Say hello!! To the Lightweight and agile new generation Discovery
Land Rover recently gave us a preview of their upcoming new generation Discovery with a teaser image of its front profile. The new Discovery will debut at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show which will be held towards the end of the month of September.
This mid-sized SUV from Land Rover is one of the prestigious models from the British car maker which has been in the market since 1989. The upcoming Discovery which will grace the product lineup will be their third generation vehicle. The new generation model front profile has only been revealed which clearly shows that the new SUV has gotten over its boxy design and now has adopted a more modern design cues from the new generation LR vehicle family.
The Discover Sport will most probably use the same lightweight monocoque platform which is also used by the RR and the RR Sport. This new platform will help reduce plenty of weight which will help its overall performance. Expect this new Discovery to be more practical while it will also get a new powertrains under its hood.

The new Discovery’s takes its styling cues from the Discovery Vision concept which was already shown at the New York International Auto show showcased almost two year ago. The first vehicle to grace the new design architecture was the Discover Sport which is positioned lower than the Discovery but has even became popular then the Evoque.
Coming to the new generation Discovery, although no other details has been revealed apart from the teaser image but the new Discovery looks more purposeful and the best part is that it seems to lost its boxy design shape as already mentioned above. Towards the front the SUV gets more aggressive design cues. The sharp headlamps with the LED daytime running lamps look similar to the smaller Discovery sport. The front bumper definitely looks much more purposeful now with the silver finished underbody protector.
No details of the interior have been revealed yet but this will be a seven seater offering as well just like the smaller Discover Sport SUV. If we are not too wrong then expect the new SUV to get its cabin design hints from the smaller Discovery Sport as well the bigger RR Sport.
The reduced overall weight of the Discovery Sport might help Land Rover to fit the smaller 2.0 Liter Ingenium diesel engine under its hood while there will most probably be a powerful diesel unit on offer as well. The current generation Discovery is offered with a 3.0 Liter V6 diesel engine.
The Audi Q7 will be perhaps its biggest rival when LR finally launches the Q7 in India. The new generation Q7 received a completely new styling and new engines under its hood. For the Indian market the Q7 is offered with the 3.0-liter TDI unit which is capable of producing about 272 Hp of peak power and 600 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.
