The 2017 model will be based on the same generation hatchback which is sold currently in the Indian market and not exactly the new generation Suzuki Wagon-R whose images recently leaked online on the Japanese social media channels.
The biggest change however will come in the form of the Stingray variant now being merged with the top end trim. That’s right Maruti has decided to eliminate the Stingray nameplate and add it with the current lineup and trims. Maruti Suzuki WagonR is definitely one of the most sold compact hatchbacks of India. The small family car is immensely popular among Indian families. Now Maruti Suzuki has decided to offer an Auto Gear Shift technology powered WagonR, which will save the customers from hassle between pedals and constant gear lever shifting in bumper to bumper traffic. This technology will also be offered in the Stingray, which is a restyled version of the WagonR. The auto gear shift transmission system will be available in VXi variants of both the models.
Not only this. The driver and co driver airbags and Anti lock Braking System (ABS) will also be offered as an option across all the variants, including the base variants of WagonR and Stingray. First available in the Maruti Suzuki Celerio the AGT has became immensely popular among Indian people. Just because this technology, Maruti Suzuki Celerio has became one of the most popular cars of all time in India. This technology not only saves the driver’s energy by shifting gears automatically, but also come fuel efficient, unlike the fuel consuming fully automatic transmission. The Alto K10 also comes equipped with this AGT technology. It is also known as Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), and it comes equipped with an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations. The shifting time is also shortened as compared to conventional automatic transmissions.
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR comes powered by 1 litre K-next engine, and the new generation transmission with optimized ECU calibration helps WagonR and Stingray deliver high fuel efficiency. The AGS variants of both these models offer a mileage of 20.51 kmpl, same as the manual transmission.
When this actually became news we reported that Maruti Suzuki will be introducing their much talked and hyped and equally popular AMT Transmission in their one of the highest selling and most favored hatchback Wagon-R (Read the news here).
Now recently Gaadiwaadi spotted the Wagon-R and the Stingray hatchback equipped with AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) at a dealership stockyard. What is even more surprising is also the fact that they are arriving at the dealerships sooner than we all would have expected. The cars caught in these spy images are of WagonR and to prove the fact that they are equipped with AMT Maruti Suzuki has actually used the badges towards the rear bootlid of the car.
It is quite clear that the WagonR will be equipped with AMT and it will go on sale during this Diwali. However the interesting part is also the fact that not only will the WagonR get the AMT transmission but even the Stingray which is a more premium variant of the WagonR hatchback and comes with more features will even get the AMT gearbox as well.
Now both the Stingray and WagonR is powered by the same 998cc K10B petrol unit which is capable of producing about 68 Ps of peak power. The AMT which is used by Maruti will be exported and supplied by Magneti Marelli.
As far as the pricing is concerned expect the AMT equipped hatchback to be priced almost 30.000 to 35,000 rupees more than the standard manual transmission equipped hatchbacks. The affordable AMT gearbox eliminates the usage of clutch making the car easily drivable inside the city while also not taking a toll on its fuel efficiency as well. The reports on the internet also suggest that the AMT transmission will be made available only with the VXi variant.
Having been in the Indian automobile market since 1999, Maruti Suzuki WagonR has always been one of the most popular 4 seater hatchback in the economy segment. Maruti Suzuki already sold more than 15 lakh WagonR. The easy handling, low cost, smooth commuting make this car the choice of Indian budget car owners. But as the Indian automobile market is growing more and more competitive, Maruti Suzuki is coming up with new ideas to improve their vehicles.
To attract the potential customers Maruti Suzuki has recently launched a new limited edition WagonR, which is packed with various new features, as well as sporting new stylish look. This new WagonR is called as Avance. The word Avance is a French word which stands for Advance. We believe Maruti Suzuki gave their popular car this name, as they want it to go forward, competing its rivals. This launch is also targeting to boost up the sales during the upcoming festive season. Maruti Suzuki took a similar move earlier by launching WagonR Pro in 2012.

Renault unveiled their global small car in May 2015 in India and we all know by now that it will be called the KWID. Renault decided to give KWID, 98 percent localization which will also help the French auto manufacturer to price it aggressively here. Reports say that Renault’s global small car should be priced in between 3 to 4 Lakhs Rupees which means that it will be positioned in the entry level hatchback segment of the Country.
So, what is the entry level hatchback segment’s present scenario in our Country?
Although, the entry level hatchback segment of the country is actually not flooded with plenty of cars but India is a tough market and the customers are even tougher to satisfy and convinence compared to some other markets of the world. The potential rivals of the Renault KWID in India will definitively be the Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon, then offcourse there is the Maruti WagonR, which is perhaps the most popular choice amongst the customers for its tried and tested engine, less maintenence, comfort level and big car feel inside the cabin, but if we take a look at the pricing point then this hatchback definitely costs a tad bit higher than the other three.
So that leaves us with two potential rivals which include the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon.

There is some really good news for all those who are not finding enough options while planning to get their hands on a new hatchback which comes with an AMT Transmission for stress free driving in city traffic.
Recently GaadiWaadi caught the Maruti Wagon R and the Stingray being tested on Indian roads equipped with an AMT Transmission (take a closer look at the images).
To add even more joy earlier it was reported that the more premium Stingray variant of the Wagon R hatch will only get the AMT gearbox where as the standard hatch will only come with the 5 speed manual transmission but these spy images clearly shows that both the Wagon R LXi variant as well as the Stingray variants were equipped with the AMT Transmission.
