2015 Maruti-Suzuki Swift Dzire

The compact sedan segment is flourishing fast in India and Maruti Suzuki was one of the first auto manufacturers who launched their product in this segment and it was called the Swift Dzire which was built exclusively on their popular Swift hatchback platform. This car was able to steal many Indian hearts and is counted as one of the top players of its segment although it faces some tough competition from other equally worthy cars. Recently we have seen plenty of other manufacturer too stepped in the market with their brand new products and that is perhaps the reason why one of the most experience auto manufacturers of the Country decided to give their compact sedan a new lease of life and this is the same reason why Maruti launched the facelift Swift Dzire in the Indian market.

The facelift Dzire surely brings with it an array of changes both on its exterior as well as interior while it also gets some mechanical tweaks under its hood to keep things up to date. Although it still remains to be powered by the same 1.2 litre K series petrol engine and a 1.3 litre DDIS diesel engine, the diesel engine has received some tweaks and it now manages to deliver 26.59 Km to a litre which also helps it to win the crown of being India’s most fuel efficient car.

EXTERIOR

"The facelift Dzire surely looks better than it’s the pre-facelift variant and all the credit goes to the newly designed single slat front grille"

Honestly! The Swift Dzire was never considered a good looking or well proportioned car mostly because of its odd rear profile styling but people loved it because it comes out from the stable of one of the most trusted brands of all time. The facelift Dzire surely looks better than it’s the pre-facelift variant and all the credit goes to the newly designed single slat front grille which gets lot of chrome on it while the front bumper also has been refreshed and finished in body color. While the fog lamps has been finished in Bezel and completed with chrome accents. The Dzire also gets new set of alloy wheels which further up’s the styling quotient. While towards the rear there are absolutely n o changes at all.

Overall the facelift Swift Dzire looks identical to the car it replaces but beside the above mentioned cosmetic upgrades there are absolutely no changes made to the exterior of this compact sedan.

DIMENSION

Length 3995 mm
Width 1695 mm
Height 1555 mm
Wheel base 2430 mm

INTERIOR

The interior of this facelift sedan too remains almost the same beside few Knicks and knacks that we already have seen on the new Swift hatchback afterall this Dzire is the same Swift hatchback with an additional boot. However we need to mention here that the Dzire too gets some new updates which come in the form of a new Push Start button, an electrically adjustable folding rear mirror, parking sensors and updated infotainments system with Bluetooth and also rear power socket. Surely the Dzire interiors are comfortable and get many convenient features as well however some tall people may complain about the limited leg room at the rear seat.

DRIVETRAIN

Disappointingly the Dzire still carries the same old powertrain under the hood even in this facelift variant they launched recently. The petrol variant is powered by the 1.2 Litre K Series Petrol engine which produces about 84.3 Ps of peak power at 6000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. While the diesel variant gets the 1.3 litre DDIS unit which produces about 75 Ps of peak power at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The good thing however is the fact that the diesel unit of the compact sedan now has been reworked and it now returns an amazing 26.59 Km to a litre of fuel which is an improvement of about 13 % while the petrol unit comes with an improved efficiency of 9 percent and it now returns a certified fuel efficiency of 20.85 kmpl. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox while there is also an option of a 4 speed automatic gearbox while the diesel variant gets 5 speed manual.

COMPETITION

Honda Amaze

The Honda Amaze surely stays on top of the list when people actually think of getting a compact sedan for themselves or their family. It was launched by Honda back in 2013 and since then it is one popular car of its segment. The Amaze uses a 1.2 Litre petrol unit while the diesel variant is powered by the popular 1.5 Litre unit which produces an impressive amount of power and torque and also returns an impressive fuel efficiency at the same time.

