2014 Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz

The Baleno and SX4 was Maruti bold step towards getting their hands on the sedan market of the Country but unfortunately both the sedans was not able to leave their mark amongst the crowd as Maruti though it would. So Indias largest auto manufacturer had to remain satisfied with the poor sales figures of their SX4 sedan and concentrate only on the hatchback segment of the Country. Only recently Maruti Suzuki again tried to take a dig towards the sedan segment of the Country and showcased a concept version of a new sedan called the Ciaz at the 2014, Auto Expo in Delhi. We also have showed you some live images of the concept sedan being displayed at the expo.

After just few months Suzuki took the covers off from another almost production ready version of the sedan christened as Alivio at the 2014, Beijing auto show and then what is even more interesting is the fact that few month earlier we have seen couple of camouflaged test mules of the Ciaz sedan on our Indian road which clearly indicated Maruti’s intentions and what they are up to. Now a sedan which has been completely built from scratch from the most popular small car manufacturer of the Country was something to look out for and now when it is out in the open let us just give you all the details of this newly launched premium mid-size sedan Ciaz which will take on the popular Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

MARUTI SUZUKI CIAZ CONCEPT

The Ciaz concept as already mentioned above was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi, It was one aggressive looking sedan with its strong shoulder line and coupe like roofline. Although Maruti did not revealed anything about the sedans drivetrain or its interior at that time but the concept surely brought a fresh new breeze of air to the Maruti Suzuki stands at the expo.

EXTERIOR

" the tail lamps seems to have been inspired from the popular Honda City"

Maruti has tried their best to give this new upcoming sedan of theirs an upmarket look so that Maruti could also enlist their name in the premium auto segment of the Country. They already have two other sedans right now under their interesting product lineup. The first one as we already mentioned above the not so popular SX4 while the second one is not exactly a mid-size sedan but a compact sedan and is built on the same platform as their popular hatch Swift and called the Swift Dzire.

The first thing that will definitely catch your attention is the fact that this car is huge and which is actually good considering the fact that the occupants will never have to complain about the interior space. The front of the car has a small typical Maruti grille with the Suzuki logo in the middle, what is even more interesting is the fact that the Ciaz sports new projector headlamps which will be available with all the trims. The lower front bumper also looks stylish with the presence of air dams and trapezoidal fog lamps. The front bonnet also has some contours lines which looks stylish too.
Towards its side profile there is not much interesting thing to explain or notice except a character line which flows all the way from the front wheel arch all the way towards its rear tail lamps. The only thing that we did not liked about the new Ciaz are its 16 inch alloy design which looks bit boring with plenty of spokes.

The rear profile although has a bit of surprise for everybody because the tail lamps seems to have been inspired from the popular Honda City, while we loved the chrome finish that has been given to the boot of the car, while the rear bumper too looks stylish.

Overall this new mid-size sedan looks interesting as well as practical and the sheer size of this new sedan will definitely attract lot of attention for sure while the clever touches like the projector headlamps and sharp front end are added deliberately to attract attention.

2014 MARUTI CIAZ DIMENSION

Length 4490 mm
Width 1730 mm
Height 1485mm

Ground clearance 170 mm

INTERIOR

Before I start discussing about the interior let me tell you the interior on its first impression looks and feels upmarket with the addition of the duel tone dashboard finished in Beige and Black while the dash also has a wooden finish to it. However some of the switches and buttons are taken from other Maruti products which many consumers won’t like. The top end trims also comes with the steering mounted controls while the steering itself definitely looks attractive.

The new Maruti Ciaz will also be equipped with a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports all type of media files and equipped with AUX, AM/FM, data card support and above all a satellite navigation system last but not the least it also comes with Bluetooth compatibility. There is also climate control, rear view camera for easy parking available with the top end trims. The instrument cluster with all the dials looks pretty impressive too. The cabin also features plenty of leather wrapped accessories including the seats, steering wheel. While the driver and side passenger will get manual seat adjusts and there will be no option of electronically adjustable seats. The rear passengers too will also get plenty of leg and headroom for a comfortable journey and plenty of storage spaces both inside the cabin and also at the boot. The soon to be launched Ciaz will come with 510 liters of boot space which is quite impressive.

The new Ciaz interior like every other Maruti product is practical, spacious and comfortable and also will come equipped with plenty of features. It will also be available in 4 trims both with petrol and diesel variants which include the V(base), V+, Z, Z+.

DRIVETRAIN

The soon to be launched Ciaz sedan will be powered by the 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine which also powers their MPV Ertiga however this engine has been specially tuned for the Ciaz sedan. This petrol engine is capable of producing 91bhp of peak power at 4000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. This newly tuned engine has been mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.

While the diesel variant is powered by a 1.3 liter DDIS Fiat Sourced diesel engine which produces about 89 bhp of peak power at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1750 rpm. Maruti Suzuki will also offer a 4 speed automatic transmission but it will only be available with the petrol variant of this mid-size sedan.

