I am sure all of you have heard about the M division by BMW, AMG division of Mercedes-Benz these in-house special operation teams with some of the most able engineers makes sure that they transform the popular standard products of these brands into a more buffed up and more powerful road legal cars to satisfy those customers who have really deep pockets and an urge to drive something different and more powerful than what we see on normal roads. Jaguar Land Rover too recently opened their own special operation division which is called the SVR division and just like the popular M division and the AMG divisions the Jaguar Land Rover engineers too dedicated lot of their time and effort to create few such products which are more powerful versions than their standard products.

This SVR division recently unveiled their first product which carries the SVR badge with it the product is none other than the Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport SVR as you all know is a mid size luxury SUV which was first launched by Land Rover in the year 2005 while the second generation Range Rover Sport was launched previous year and is available in both International and Indian markets as well. Land Rover already calls the Range Rover Sport the sportiest Land Rover of all time and the recently unveiled Range Rover Sport SVR is the fastest Land Rover ever produced and is powered by a V8 Supercharged engine which produces mind blowing amount of power and torque outputs but we will talk about those in just a bit but to you give you an exact idea of how fast the new Range Rover Sport SVR is on road is let’s just say that this SUV reaches the 100km mark from standstill in just 4.5 seconds while its top speed is limited to 259.2km/h.

Land Rover revealed some spy shots of the Range Rover Sport SVR being tested at the Nurburgring race track. What is even more interesting is the fact that the Range Rover Sport SVR sets the Nurburgring lap time of just 8 minutes 14 seconds which is really impressive for a SUV.

The Range Rover Sport is already known for its dynamic and aggressive design it has to look different from the bulky SUV’s that you naturally see on the road because it is carrying the Sport badge along with it. Now the Special vehicle operation of Land Rover Jaguar has not played much with the overall dynamics and shape of the already sporty RR Sport so what they have actually done is that they have added few details which has left striking visual impact on this new vehicle.

At the front the SUV gets a new bumper with bigger air intakes which look appealing and give the RR Sport SVR a more distinguished front face, while the lower front grille gets the SVR badge which tells you that this is not the standard Range Rover Sport. The front also gets a restyled and more aggressive looking hood which tells you that this SUV has been built for purpose this bigger vents and air ducts not only looks visually cool but also helps has a purpose and that is cooling and enhancing the aerodynamic efficiencies of the SUV.

The side profile however remains almost untouched but what you do get are an optional unique 22-inch alloy wheels with performance-optimised 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres, which changes the overall appeal of this SUV, However you do get 21-inch alloy wheels with 275/45 R21 all-season tyres as standard with these SUV which will help you to overcome any terrain. Walk towards the rear of this vehicle and you can find a new and more muscular looking bumper hugging the rear while you will also notice a new Black diffuser and quad exhausts. If you take a closer look you will also notice a bigger rear spoiler for better aerodynamics. For your information the SVR operation team has equipped the Range Rover Sport SVR with two-stage active exhaust which also features electronically controlled valves which makes sure that you get the race car inspired exhaust note everytime you step on the gas of this SUV.

Overall the Range Rover Sport SVR looks more aggressive and visually different from the standard Range Rover Sport surely it looks more aggressive than the standard SUV but we love what Land Rover SVR team has done with this SUV.


The special vehicle operation team not only has overhauled the exterior and performance of the of this SUV but also made sure that the consumers feels really special inside the SUV too. So the cabin gets new sports seats which surely looks fantastic but beside just being visually impressive it also has an important purpose off keeping the occupants in their place when the SUV takes some tight turns onto corners or climbing some steep hills and terrains.

This is one of the most prestigious SUV’s from Land Rover lineup so the interior too gets covered in premium quality leather materials and Ebony Black colored leather while there will also be an option to choose from three lighter hues: Cirrus While, Pimento Red and Tan, some Estoril Blue accents. Beside all these additions the rest of the interior of the RR Sport SVR remains almost unchanged you will get the huge touchscreen at the center of the dash to operate the whole infotainment system and various other functions of the SUV. The rear of the SUV too gets the sporty 60/40 split seats to keep the occupants in their place and also to recline when the occupants inside needs more luggage space.

The Sport SVR also gets carbon fiber trim interior as an option beside the standard alumunium trim, one can use these lightweight materials on the door panels, center console and the dashboard in order to reduce some extra weight from the Sport SVR cabin and increase its overall performance.

The Range Rover Sport SVR gets one impressive engine under the hood which is also used in other top end sporty Jaguar and Land Rovers cars like the F-Type and the XKR-S. The 5.0 Liter Supercharged V8 engine produces 550PS of peak power and 680 Nm of peak torque, this engine as you all know is mated to an advanced ZF-8 speed automatic gearbox. This engine is capable of pulling this huge SUV from 0 to 100 km hour mark in just 4.5 seconds which is absolutely stunning considering the fact that this is not a lightweight sportscar but a full-fledged SUV. This SUV can also reach the electronically restricted top speed of 259.2km/h mark.

