Now that we are stepping into the third month of this New Year, we are happy to inform you that we all will witness plenty of new cars launching in the next month as well.
The two biggest launches, however, will come from the stable of our homegrown auto manufacturer Maruti and the renowned Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini. So we can assure things are going to heat up in the next month.
So without any further due let us provide you all with the list of new car launches that will take place in the month of March 2017 in India:-
The car is launching on 3rd March 2017
Maruti is all set to launch the sportier variant of their Baleno hatchback which they launched back in 2015. The Baleno like you all are already aware of is the most expensive hatchback from Maruti’s stable on offer in India and sits above the Swift.
The Baleno hatchback offered with the 1.2 Litre petrol and the 1.3 Litre diesel unit which also powers the Swift hatchback. It competes directly with the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto. The Baleno RS, on the other hand, was teased at the 2016 Auto Expo and is slightly a sportier variant of the hatchback, powered by 1.0 Litre, three cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine.
The 1.0 Litre petrol unit will also make its Indian debut with the Baleno RS; this is the same unit which powers the UK spec Baleno. However, the same engine is expected to deliver around 101 Hp of peak power at 5500 rpm and 150 Nm of peak torque at 1700-4500 rpm. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while according to some reports there will also be a 6-speed auto unit on offer too.
As far as the changes the Baleno RS will get subtle updates to its exterior as well as interior to make it appear sportier than the standard Baleno. The front profile will get a restyled front and rear bumper. While towards the side profile will get a slightly bigger 16-inch alloy wheels. The Baleno RS might also receive dual tone exterior colour option. Expect the interior to appear almost identical to the standard Baleno. However, some reports on the internet suggest that the car might get a flat-bottomed steering wheel and RS logo on the seat upholstery.
The RS variant will be costlier than the standard Baleno hatch and will sport a new 1.0 Litre petrol engine
The Baleno hatchback surely gathered lots of appreciation since its launched last year officially here in India. Now after almost a year, Maruti has planned to introduce a sportier variant of the same hatchback. Called the Baleno RS, this car made its first official appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi. Maruti has confirmed that they will be launching the Baleno RS in India on 3rd March 2017.
Recently Gaadiwaadi was able to click some undisguised images of the sportier Baleno variant of the hatchback which gives us an idea about the things which you can expect from this upcoming hatchback variant.
Before we get into anything else, let us remind you that the Baleno RS will be positioned on top of their existing hatchback and will only sell through the Nexa dealerships. That said, the car will get a new 998 cc Boosterjet turbocharged three-cylinder direct-injection engine, although the engine is smaller than the 1.2 Litre unit which powers the standard hatchback it makes more power than the 1.2 Litre unit. The new 1.0 Litre Ecobooost unit produces about 101 Hp of peak power at around 5500 rpm and 150 NM of torque in between 1,700 and 4,500 rpm. The engine will paired to a five-speed manual unit.
Talk about styling, and the new Baleno RS gets few exterior updates which come in the form of a new body kit which will include sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts, chrome garnishes towards the front grille and perhaps slightly beefier tires.
Makes 100 Hp Of Peak Power
After Maruti launched the Ignis Crossover in India recently it is time for them to introduce the sportier variant of the Baleno hatchback. Called the Baleno RS, this variant of the hatchback was first previewed in its concept form at the 2016 Auto expo and now exactly after a year it looks as if Maruti is all set to introduce this in India.
Recently a Team-BHP member posted a leaked specification table of the upcoming hatchback which will be positioned above the standard Baleno. The specification table provides lot of new details about the car.
The Baleno RS which is expected to be launched in the month of February in India will be powered by 1.0L Boosterjet (turbo) petrol engine. This engine which will also debut in India with this car is expected to deliver around 100 hp (75kW) of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque in between 1,700 rpm – 4,500 rpm, compared to 83 Bhp and 115 Nm of torque produced by the 1.2 Litre petrol unit on the standard hatchback. The engine will be paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox while there are rumours that a 6 speed automatic transmission will also be on offer during its launch.