Maruti claimed that the the DDIS diesel engine will return 26.21 kmpl which will also make it Ciaz the most fuel efficient diesel drivetrain of the Country while the Petrol engine will return a fuel efficiency of 20.73 kmpl, the best amongst the sedans of its class.

COMPETITION

Honda City

The Honda City will perhaps be the biggest rival of the upcoming Ciaz because this is the most popular choice of the owners who are planning to get their hands on a premium sedan priced below the 10 lakh rupee mark. Honda recently launched the next generation City with a diesel engine. The 1.5 liter diesel engine produces about 100 ps of peak power and 200 Nm of torque while the 1.5 Liter petrol engine remains mechanically unchanged and produces about 119 ps of peak power and 145 Nm of torque figures. People love the City for its premium looks and quality interiors.

Hyundai Verna

The Hyundai Verna too is one popular model amongst the crowd, those who love the Korean auto manufacturer and their aggressive styling on their products loves to get their hands on the Verna Fludic. The Verna Fludic comes with variety of diesel and petrol engine options but the 1.4-liter CRDi is among the more popular variants of the new Verna Fluidic. This 1396 cc common-rail diesel engine with direct-injection generates 90 PS of peak power and 220 Nm of torque which drives the front wheels. Beside that a more powerful 1.6-liter diesel with a variable geometry turbocharger is also available with the Verna.

Ford Fiesta

This was the most neglected car in the Indian market until now Ford launched the facelift version of the Fiesta sedan recently in the Indian market priced really aggressively. The new sedan received some cosmetic changes on its exterior but it is available only with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel unit which produces about 91 Ps of peak power at 3750 rpm and 204 Nm of peak torque in between 2000-2750 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual transmission.

CONCLUSION

The Maruti Ciaz will set a new benchmark in terms of styling and interior space for sure because this car is longer than the current Honda City and with these interesting new fuel efficient Drivetrain this sedan will surely impress many. The Ciaz will not only attract attention just because of its new features and drivetrain but also for its aggressive and sporty styling and practicality.

Confirmed! Maruti To Sell Ciaz Sedan Through The Nexa Dealerships

Maruti launched the Ciaz sedan back in 2014 after the Ciaz concept was showcased at the Auto Expo the same year. The mid-size sedan quickly became popular amongst the crowd and also earned the crown of being called a worthy competitor to the popular Honda City. Until now Maruti used to sell the Ciaz through their standard Maruti Suzuki dealerships along with their other products, but there were constant rumours that Maruti will perhaps start selling the Ciaz via their Nexa dealerships when they first inaugurated the dealership in India last year.

Currently, Maruti sells a total of 4 cars via their premium dealership Nexa, which includes the SX4 S-Cross, Baleno, Baleno RS and the Ignis Crossover. We have already reported earlier that Maruti perhaps has plans to sell the Ciaz sedan via their Nexa dealerships with a Nexa kind of badge spotted towards the rear profile of the Ciaz sedan.

Now according to the recent reports, it’s been confirmed that Maruti Suzuki’s flagship sedan offering for the Indian market will be sold through the Nexa dealerships soon. It will also be available in 5 trim levels. While the four trim levels include Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants. There will be an additional new trim which will be offered as well in the form of a new S (Sport).

Maruti To Sell Ciaz Sedan Through Nexa Showrooms

According to the latest reports on Team-BHP Maruti will sell the new Ciaz sedan through their premium Nexa Showrooms. Although Maruti haven’t made the official announcement yet but the Ciaz sedan was recently spotted at the Nexa showroom wearing Nexa like badges.

Currently, Maruti’s newly launched Ignis Crossover, Baleno hatchback and the S-Cross Crossover are sold through their premium Nexa showrooms. The CIaz will actually be the fourth product which too will be sold via their premium dealership. Maruti will be launching the Baleno RS performance hatchback soon which will sit on top of their existing Baleno hatch and we pretty sure that it will also be sold via the Nexa showrooms as well.

The car which was photographed at the Nexa showroom gets the Ciaz moniker badge towards the left, while the SHVS sticker positioned towards the right side of the rear. What is missing through is the variant name at the rear of the sedan. All the above hints are leading to the confirmation of the Ciaz sedan will most probably be sold via their Nexa showrooms to give a rich and premium buying experience to the customers.

Maruti also has plans to launch the facelift Ciaz sedan towards the last quarter of 2017.

Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz and Ertiga Score 4 Star Safety Rating in ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

Maruti-Suzuki is the most popular and best selling automotive brand in Indian market. The Ertiga from the Indo Japanese automotive brand is a very popular MPV in Indian market. In the sedan segment the Maruti-Suzuki introduced Ciaz, which was the company’s first take in the luxury segment. Now both the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga MPV and the Ciaz sedan has scored 4 star safety rating out of 5 in the ASEAN NCAP crash test, which marks these vehicles pretty safe ones.

Recently several Indian cars have been tested in the Global NCAP crash test, and very unfortunately all the cars have failed to get even one star rating. In wake of that event the four star rating of Ertiga and Ciaz is surely good news. Few days ago the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross also scored pretty well in the crash test. Therefore it is very much heartwarming that India’s largest automobile brand is taking the passenger safety issue pretty seriously.