This sporty SUV lapped the entire iconic Nurburgring track in just 8 minutes and 14 seconds which too is not only surprising but also amazing. There is no doubt in the fact that this is one of the World’s most capable performance SUV. It also gets the segment first all aluminium chassis which also reduced the overall weight by 39% compared to its predecessor. Besides just being lightweight the alumunium chassis is also strong and stiff. This lightweight chassis not only makes the Range Rover Sport SVR agile and sporty but also retains its offroading capability and rugged character.


The Sport SVR has been fitted with lightweight aluminium fully independent double-wishbones suspension setup at its front end while the rear gets an advanced multi-link layout. This air suspension automatically varies between the two ride heights, while the wheel travel class of this Sport SVR SUV is a class leading 260 mm at its front and 272 mm at the rear which helps it tro overcopme any terrain while keeping the passengers inside in utmost comfort. Beside that the Range Rover Sport SVR also gets permanent four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case, with a low-range option for some of the unforgiving terrains.

This suspension setup not only gives the Sport SVR a sporty handling on track but also makes sure that this SUV is capable of handling and overcoming anything which is thrown in its way. The Sport SVR also gets Terrain Response system which also has an Auto mode which automatically selects the type of terrain the SUV is traveling on and providing the best results.


The 2014 Range Rover Sport SVR has not been launched in the Indian market yet hopefully it will makes it way in the Indian market and when it does this particular SUV will be placed on top of the Autobiography lineup and perhaps will be the priciest SUV from the British auto manufacturer.


The Range Rover Sport SVR faces some tough competition from the recently launched Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG in the Indian market.

Mercedes launched the ML63 AMG in India which gets a 5.5 liter Turbo V8 engine producing about 410 KW of peak power between 5250-5750 rpm and 760 Nm of torque between 2000-5000 rpm. That massive engine has been mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. This is not a slow SUV either this gigantic SUV too reaches the 0-100 km/h mark in just 4.7 seconds while the exterior and the interior of this SUV too comes loaded with various other goodies and stuffs which I am sure is at par with the Range Rover Sport SVR standards.


You all are aware of the fact that the Land Rover SUV’s can climb hills, cross water logged muddy terrain in a flash and take you out of any situation but what you were not aware until now is the fact that Land Rover SUV’s can be furiously fast too how fast? Well! We have provided all the details above and you can clearly see a SUV carrying all that weight can still reach the 100 Km mark in 4.5 seconds which will even put some of the so called lightweight sportscars to shame. Now that’s what the JLR engineers have achieved in their SVR operation workshop.

The Range Rover Sport SVR is set to make its global debut at Pebble Beach on 14 August. The fastest, most powerful Land Rover ever produced is the first model to wear the SVR designation being adopted by future Land Rover and Jaguar high-performance models.

The Range Rover Sport SVR accelerates from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds. A top speed electronically limited to 162mph and a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 8 minutes 14 seconds - one of the fastest times ever recorded by a production SUV - underline its performance credentials.

The SVR’s range-topping 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine has been developed to produce 550PS and 680Nm - substantial 40PS and 56Nm increases - without compromising fuel economy. And its advanced ZF 8HP70 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive chassis have been optimised to complement its astonishing performance, whatever the weather.

In a world first for Land Rover, the Range Rover Sport SVR is equipped with a two-stage active exhaust featuring electronically controlled valves. The system optimises sound quality, performance and aesthetics and provides a racecar-inspired soundtrack at higher engine revs without adversely affecting refinement during steady-state driving.

Meanwhile, in another first for Range Rover, unique 22-inch* alloy wheels with performance-optimised 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres* complement the driver-focused chassis. As standard, new 21-inch alloy wheels with 275/45 R21 all-season tyres offer unparalleled all-terrain capability.

Exterior design enhancements ensure the SVR makes a striking visual impact, while simultaneously boosting cooling and aerodynamic efficiencies. A bespoke interior featuring unique sports seats provides further visual differentiation and ensures occupants are held securely in place.

The Range Rover Sport SVR builds on the success of the new Range Rover Sport, with its all-aluminium monocoque - a world first in the segment - which reduces weight by 39% compared with its predecessor and provides the ideal strong, stiff and lightweight structure on which to create the Range Rover Sport SVR. The premium sports SUV unleashes the full potential of the lightweight and robust all-aluminium architecture, while retaining the refinement, luxury and off-road capability for which Range Rover is world renowned.

SVR is fitted with permanent four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case, with a low-range option for demanding terrain, and a 50/50 percent torque split front-to-rear. The upgraded air suspension system automatically varies between two ride heights, and the next generation ground-breaking Terrain Response® 2 system automatically selects the most suitable terrain programme.

The Range Rover Sport SVR’s lightweight aluminium suspension is fully-independent, with wide-spaced double-wishbones at the front and an advanced multi-link layout at the rear. Wheel-travel is class-leading (260mm front and 272mm rear) and provides exceptional wheel articulation of 546mm to deal with the toughest conditions.
Wade Sensing™, introduced on the Range Rover Sport, also features on the SVR. This innovative technology provides ’depth’ information when driving through water, and in line with the mainstream Sport, the vehicle can wade up to 850mm. It also has towing capability up to 3000kg.

The Range Rover Sport SVR has been created by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team and all SVR models need to meet key performance criteria to wear the SVR badge. Range Rover Sport SVRs will be built alongside their mainstream sibling models in our existing production facilities and sold through Land Rover’s dealer network.