Expect the Baleno RS 1.0 Litre Boosterjet unit to actually be slightly more fuel efficient than the 1.2 Litre unit as well.
Some other interesting feature that the Baleno RS might include is 15 inch alloy wheels while the top end variant will feature 16 inch wheels. For the safety of the passengers the hatchback should also be equipped with disc brakes on all the four wheels.
Three completely different cars from three different auto manufacturer

The hot hatchback will be positioned above the standard Baleno hatchback and will be priced slightly higher
Maruti showcased the Baleno RS for the first time at the 2016 Auto expo; this is Maruti’s version of the hot hatchback. According to the recent reports Maruti is all set to introduce the sportier variant of the Baleno in India towards the month of February 2017 and it will be the fourth car which will be sold via their Nexa outlets (the other three being the standard Baleno hatch, the SX4 Cross and the soon to be launched Ignis Crossover).
The Baleno RS was caught testing on Indian road couple of times and although the car was covered in camouflage but we can assure it will get some cosmetic updates both on its exterior as well as interior to make it appear different from the standard Baleno.
Now we already have some hot hatchbacks in the Indian market while some are priced within 10 Lakh rupees other are priced well above 20 Lakh rupees. As far as the Baleno RS is concerned expect it to be priced at a premium over the standard Baleno hatchback and in par with the Fiat Punto Evo Abarth and Volkswagen Polo GT.
The new models will make it towards the end of this year
We all seriously expected that Maruti will be launching the Ignis Crossover in the month of August 2016 in India whereas the hotter variant of the Baleno hatchback will be launching here towards the festive season. But according to the recent reports Maruti has actually postponed the launch of the Ignis Crossover as well as the Baleno RS variant by few more months.
The Ignis will now most probably launch here in the month of October or November 2016 whereas the much awaited Baleno RS hatchback will only make it to the Indian market towards the early 2017. Both these cars will be produced at the automakers Maneswar plant where the Baleno hatchback is also currently being produced.
Now the reason for this delay is that the carmaker is actually facing a large backorder for both their newly introduced products including the Baleno as well as the Vitara Brezza compact SUV which is in high demand. The waiting period of both the hatchback and the compact SUV now ranges in between 6-9 months. The demand for the top end variants of the Vitara Brezza is definitely the highest.
So for now Maruti has decided not to actually add another model to their lineup and first clear the backlog of their existing products. The carmaker actually also has increased the production capacity of the Vitara Brezza from 8000 units to 10, 000 units while the Baleno production too has been increased from 8000 to 12, 000 units.
Both the popular cars and some other models will now cost you more
Maruti Suzuki has been dominating the Indian market recently with two of their most recent launches the Baleno hatchback and the compact SUV Vitara Brezza. The recent reports states that Maruti has decided to hike the prices of these products by almost INR. 10, 000 to 20, 000 respectively. The increase in prices was effective since 1st August 2016 onward.
This will actually be the first price hike for the compact SUV Vitara Brezza since its launch while the third price hikes for the hatchback Baleno since its launch last year. Maruti also witnessed highest ever sales growth in the month of July 2016 and all the credit goes to the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno hatchback. Post the price hike the Vitara Brezza is now priced in between INR. 7.19 lakh - 9.88 lakhs instead of INR.6.99 lakh – 9.68 lakh which by the way was the original price during the time of its launch. On the other hand the Baleno hatchback prices after the price hike ranges in between INR. 5.25 lakh - Rs 8.36 lakh instead of INR. 5.15 - 8.33 lakh which was the revised price in March after the decision taken by the Indian Government during the time of union budget in 2016.
Besides these two models Maruti also has hiked the prices of some select models as well by INR. 1500-5000 (All prices ex showroom Delhi). Now their entry level offering Maruti Alto800 price starts from INR. 2.45 Lakhs (ex showroom Delhi). While their top end offering is the S-Cross which is priced around INR. 12.03 Lakhs (ex showroom Delhi).
