one of the popular MPVs of all time. Be it looks or interior space, the Ertiga had it all. What was even more exiting was the way it was priced. Later in the year 2013, Honda introduced the Mobilio, which became the biggest competitor of this MPV. The Mobilio had a powerful yet fuel efficient diesel engine on offer, which perhaps was the biggest USP of the particular MPV. Later in the year 2015, Renault introduced the Lodgy, which was way more spacious, than the other two.

All these new launches were perhaps the reason for decline in sales of the popular Ertiga MPV. The Ertiga has been here for almost three years now, and Maruti Suzuki had to make some updates to actually make their popular product work for longer period, until and unless the next generation vehicle hits the market. It was revealed for the first time in the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in 20th August, this year. Now there is nothing much to cheer about, because the facelift Ertiga gets few minor cosmetic updates to its exterior and interior. But recently we also came to know that the diesel variant will get the SHVS mild hybrid technology, which was recently introduced in the new Ciaz sedan.

Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz and Ertiga Score 4 Star Safety Rating in ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

Maruti-Suzuki is the most popular and best selling automotive brand in Indian market. The Ertiga from the Indo Japanese automotive brand is a very popular MPV in Indian market. In the sedan segment the Maruti-Suzuki introduced Ciaz, which was the company’s first take in the luxury segment. Now both the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga MPV and the Ciaz sedan has scored 4 star safety rating out of 5 in the ASEAN NCAP crash test, which marks these vehicles pretty safe ones.

Recently several Indian cars have been tested in the Global NCAP crash test, and very unfortunately all the cars have failed to get even one star rating. In wake of that event the four star rating of Ertiga and Ciaz is surely good news. Few days ago the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross also scored pretty well in the crash test. Therefore it is very much heartwarming that India’s largest automobile brand is taking the passenger safety issue pretty seriously.

Interestingly, compared to the Ciaz sedan the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga has scored less point in the Adult Occupant Protection segment. The Ertiga is a family oriented vehicle although rather than the Ciaz sedan. A notable point here is that the tested Ertiga and the Ciaz was manufactured outside of India. The Ertiga came from a plant in Indonesia and the Ciaz came from Thailand. Here, let’s take a close look at the individual crash test results of the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz.

At the front profile we can see the grilles come in form of three thick chrome slats which blend perfectly with the large headlamps clusters. While the fog lamps clusters are highlighted with thick chrome lining on the upper area.

The side profile doesn’t have any visible change except new electrically operational ORVMs, and the rear profile too got some rich chrome garnishing, as there is also a thick chrome bar sitting at the middle of the tail gate just above the registration enclosure, which reminds us about the Toyota Innova.

Maruti’s only MPV offering Ertiga, was able to stay in the limelight for a long time but recently due to the increasing competition and the arrival of some potential rivals it lost some of its limelight. When a product looses limelight, Maruti did what the other auto manufacturers does best, launch a facelift model.

Although the official launch is still far away, we have seen Maruti Suzuki testing the facelift model on Indian roads couple of times in the past. Recently the Ertiga facelift was caught testing and although it was covered in camouflage the test car gave us all the details of what we could actually expect from the soon to be launched facelift Ertiga.

To begin with the facelift Ertiga will definitely get a completely redesigned two slat chrome grille towards the front, while we can also notice a redesigned front as well as rear bumper in this soon to be launched facelift Ertiga. Although the rest of the exterior will mostly remains unchanged but we do expect few knick and knacks here and there which might come in the form of newly designed wheels, stickers and nameplates. Take a closer look at the image which focuses on the MPV’s interior and it reveals that the facelift Ertiga will get a new touchscreen infotainment system inside the cabin. Maruti might also add some other interesting features like a keyless entry and go with the facelift variant as well; other features might also include new steering wheel mounted controls. Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga Facelift To Launch on August 20th 2015

With the increasing competition in the MPV market of India the auto manufacturers needs to keep their products up to date in order to attract attention and that is what Maruti Suzuki did actually. According to the report Maruti Suzuki will be launching the facelift Ertiga later this year but before that Suzuki will display the Ertiga at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show which will be starting from August 20th.

The Ertiga is the only MPV offering from Maruti Suzuki which was launched back in the year 2012 and since then it has been one popular product in this segment but recently stiff competition from Renault Lodgy and the Honda Mobilio has taken toll on its sales figures and because Maruti has created a sweet spot for themselves in this segment they did not wanted to take any chances and thus thought of introducing the facelift soon in the Indian market.

The facelift Ertiga comes with plenty of changes both in its exterior as well as interior and the auto manufacturer has tried to give the existing MPV a more premium look and appeal. On the exterior there is not any major change except the new front grille which gets some chrome fabricating on it, while a new front bumpers has also been added to the front. Apart from that there are no major changes to the whole exterior except a new additional Chrome slat towards the rear number plate area. Inside the cabin the Eriga facelift will be getting some additional features which will come in the form of a new Start/Stop buttons, new multifunctional wheel with additional Phone call control switches and also an electrically foldable rear view mirror.

We have already provided couple of images / Spyshots of the upcoming facelift Maruti Ertiga being tested on Indian roads covered in heavy camouflage only towards the front which actually stated that Maruti Suzuki will be launching the facelift Ertiga only with some cosmetic changes towards the front face and now recently GaadiWaadi was able to click some images of the Ertiga MPV without any sort of Camouflage which actually gives us an idea about how the facelift variant will appear once it is launched in the market.

According to the images the facelift Ertiga received a new three slat grille which gets fully covered in Chrome and still holds the Suzuki logo in the middle. While the front bumper has been completely redesigned and gets a differently looking air dam while notice some touch of chrome towards the fog lamp area also, the headlamp unit too appears to be closer to the three slat grille. Take a closer look and you will also notice a new set of wheel covers towards the side profile while expect some more changes towards the rear profile too. The facelift Ertiga definitely has lost the friendly family charm and looks bolder perhaps this has been purposely done to give an equal amount of competition to the Mobilio MPV in terms of looks.

