QUOTES

“While Maruti Suzuki’s brand name is more than enough to keep the Alto’s sales flying high, we were hoping for a vastly improved Alto to compete with the likes of the Hyundai Eon. However, the changes to the Alto are more than welcome and the refreshed exteriors, new dashboard, marginally more space, slightly more eager engine and better quality of plastics is enough to justify the Rs. 30,000/- price hike which is expected on the new Alto.” - MotorBeam.com

“In reality, the Alto’s road manners are at acceptable levels and will keep the masses happy. Behaviour is predictable and the handling is safe enough, with no nasty surprises. The Alto is agile and a lot of fun to throw around at low - mid speeds. The small 4.6 meter turning radius is a boon, with the Maruti feeling as easy as a toy to drive within urban India.” - TEAM-BHP.com

In the CNG range, branded ‘Green’, the patented intelligent Gas Port Injection (i-GPI) technology which comes as a factory fitment, achieves a fuel efficiency of 30.46 km/ kg on the new Alto 800 Green, an improvement of over 13 per cent compared to the outgoing Alto Green.

The i-GPI technology offers more power and a peppier ride experience along with reliability and safety as compared to the aftermarket CNG fitment.

New Wavefront design

Alto 800 comes with a characteristic Wavefront design that goes perfectly with an entry level car that enjoys wide appeal. The elegant and smooth long curves and the prominent wheel arches add volume to the side stance.

Fresh & Spacious Interiors

The initial test drive reports on Ertiga have complemented its car like ride and handling capabilities while offering UV like space, and power, performance, fuel efficiency.
Smooth handling and ease of drive

The all new Alto 800 will be a driver’s delight. A refined engine that delivers a torque of 69Nm @ 3500 rpm, improved by 11 per cent, will prove valuable for city driving that requires better pick-up and frequent gear changes.
The new cable shift transmission with detent-pin technology and a Diagonal Shift Assist lead to precise gear shifting to make driving much smoother and more convenient.
The suspension of the Alto 800 has been better tuned for optimum performance on Indian roads.

Did You Know the Toy Train in the movie 'Barfi' was actually a Maruti-Suzuki 800?

Have you seen the movie Barfi, which was released in the year 2012? Remember the mushy love triangle between Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ilina D’Cruz? If you have seen the movie, then you must remember those beautiful toy train scenes? Well, according to the plot, the story was based on Darjeeling mainly, and gradually the toy train of Darjeeling had lots of scenes in the movie.

Although the outdoor shoots were done with the real toy train, but several scenes were shot inside the studio. But the real interesting story behind the scene is that the toy train used for indoor shoots was actually a Maruti Suzuki 800, which also happens to be the first car of the movie’s director Anurag Basu.

Talking about the innovative idea, the renowned director said, “I was very emotional about the car.” The chassis of Maruti Suzuki 800 was covered by a steam locomotive, which was actually made of plywood, thermocols (Polystyrene), PVC pipes etc. To make the different parts of a steam engine the art director of the movie Mr. Parijat Poddar used various used materials. Such as, the headlight of the train was made of aluminium utensils, while the nut bolts were made of rubber, which were cut in according size and shape.

That was some real innovative and unique idea, we must say. And it can be termed as ‘Jugad’, as we Indians always calls it!

The car that put India on wheels is nearing its end and if you are still in college then theMaruti Suzuki 800 has been around longer than you. Governments have changed, dictators have died but people still keep on choosing the 800 and it won’t be completely wrong to suggest that the 800 is India’s Model T. Just because the 800 is old and as boring doesn’t make it any less significant. For many buying this small hatch is still the most important thing in their life and two decades after the launch of the 800 did the hatch get its first real competitor, the Tata Nano. The Hyundai Eon is the Korean’s answer to take on the Japanese in their own game and if the rumours are to be believed, the Maruti 800 is almost at the end of its life. It was the 800 that provided to us hassle-free motoring and in India it co-exists with the Alto and the A-star, which are the international replacements of the 800. Prices for the 800 start from Rs 2,06,858 to Rs 2,24,036 ex-showroom New Delhi which puts it above the Nano but below the Alto and the Eon in terms of pricing.