After the storm comes the lull and this holds true for the automotive industry too. After the sales storm of the festive season, the sales of cars are coming back to normal. The sales in February though are not actually normal, as most of the automakers have experienced sharp decline over the previous year’s numbers.
It seems that whatever the market situation may be it will not have any effect on who occupies the top spot. Month after month it has been the same story and February is not any different with Maruti Alto still numero uno with 21,286 units sold. But the bestseller too has felt the heat with sales dropping 17% over the 2015 figure. The next three slots are also occupied by the country’s largest automaker. The Dzire compact sedan has swapped places with its hatchback sibling, the Swift, for second place. The sedan has managed 17,410 units while bucking the trend and managing a 2% growth. The popular Swift hatchback dropped one place while registering a huge slide of 21% but still selling 15,475 units; this fall can be linked to increased competition and even cannibalization from its stablemate, the Baleno.
The original tallboy – Wagon R– held on to its fourth position from last year with a slight 1% decrease in sales. The other two entries from Maruti in the list are the new Baleno premium hatchback and the Ciaz mid-size sedan; they managed to shift 6,888 and 5,162 units respectively. Hyundai confirmed its popularity after Maruti by putting three cars in the top 10 list.
The countdown has begun. We are about to leave 2015 and start our journey in the year 2016. Like every year, 2015 too brought us some stunning cars. We observed some completely new models, some new generation models and several facelift cars launched in our country. In a few months we are about to see some spectacular car launches in the country. In the meantime, when we are counting down the last hours of the 2015, let’s take a look back at the hottest car launches of 2015.
In the year 2015, we have seen some gorgeous German luxury utility and sports models like new Audi Q7, BMW I8, and Mercedes Benz AMG GT made entry into Indian automobile market, while Swedish automaker Volvo has launched XC90, which can be called an epitome of luxury and undoubtedly one of the safest cars of the world at present. American automaker Ford has launched a rejuvenated Ford Figo, which looks absolutely stylish. Hyundai launched a stylish SUV Creta, which became an immense hit among Indians. Mahindra, undoubtedly the most popular SUV maker of the country has been at the losing end of the battle because of steep competition from other automakers. They tried to bring back their good luck by launching TUV300, a rugged looking revolutionary SUV inspired by a battle tank design. In the hatchback segment the most profound entry was in form of Renault Kwid. So many things in so little budget; imagination is possible now with Kwid.
Well, the list goes on and on. We choose 10 hottest cars among so many, which were launched in the year 2015. Here are those hottest 10s presented in an alphabetic manner. Check out.
Maruti launched their premium hatchback offering Baleno during the festive season here in India and it also went on to become one of the favored hatchbacks. The sources reveals that the new hatchback even received around 40, 000 bookings so far.
Currently the car is available with both petrol and diesel engines, while the petrol variant is taken care by the 1.2 Litre K12 engine which is capable of producing about 83 Bhp of peak power and 115 nm of torque on the other hand the diesel variant uses the 1.3 Liter Fiat sourced Multijet unit which is good for around 74 Bhp of peak power and 190 Nm of torque. But recently Autocar India revealed that Maruti might also offer the more powerful variant of the 1.3 liter unit which is capable of producing an impressive 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 NM of torque; this is also the same engine which also powers the Ciaz diesel sedan.
Currently both the diesel and petrol variant of the Baleno hatchback is offered with a 5 speed manual transmission while the CVT automatic gearbox is offered with the petrol variant only.
The Baleno hatchback takes on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz and if Maruti actually offers this diesel unit with the top spec Baleno variant it will definitely give the hatchback some more edge over its rivals for sure.
In the context of Maruti Suzuki Baleno crash event last week Maruti Suzuki has decided to offer dual airbags and ABS to all the variants of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire. Although these safety features are available as an option only. Recently after the horrifically crumpled image of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Baleno made headlines in national media, Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s structural integrity faced questions. We assume this is the reason Maruti Suzuki took steps to equip the Swift and Dzire with such safety features.
