What to expect from the facelift model launching in 2017

Mahindra saw the potential in the entry-level Micro SUV segment and decided to introduce their entry level product the KUV100 last year January, and it was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo where it attracted a lot of attention. However, after a year of its launch, some other players too have decided to enter the competition. To be honest the KUV100 never actually scored high concerning overall sales figures, and that is mostly because of its odd shape and compact interior space. Now after the launch of the Maruti Ignis the sales figures of the Micro SUV the sales figures took a major hit.

Now in order stay on top of their game Mahindra has decided to give their micro SUV some updates to attract some buyers towards this particular car. According to the recent reports, Mahindra has plans to introduce the facelift KUV100 after they introduce the more powerful XUV500 in the month of August. So we are assuming that the KUV100 will be launched in India during this festive season.

2017 Mahindra KUV100

According to the reports the overdone styling of the KUV100 was not preferred by many, and thus we are all suspecting that the facelift car will have much cleaner lines. The facelift KUV100 is expected to receive a cleaner grille design and redone bumpers with fewer cuts and creases towards the front. The side profile is expected to get slightly bigger 15-inch wheels which will replace the 14-inch wheels to make the SUV look more purposeful. Some reports also state that the rear tailgate will also be completely redone as well.

Some additional features which you can also expect in the new car might include a different set of alloy wheels; chrome door handles along with a new bumper and grille like we already mentioned above.

Overall Length 3675 mm
Overall Width 1715 mm
Overall Height 1655 mm
Wheelbase 2385 mm
Ground Clearance 170 mm

Do not expect too many changes to the interior though however to compete with its rivals you can expect Mahindra to fit a new touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard. You can also expect Mahindra to add new seat upholstery. WE don’t think Mahindra won’t change the third person seating on the front seat because that was one of the main USP of the KUV100 because this is the only car in its segment which offers an extra seat towards the front.

Mahindra won’t be making any change to the drivetrain though and thus expect the 1.2 Litre three-cylinder diesel and petrol engines to be carried forward to the facelift variant as well. However, Mahindra will definitely make some changes to the engine to increase the refinement level. Some reports on the internet also suggest that Mahindra might also introduce a new AMT transmission along with the standard transmission available with the hatchback.

Engine Type 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Petrol 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Turbo Diesel
Power 80BHP 75BHP
Torque 120Nm 200nm
Transmission (Gearbox) 5-speed Manual/AMT 5-speed Manual

Petrol 18.15 KMPL
Diesel 25.32 KMPL

There won’t be any changes to the Fuel efficiency figures because Mahindra won’t be making any change to the drivetrains. The 1.2 Litre petrol unit promises 18.15 KMPL while the 1.2 Litre diesel unit returns a claimed fuel efficiency figures of 25.32 KMPL.

With all the extra additions including cosmetic updates to the exterior and interior expect the KUV100 prices to increase slightly. However, to stay in the competition, it won’t price the micro SUV more than its rivals for sure. Expect the KUV100 to start from INR. 4.6 Lakhs onward while the top end variant to be priced at around INR. 7.5 Lakh.

The sales of the KUV100 like we already mentioned earlier has taken a hit after Maruti introduced the Ignis. Hopefully with the complete cosmetic updates to the exterior and interior and the addition of some new features like a touchscreen infotainment system and an AMT gearbox the KUV100 will inevitably become a more value for money product which will surely impress the customers.