From the photographs it is quite clear that the facelift Ertiga has received some serious changes towards its front face which comes in the form of a new 3D slat grille unit finished in Chrome while the front nose now has a smaller air dam compared to the pre facelift variant, if one concentrates hard then can even notice some chrome elements on the fog lamps housing area towards the lower front bumper. Although there are still no clear images of the interior yet but you will definitely find some changes there too.

Maruti has been a mass-seller for almost every auto segment available in the Indian market today. Ever since they launched Ertiga, the sales figures of Toyota Innova took a dip downward because Maruti offered the product which was more fuel efficient, looked good and was way cheaper to own.

After few years in the market, the Ertiga was also able to beat its other competitors like the Chevrolet Enjoy, that though having the same engine as Ertiga’s and a rear-wheel drive option as well, but still couldn’t cater to the Maruti audience. But with the launch of the all-new Mobilio from Honda, Maruti has had to face a stiff competition, the Mobilio offered more power and better fuel-efficiency as well. So in order to cope up with its biggest competition Maruti is all set to introduce a facelift variant of the Ertiga soon.

The spy image reveals that Maruti has been testing their only LUV (Light Utility Vehicle) offering on the Indian roads which comes with minor updates. It is speculated that the new Ertiga will come with a new set of alloy-wheels and minor changes to the front and will also provide better fuel-efficiency. The car is expected to hit the the market by March 2015.

However under the hood follows the same story, the facelifted Ertiga will retain the same diesel and petrol motors. The Ertiga comes with a 1.4 liter K-series petrol engine with 95 BHP and 130 NM of torque on tap, while the diesel motor on the other hand is sourced from Fiat and uses Variable Geometry Turbocharger to produce 90 BHP of power and 200 NM of torque. Both the engine units are mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Maruti is currently able to sell over a cool 5000 units of Ertiga every month despite the tough competition from Honda and Toyota.

Honda Freed - Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova beater. Possible launch in 2014

Big things are predicted from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Maruti’s first serious attempt at the utility market after the disaster of the Versa, the Ertiga is pitched as a Life Utility vehicle (LUV). It is aimed at the Toyota Innova and even though its too early to make a statement on how the Ertiga would fair in the market, initial response suggest it will be another best seller from Maruti. To counter the Ertiga and the soon to be launched EcoSport, the baby SUV from Ford, Honda could consider bringing in their Freed MPV.

This Mini MPV has been in production since 2008 and like the Ertiga which is based on the Ritz, the Freed is based on the Jazz platform. The MPV was recently unveiled at the Bangkok Motor Show and is available in a seven-seat version with captain’s seats in the second row, an eight-seat version and also a five-seat version. The eight seater version uses a 60:40-split tumble seat in the second row and the five-passenger variant seats the occupants in two rows. Powering the Freed is a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine which produces 118PS and 148Nm of torque. The engine is matched to either a 5 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic CVT gearbox. The motor is high revving, refined and efficient.

Maruti-Suzuki launches limited edition Swift Alpha. Ertiga receives a great response

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been quite a success since it was launched last year. The Swift has been amongst the top five selling cars for a few months now and at times second only to the Alto in terms of sales. It’s however been the diesel engine that has been the more popular choice for most and sales of the petrol model have been relatively slow. Maruti has now launched a special limited-edition model of the Swift Petrol called the Swift Alpha.

The Swift Alpha is available only in the VXi variant and the Swift Alpha gets cosmetic upgrades like Bluetooth-equipped audio system with speakers, door-sill guards, a body-coloured rear spoiler, mud-flaps, seat-covers and even designer floormats and door visors. Maruti claims that if the customers opt to get these upgrades from the aftermarket they would have to spend extra Rs 8000. To really woo the customers, Maruti would not be charging them for the accessories.

Maruti Suzuki has also received an excellent response to the Ertiga LPV (life utility vehicle) and the all new seven-seater has bagged about 10000 bookings within the first five days of its launch. The Ertiga the manufacturer hopes will be a game changer and is available with a new 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine and also a 1.3-litre multijet diesel. Maruti hopes to grab 50 percent share in the Indian market with the Ertiga as it currently holds around 40 percent share in the Indian market.

The manufacturer will also be exporting the Ertiga to Indonesia as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit and to keep up with the demand Maruti has increased production from 12000 units to 20000 units per month.

The Ertiga is based on the Ritz platform and from the front the MPV looks distinctively Suzuki. The swept back headlights are similar to those found on Swift and the creases on the bonnet have a resemblance to the Ritz. The rear quarter glass gives the MPV a distinctive look and from the rear the MPV looks more like a hatch. While the Ertiga is not a gorgeous automobile, it is good looking nonetheless.

The Ertiga was first shown in India and internationally at the New Delhi Auto Expo in January of this year and the manufacturer claims that the Ertiga has been designed and manufactured "specifically for India".

In an interview to Times of India, Mayank Pareek, Managing Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki, said, "Ertiga is a global product from Suzuki, but it is designed primarily for India, though it will be sold in other ASEAN countries later.” "Indian families, their members and their lifestyle as also their physical built have been key factors in the final design of the Ertiga for India," he added.

Built on the Swift platform, the Ertiga will use a K-series 1.4-litre VVT engine which will make its debut on the LUV. There will also be the tried and tested 1.3-litre CRDi diesel engine. Maruti Suzuki engineers started to work on the Ertiga back in 2008 and almost 30 Indian engineers stayed at Suzuki’s Hamamatsu headquarters in Japan while working on the LUV.
