Land Rover Discovery Sport, Defender & India Bound Jaguar XE Honoured With Scottish Car of the Year Awards
Jaguar XE, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Land Rover Defender are three best selling vehicles from British luxury auto maker Jaguar Land Rover. All these three vehicles won awards at the prestigious “Scottish Car of the Year Awards” ceremony.
The India bound luxury sedan XE from Jaguar won the “Best Executive Car” awards, while it also won the “Best Design and Innovation” awards at the same event back in 2014. Commenting about the vehicle Alisdair Suttie, the President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, has said, "With its fine lines penned by Scotsman Ian Callum, the Jaguar XE is as good looking as executive saloons come. It has abilities to match its looks, with first rate ride, refinement, driving dynamics and efficiency." The new Jaguar XE will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo by the British marquee. Once launched, it will be the cheapest offering from Jaguar in India, and it will compete against the likes of Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C-Class and the Volvo S60. The Jaguar XE is built on an all new lightweight aluminium intensive monocoque body frame. Under the hood it gets a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder all aluminum Twin-Vortex supercharger engine, paired with a ZF 8HP45 8 speed automatic gearbox, capable to churn out 344 PS peak power and 450 Nm peak torque. The XE can reach 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kmph.
Ever since, the government of India brought in the import policy reforms, international car makers have had a tough time of selling their products at reasonable prices. The high import taxes meant, the government wanted to promote local production. However, setting up a standalone factory to mass produce luxury cars isn’t as simple as it sounds.
It takes years, before a stage is reached where the rising demand and competition dictates the price of the products. Jaguar-Land Rover has now reached a phase where the demand for their products has skyrocketed. To keep up with the competition, mostly the Germans who already have a stable base here in India, JLR began assembling select models locally.
Next up for local production will be the Jaguar XJ limousine, as mentioned by Dr. Ralph Speth, CEO Jaguar-Land Rover. But, before we get a "made-in-India" XJ, the Range Rover Evoque will be brought in as CKD which will help JLR revise the price of the popular SUV.
Jaguar Land Rover has made huge investments to setup more volumes here in India. Their commitment towards the Indian market has paid off as the brand grew by 21 percent, making it the fastest growing luxury brand in the country. Having said that, there is still a long way to go for the British marques as it still lacks the sheer volumes of the German brands.

Jaguar launched and showcased three of their new products which included the F-type Coupe which was already showcased last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show; the manufacturer displayed the Project 7 F-Type concept which has been inspired from the D-Type at the Auto expo developed by Jaguar design Chief Ian Callum and Chief Vehicle Engineer, Mike Cross.
Beside these Jaguar also showcased the C-X17 crossover concept, which is Jaguar’s first ever attempt at a five-door crossover. This concept vehicle also has a very highly advanced modular aluminum architecture which will be used by the company’s sedan which will be rolled out in the year 2015. Although nothing has been declared officially about which engine will power these new SUV but it can be expected that might have the newly developed four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines under its hood which will also power their upcoming sedan.
On the other hand Land Rover unveiled their long wheelbase version of the Range Rover which is their most expensive product. The LWB version of this Range Rover has an extended wheelbase of 186 mm and as a result of that the occupants get to enjoy more interior legroom (140 mm to be exact) and a boosted recline of almost 17 degrees which is 8 degress more than the standard reclined position. Beside all these the interior has been built and tailored with some of the finest quality leather and materials.
Land Rover also displayed some of their other India product lineups which included the latest Land Rover Discovery and the Range Rover Evoque with 9-speed transmission.
The long wheelbase Range Rover was unveiled by none other than leading Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra while the Jaguar F-Type Coupe was launched by India’s first racing driver Narain Karthikeyan.