Hyundai Xcent

Hyundai launched the Xcent not so long ago and it proved to be one of the most exciting cars of its segment. Based on the new Grand i10 the Xcent is powered by a 1.2 litre unit while the diesel variant gets the 1.1 Litre motor. The Xcent also a 4 speed automatic gearbox beside the 5 speed manual. Known for its effective overall package the Xcent too is a tough competitor to the Dzire.

CONCLUSION

The Swift Dzire has been one important car Maruti Suzuki India especially for those buyers who wants more space in their car to carry more goods in their boot than an usual hatchback carries. The Swift Dzire besides the odd styling definitely is one worthy compact sedan it has got all the flavors in the right amount which makes it one equally worthy car of its segment. The facelift surely isn’t bringing with it huge changes but it gave the Dzire the much needed updates for sure.

Maruti-Suzuki offers optional dual airbags and ABS with Swift and Dzire

It looks like Maruti is all set to launch the facelift Dzire compact sedan in India. Only recently they have launched the facelift Swift hatch in the market which although has not received any major change on its exterior but it surely did received few significant updates under its hood and also inside the cabin. You can catch the entire details of the recently launched facelift Swift hatch here .

Now from the spy images we can clearly see that the Dzire too has received some important updates on its exterior which comes in the form of a new bigger and bolder chrome grille at the front and a completely new front bumper with bigger air vents and also some chrome enclosures. Although there has not been any changes made to the large headlamps at the front but it does get some dark tint to actually make it look little different from the available model. Towards the side profile you won’t notice any huge changes either except the new 10 spoke alloy wheels.

We have noticed in case of the Swift hatch that Maruti has loaded the facelift hatch with many features which were previously not available with the model like the keyless access but now that it has been added to the hatch you can also expect that the compact sedan which uses the same hatch platform might also come loaded with all these features. From the spy images it is also quite clear that the soon to be launched facelift Dzire will also be equipped with a Push start button but mostly in the top end variant while other features like a Bluetooth compatible audio system and electronically adjustable ORVM’s will also be available with this compact sedan.

The two upcoming cars that have left quite a buzz in the Indian auto market right now are the MPV from Honda called the Mobilio and the compact sedan Zest from our very own homegrown auto manufacturer Tata Motors. Today we will be talking about the Zest which will be launched soon in the Indian market and all have a very clear idea by now that the Zest is a compact sedan.

Talking about compact sedan the concept was originally started by Tata and quite honestly they dominated the market back then with their compact sedan Indigo which was based on their hatchback Indica platform. Years went by then the Indian largest auto manufacturer Maruti Suzuki launched the Dzire compact sedan which was based on the Swift platform and it became an instant hit in the Indian market gradually Honda also launched the Amaze while Hyundai launched their own version of compact sedan based on the Grand i10 platform called the Xcent.

The advantages of these compact sedans are that they share most of their components with their hatchback counterpart including the platform, engine and even some major cabin parts and accessories and thus building these compact sedans saves lot of money of the particular auto manufacturers. Although these sedans may not provide space or is powerful like the big sedans but does their duty pretty well when it comes to providing a better ride quality and boot space than a hatchback. Those customers who have a little more budget than a hatchback and also wants a better looking car can easily opt for these compact sedans.

Now, Tata Motors did not wanted to take chances with their compact sedans and thus has provided the upcoming Zest with powerful petrol and diesel engines and lots of new features which will definitely leave you spellbound and will force you to think that this is a worthy competitor to the other compact sedans.

Maruti-Suzuki likely to recall Dzire over faulty fuel filler

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is one of the most popular models of the Indian car maker. Thanks to products like these, Maruti has been leading the automotive sector by clocking the most number of sales than any other car manufacturer. That said, issues like worker unrest and recalls to take a toll on the goodwill of the company.

Now, in what could be described as the biggest ever recall issued for a single model in India, Maruti Suzuki could issued a recall notice for almost 1.5 lakh units of the new Swift Dzire. Now, that’s almost the total number of Swift Dzires that roll off the production lines each year.

