What do we know so far

We were actually quite surprised when we saw the first spyshots of the upcoming Mahindra MPV on the internet courtesy Motor Vikatan. This will be the new MPV which will take on the likes of the Innova Crysta and the Maruti Ertiga. The report also states that this is the first passenger vehicle which actually came out of Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre (MNATC) located in Troy, Michigan. The technical centre was established almost two years ago and will develop Mahindra’s vehicles which will be launched both in the national and International markets as well.

Although not much details are available at this moment about this upcoming vehicle but it will be Mahindra’s big step outside the Sports utility vehicle segment. The MPV will most probably be offered with either a 7 or 8 passenger seating configuration. This could even attract the customers of the commercial taxi segment as well.

Expect the new MPV to be based on the monocoque platform. The vehicle prototype which was caught testing was heavily camouflaged but expects this MPV to feature a toothed grille towards the front just like other Mahindra products. You can also expect the front profile to get bigger headlamps as well. What else is also clear is the fact that the overall dimensions of this MPV looks similar to the Renault Lodgy.
The MPV also gets a large overhang towards the front compared to the shorter overhang towards the rear.

There are no images available of the interior as of yet but just like we mentioned expect it to get 7 or 8 seating options inside. As far as the interior features are concerned do not expect a premium interior except the top end trims because Mahindra will most probably also pitch this MPV for the commercial markets.

There are no details available yet about the powertrain but expect Mahindra to power their upcoming MPV with either Mahindra’s popular mHawk diesel unit which is also used in the Scorpio or they could even introduce a completely new 1.5 Litre, four cylinder petrol unit which will soon be introduced by Mahindra. Expect this powertrain to be paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox and we are not too sure whether they will introduce an automatic gearbox as well.

The upcoming Mahindra MPV will be priced in the same range as the Renault Lodgy MPV and thus expect it to be priced in the range of INR. 8-11 Lakh.

The new Mahindra MPV will be based on Monocoque chassis which also underpins the Mahindra XUV500 and the KUV100. Thus expect the upcoming MPV to be spacious, powerful and practical at the same time and will also be priced aggressively as well.

We will definitely update you all with more information as soon as they are available.