Incidentally Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire are two most sold and very popular cars in India. The Indo-Japanese auto manufacturer has sold more than 17000 units of Swift and Dzire in the fiscal year 2014-2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, has said, “Swift and DZire are two of the most popular cars in India. Both have played an instrumental role in shaping the Indian automobile industry. The cars are known for contemporary styling, superior comfort, convenience features and performance. By offering driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants of Swift and DZire, we want to further strengthen their popularity among customers.”
As you all know, Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA dealership is all about premium. The showroom itself comes as premium dealership and it showcases two premium cars from Maruti Suzuki, which are Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and recently launched Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
‘The Bold Side of NEXA’ TVC went on air from 15th October, 2015, which also showcase the new Baleno premium hatchback. The new TVC definitely looks quite energetic, and it will surely attract several customers toward the NEXA showrooms. The advertisement clearly emphasize on the premium quality and sophistication of this new range of dealerships as well as the Baleno also. Eventually, these NEXA showrooms emphasizes on giving customers a technologically advanced showroom experience. The TVC also shows, what actually can be a new age automobile showroom. Incidentally, Maruti Suzuki NEXA showrooms was inaugurated first on 23rd July this year, and this set of new dealerships were built precisely to cater the premium class with premium segment cars.
Maruti Suzuki Swift has become one of the most popular cars of all time in Indian automobile market. This is one such car which has won many hearts in India, as well as in international market too. In India, compact hatchbacks are the most selling vehicle as the people at large of this country are very much conscious about the prices. Although premium hatchbacks are not that much popular in the country, but Maruti Suzuki Swift tells a different tale.
The new generation of Indian customers is looking for new ideas, new design, premium feel, comfort while buying cars. The Japanese car maker Honda launched Jazz a few days ago in India, which is a premium hatchback. Now walking on the same route Maruti Suzuki has launched Baleno, which is their answer against the Jazz and another premium segment hatchback of the country Hyundai Elite i20.
Now the talk of the town is; whether Baleno is going to eat the market share of the Swift. Both are from the same house, and evidently Baleno comes with new design, new style statement and of course better appeal. On the other hand the Maruti Suzuki Swift has become quite ageing and old. Therefore, the Baleno is certainly expected to get better interest among customers than the Swift. How? Here, we tried to bring you an insight.
This was definitely the most awaited car of the year 2015. From Concept to reality we all were a part of the evolution process of this premium hatchback offering from Suzuki and now it is launched here finally. That’s right! Maruti has introduced their premium hatchback Baleno in India with prices starting at INR. 4.99 Lakhs (ex showroom Delhi).
The Baleno has been offered in four variants which include Sigma (base variant), Delta, Zeta and the top-spec Alpha. While the base petrol variant has been priced at 4.99 Lakhs (ex showroom Delhi), the base diesel variant has been priced at INR. 6.16 lakh(ex showroom, Delhi). Besides the standard manual gearbox Maruti has also offered a CVT gearbox along with the Baleno which is available with the petrol Delta variant only.
The car definitely looks like a grown up Swift hatch but the modern touches makes it look stylish while the addition of some neat details has made it even more premium. The front profile of the hatch gets a new V-Shaped grille while the headlamp design looks almost identical to the ones you find on the Swift; however Maruti has offered projector units along with integrated daytime running lamps on the top spec trims. The other goodies on offer towards the exterior of the top spec Baleno includes a 16 inch alloy wheels while the standard car customers will have to keep themselves satisfied with 15 inch wheels.
Inside the Baleno things really looks familiar, you can instantly recognize the typical steering wheel that you find in other Maruti products while the switches too haven’t changed much either. Though what is new is the new styling of the dashboard and centre console finished in V shape. The top spec variants gets Apple CarPlay as well which is definitely segment first, the Baleno further also gets navigation and voice command system as well. Comparatively the cabin is much more spacious as well as comfortable than the Swift which is actually a good thing.