According to source, cars manufactured in 2013 and 2014 have been detected with defective fuel filler and would need replacement. Also, out of the 1.5 lakh cars that are out there with defective fuel filler, some of them haven’t found a buyer yet and are still languishing at the dealerships.

Maruti Suzuki officials have refused to comment on the report that was published in The Financial Express. However, we could see an official statement being released sometime in the near future. Secondly, the company could instead notify the customers directly and not make it public in any way.

Today we will be comparing two of the best entry level saloons that have attracted a lot of attention in the past and are still continuing the job of wooing the Indian buyers. The two contenders that I am talking about are the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire which has been here in the Indian market for quite some time now and is one of the best sellers in its segment, and the other one is the much anticipated launch of the year 2013 Honda Amaze. The interesting fact about these saloons is that they are available in both Petrol and Diesel variants and they are mostly built on the hatchback platforms. The Same strategy of converting the hatchbacks into entry level sedans were opted by many other Car manufacturing companies in India also like Chevrolet and Toyota.

Today we will be comparing the recently launched Honda Amaze and the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

It is a surprise that only one Maruti Suzuki features in our list of the 10 most efficient diesel sedans in India. Even in the diesel hatchback list only two Maruti Suzuki’s featured. It seems like an improbable situation for India’s largest selling passenger car manufacturer to have only three cars in the 20 cars that we have researched on but that’s the fact. Tata however has been the surprise and have the most efficient diesel sedan and hatch and also the most fuel efficient petrol hatch. There are also three cars which use the same engine (the 1.5dCi is used by the Nissan Sunny, Renault Duster and the Mahindra Verito) which is not a surprise and in the hatchback list 6 cars shared the same engine.

In India we are in love with the traditional three-box sedans. Hatchbacks for most just don’t hold the same value and appeal even though they have excellent dynamics. The bottom line remains that we aspire to own a sedan even when they are based on the same platform as the hatch and offer similar space and the only reason we are ready to pay considerably more is because they have a boot stuck to them. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is one such example. In March this year the Dzire sold over 15,000 units and was the only sedan to be in the top ten sold cars in India for that month. Launched earlier in the year, the Dzire is the only sub-4 meter sedan which comes with an automatic gearbox. The Tata Indigo e-CS being the other sub 4-meter sedan but that doesn’t come in automatic. While the Dzire is basically the Swift with a boot slapped on it, there is no question about the Dzire’s incredible appeal. The Dzire automatic comes only with a petrol engine and is priced at Rs6,66,310 ex-showroom New Delhi.

Despite its success, the first generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire was definitely not an object of affection. Function and practicality was what it offered and that was enough to make the Dzire one of the bestselling sedans in India. Maruti Suzuki sold over 3.3lakh units of the Dzire and once the manufacturer launched the Swift in 2011, the countdown started for the launch of the Dzire. The Dzire for the longest time was one of the most practical cars in our market and going by the interest the sedan generated at the Auto Expo, when the Dzire is launched in February 2012 Maruti dealers would have their hands full will prospective customers queuing up to make bookings. Maruti Suzuki understands the demands of the Indian buyer. We want a car that delivers maximum efficiency, is reliable, low on cost of ownership, doesn’t compromise much on quality and preferably it has a boot. India’s largest selling sedan for the last few years, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is an unintentional but definitely not a reluctant bestseller. Unintentional because the car was never conceived to be sedan and was created by Maruti Suzuki when it recognized the large fan following of the Swift and the obsession of the Indian masses of a car with a boot. The Dzire has been a massive hit and Maruti factories have had to work overtime to keep up to the demand and despite that there has been a waiting period for the Dzire. But now with the launch of the Toyota Etios, the tables threaten to turn. With prices starting from Rs4,94,447, to Rs6,39,770 for the petrol and Rs5,85,712 to Rs7,19.873 for the diesel variant ex-showroom New Delhi, does the Dzire still have it in her to continue attracting buyers?
