Maruti had already made quite a name for themselves when they introduced the first generation Dzire back in 2008 and now with the new generation Dzire they surely expecting bigger sales figures. What is surprising is also the fact that Maruti has even dropped the Swift nameplate from the car to give the compact sedan its own identity.
The best thing is that the new generation Dzire will be based on a whole new platform which has helped in reducing the overall weight of the car.The only bad news is that The Dzire will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre VVT, while the diesel is the 1.3 DDiS, we also do not expect the numbers to be a whole lot different than the existing car.

The first and foremost thing we would like to mentioned here before going into any other details is the new generation compact Sedan based on an entirely new Heartect platform which also underpins the Baleno as well as the Ignis. This new platform has helped the car lose some weight and as a result the fully loaded Diesel variant tips weight below 1000 Kilograms.
Let’s talk about styling, and instantly you will realize that the new Dzire shares its front face with the new generation Swift which has not been launched yet. The redesigned headlamps look sharp and are actually slightly smaller than its predecessor. The top end trim gets projector headlight setup. The headlight unit also gets integrated LED detailing inside as standard the high-end trim, on the other hand, gets LED DRL’s as standard. There is no doubt that the new generation Dzire looks much better in the flesh because of its proportionate boot. The rear boot although does not look attractive but the overall modern styling now actually looks better and goes well with the overall car. The rear taillamps get LED units which come as standard across the range. The base and mid variants gts steel wheels the top end trims gets an entirely new set of alloy wheels.
The new Dzire looks identical to the new generation Swift till the B-Pillar and Maruti has done a brilliant job of reworking the rear profile to make it match with the front profile of the sedan.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel is also new; the new designed twin pod instrument cluster gets a digital screen in between them which provides additional information. The lower trim gets an audio system with CD, USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity the top end trim, on the other hand, gets SmartPlay Touchscreen infotainment system which also comes with Apple Car play system. The dashboard also gets wooden inserts as well which goes well with the overall interior. For the first time, the interior gets a rear AC vents as well while the lower trims get manual AC the top end trims gets an automatic climate control. The back seat has now also been redesigned and it gets a rear armrest as well. The Dzire now provides more boot space towards the rear compared to its predecessor.
The Maruti Dzire gets two engine options under its hood which includes diesel and petrol, however; these are the same engines which also used to power its predecessor. The petrol variant gets the same 1.2 Litre K-series unit which produces about 61 KW of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets the 1.3-litre four-cylinder DDiS turbodiesel engine which produces about 55 kW of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while there is also an option AGS transmission on offer as well with both petrol and diesel engine options.
Although there have been no significant changes when it comes to the power output figures but the lightweight platform has helped the new Dzire to shed a lot of its additional weight which has assisted in giving the fuel efficiency a boost. The petrol engine now promises to return a claimed mileage figures of 22 km to a liter of the petrol while the diesel variant promises to return around 28.48 km/l making it the most fuel efficient diesel car of India.

The Hyundai Xcent is the biggest competitor of the Swift Dzire compact sedan for sure. Just like the Swift Dzire Hyundai too is working on the facelift variant of the Xcent as well. The facelift Xcent sedan will most probably get some cosmetic updates while under the hood it will be powered by the same 1.2-liter kappa petrol develops 83 PS of peak power at 6000 rpm. Torque on the other hand is rated at 114 Nm which available at 4000 rpm. The diesel variant on the other hand is powered by the 1.1-liter U2 second generation CRDi. This power house generates 71 PS and is good for 160 Nm of torque. Peak torque is available across a wide rev range, right from 1500 rpm to 2750 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard while the petrol can be had with a 4-speed automatic.
The new generation Dzire surely looks modern and loaded. The exterior styling has taken its inspiration from the new Swift and thus has increased its sporty appeal. The interiors also get plenty of new features like a rear AC vents, new 7.0 Inch touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control which has given the new sedan some upmarket feel. Although there has been no change in the drivetrain department, the lightweight platform means that car now has better performance besides being more fuel efficient. Lastly, the addition of AGS also means that the both the diesel and petrol variant drivers can now enjoy clutchless driving in bumper to bumper city traffic.