Interestingly, compared to the Ciaz sedan the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga has scored less point in the Adult Occupant Protection segment. The Ertiga is a family oriented vehicle although rather than the Ciaz sedan. A notable point here is that the tested Ertiga and the Ciaz was manufactured outside of India. The Ertiga came from a plant in Indonesia and the Ciaz came from Thailand. Here, let’s take a close look at the individual crash test results of the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti-Suzuki Ciaz.

The car seen in the pics is a Ciaz diesel hybrid in the VDi+ trim. On the outside, the sedan remains identical to the Ciaz diesel already available in the market. The only noticable difference that it gets are the DDiS and SHVS badging. On the inside, it gets steering mounted audio and bluetooth controls. The car also comes with dual airbags, ABS and EBD as standard.

The Ciaz equipped with SHVS mild-hybrid system is expected to be launched soon and will cost a little more than the regular Ciaz diesel.

The manufacturer is also planning to bring in the new Boosterjet 1.0 litre engine. This will probably be seen in the upcoming YRA hatchback which has been named the Baleno.

Recently GaadiWaadi caught a completely different looking Maruti Ciaz being tested inside their factory, this Ciaz sedan according to the reports perhaps is a special edition car.

The Ciaz sedan you can see in the images gets DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) towards the front while you can also notice a special decal stripe on the front hood. Perhaps this is a special edition Ciaz which will most probably be launched on the first anniversary of the sedan. The Maruti Ciaz was first showcased as a concept at the Shanghai Motor Show back in 2013 and it was also showcased later at the 2014 Indian auto expo. Finally Maruti launched the Ciaz in October 2014 in India to take on other C segment sedans of its segment.

However there is also a fair chance that this might also be the body Kit package which Maruti plans to offer with the Ciaz this year, this body kit includes new aggressive bumpers, side skirts and also a new diffuser or differently styled rear bumper towards its exterior. While inside the car you also get premium leather upholstery, touch screen infotainment system and perhaps also a GPS navigation system. But the ‘Aero Package’ did not include DRL’s which you can clearly notice from these spyshots.

The Maruti Ciaz competes directly with the Honda City, Ford Fiesta sedan and the VW Vento and it surely was successful in bringing more sales figures for Maruti.

Maruti-Suzuki Recalls 3,796 Units Of Their Newly Launched Ciaz Sedan

It’s really surprising and shocking at the same time that Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall of their recently launched Ciaz sedan. The Ciaz sedan became extremely popular amongst the Indian customers and even took on its biggest competition Honda City and outsells it during the month of October 2014.

Maruti has recalled a total of 3,796 units of the Ciaz sedan in order to inspect and replace a suspected faulty part (if found defective) related with the clutch of the sedan. However Maruti has recalled only the diesel and petrol variant manual transmission variant of the sedan while the automatic transmission variant remains unaffected. The carmaker has also recalled those units which were made until the time period of November 7th 2014.

Maruti has already contacted the owners of the effected cars and will replace the faulty parts free of costs if found defective beside that they will also be setting up a service campaign for the cars in the interest of the customers. The owners can also check the Maruti Suzuki website and enter their sedans chassis number which is MA3 followed by the 14 digit alpha numeric number (embossed on the vehicles I.D Proof and is also available on the vehicle invoice / registration documents) and check whether their car is affected or not. The customers can even contact their nearest Maruti Suzuki dealers to find out that whether their car is a part of the recall process or not.

After the failed attempt with the Baleno and the SX4 sedan Maruti is quite positive about their new Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento and Skoda Rapid rival.

The Ciaz first made its public appearance at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi where it gathered lot of attention from the people because quite honestly it is one of the best looking products that Maruti Suzuki has offered to their customer yet. We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki already started taking bookings for their soon to be launched Ciaz sedan from September 3rd onward and one can book the sedan by paying a token amount of Rs. 21000 and now it is already confirmed that they will be launching the much anticipated Ciaz sedan on 6th October 2014 in India.

The Ciaz is really one ambitious project for Maruti Suzuki because it will not only replace the existing not so popular SX4 but also will have to compete with other eligible C segment sedans of the Country like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento etc.

Now as far as this new sedan is concerned we all know that it will be launched with the both petrol and diesel engine options, the Petrol variant will be powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor which generates about 91 Bhp of peak power and 130 Nm of torque while the diesel motor that will power the sedan will be a 1.3 liter Fiat sourced diesel unit which produces about 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque interestingly these engines are borrowed from the Ertiga MPV and comes mated to a 5 speed manual transmission but you also do get a 4 speed automatic transmission only with the Petrol unit though. Fuel economy too is a concern for many and thus Maruti Suzuki Ciaz claims to return ARAI-certified 20.73kpl fuel efficiency for the petrol variant and 26.2kpl for the diesel which also makes it the most fuel economic diesel sedan of the Country taking the crown from Honda City diesel.