Maruti gets about 5500 AMT Transmission Kits from Magnetti Marelli which is used in their hatches like the Celerio and the Alto K10 but if they are planning to launch both the newly spied hatches with AMT transmission then definitely Maruti also has planned to increase the supply of this kit from the manufacturers to meet the demands of their products. The AMT transmission will be equipped with the 1.0 Litre three cylinder K series petrol unit which powers the Wagon R, this engine is popular for its fuel efficiency figures and produces about 68 Ps of peak power and 90 NM of torque.
Maruti Wagon R was recently in the news for selling over 15 Lakh units over a span of 14 years and now it’s already again in the news and reports say that Maruti will be launching a Crossover variant of the hatch in India soon.
Now the car which was spotted being tested on Indian roads looked like the same vehicle which was already showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo held in New Delhi. It was called the Xrest and this variant came with Black plastic cladding surrounding the lower part of the vehicle. The Wagon R Xrest which was spotted on the road also comes with the same Black Plastic cladding surrounding the vehicle but not towards the rear because the rear still sports the same bumpers that you find in the standard Wagon R, beside the plastic cladding it also gets smoked projector headlamps and also taillamps, while the lower lip too painted in Silver to give an aggressive feel. While from the spy images we can clearly see that the interior has also received few of the Xrest flavors and thus gets Beige and duel tone interior.
When it comes to its engines Maruti continues to power the Wagon R Xrest with the same K10 B engine which is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox produces about 67 bhp of peak power and 90 Nm of torque. Now the car spotted looks almost like a production ready variant but Maruti would certainly make some further changes before launching the final production version on road.
Expect the Maruti Wagon R Xrest to be priced much lower than the other Cross variants available in the market today like the Volkswagen Cross Polo or the Toyota Etios Cross.
Maruti’s blue eyed boy started its journey back in the year 2000 and since then it became one of the trusted cars for many small Indian families and just yesterday Maruti announced that their popular hatchback Wagon R crossed the 15 Lakh cumulative sales mark and they have actually been able to reach the impressive sales mark in 14 years.
Maruti sold around 156,300 units of Wagon R in 2013-14 while in the year 2014 alone the sales of the Wagon R hatch has already exceeded 93,000 units. The Wagon R is popular amongst the customers because of its spacious interior and trusted 1.0 Litre K series petrol engine which puts up 67 bhp of peak power and 90 Nm of torque. Wagon R beside the petrol engine option is also available with alternative fuel such LPG (introduced in 2006-07) and CNG fuel option (introduced in 2010-11).
Mr Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing) said that, “Launched in 2000, Wagon R has been amongst India’s top 5 best-selling brands. With its space, features and comfort, Wagon R has been the choice of the “Smart customer” and consistently remained among India’s most loved car brands.”
Maruti also introduced a top end premium model Stingray which came with some interesting new features such as driver info display, airbags, ABS, projector headlamps which by the way was first introduced in this segment, black upholstery and lastly stylish alloy wheels but it didn’t impressed the people much and thus resulted in poor sales figures. However Maruti is planning to introduce a Wagon R 7 seater MPV in the near future which will surely pull some crowd towards it for sure.
Celerio was the first model from Maruti to get the privileges of getting equipped with AMT Transmission in India which actually was also the USP of the hatch, the second car that Maruti decided to equip the Automatic gearbox was the recently launched Alto K10 which also made it the cheapest car to come with an automatic gearbox. Recently the report says that Maruti is also planning to equip their popular and trusted product Wagon R too with the AMT transmission and just like the other two variants Maruti too is actually planning to plant the Automatic gearbox on the more premium segment of the Wagon R hatch which actually means that Maruti will mostly equip the Wagon R Stingray with the AMT transmission rather than just coupling the top end variant of the Wagon R with the Automatic transmission.
The Wagon R has been here in the market for a long time now and is one of the most popular choices amongst the customers of this segment because of its trusted 1.0 Litre K10 fuel efficient trusted Petrol engine, spacious interiors and its impressive pricing. However the Stingray which made its debut in the year 2013 in India was not able to score in terms of sales. The Stingray edition was priced above the top end variant and looks slightly different than the standard Wagon R because it comes with added projector headlamp units, stylish alloy wheels and that is about it because the interiors and mechanically the Stingray is identical to the Wagon R. However Maruti has actually planned to couple the 1.0 Litre K10 Petrol unit to a five-speed automated manual gearbox which is the same gearbox used in the Celerio and the Alto K10 presently.
This festive season definitely is one important year of the time when both the consumers and the auto manufacturers look forward to each other in order to earn some benefits. The Auto Manufacturers too tries to make the usual things little more interesting by providing heavy discounts and offers on their various products or even jazz up some of their existing products in order to get some attention.
Maruti Suzuki too recently introduced a limited edition of their existing hatch WagonR which is quite popular small car amongst the Indian families who lives mostly in Cities because of its impressive amount of space and tall boy looks and lastly its fuel efficient engine. Maruti has christened this limited edition hatch WagonR Krest and it comes equipped with 10 exclusive features which are definitely not available with the standard car.
The 10 exclusive features include a 2 Din Audio System with Bluetooth, Keyless Central Locking, Assistive Reverse parking sensor, an elegant seat covers, steering cover and carpet floor mats on the inside while on the outside it gets stylish wheel cover, Limited Edition body Graphics, durable mud flaps and lastly and additional attractive front grille. There has been no change on the powertrain and thus it is still powered by a 1.0 Liter K Series Petrol engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox which produces about 68 ps of peak power and 90 Nm of torque.
You can get your hands on this Limited Edition WagonR Krest and all its features worth Rs. 32,500 by paying an additional cost of Rs.22, 500 only.
