This will definitely catch your attention because the Land Rover Discovery Sport was caught being tested on the roads of Mumbai which gives only one indication and that is Land Rover will be launching their newest SUV soon in the Indian market.

The new Discovery Sport is a replacement for the already existing Freelander2 SUV and it uses the same platform which is also shared with the Evoque. 2014 Land Rover Discovery

2014 Land Rover Discovery

For those who aren’t familiar with the Land Rover Discovery, know this. It’s just legendary. First introduced in 1989, a person would only consider a Discovery if his day-to-day activities involved ferrying his family across a murky swamp or through a desert. It had the excellent, bulletproof chassis and the powertrain of the 1st-gen Range Rover, while it came with its own features like vast, boxy rear cabin, so that a farmer can fit a cow in there.

Since then the Disco has received extensive updates that focused on turning this farmer vehicle into a premium leather/wood suite on four wheels. But all that hasn’t compromised the true core value of a Land Rover, that is tackle through any terrain with seamless effort. And the new 2014 Land Rover Discovery continues to uplift that core value.

We’re not going into detail about the new Disco, as it’s just a subtle update over the previous model. This update is merely a cosmetic one that keeps the large 4x4 inline with the other models offered by the Sollihul-based brand.

2010 Land Rover Discovery 4

2010 Land Rover Discovery 4

The Range Rover was far too expensive and to premium a vehicle to be taken off road. Think about it, who in their right mind would want to take out their SUV which would cost as much as a sportscar in an area which is sure to leave it a bit shaken to say the least. The other option was the Defender which was seen far too agricultural and basic. The Discovery was engineered to fill the gap between the Range Rover and the Defender. Land Rover first launched the Discovery in 1989 which used the old Range Rover chassis. In 1998 the manufacturer then launched the second-generation of the SUV which basically was an update version of the original Discovery and in 2004 the third and significantly different Discovery was launched. The Discovery now for the first time used a monocoque body under Ford’s ownership. This was a clean-sheet model and was funded during Land Rover’s period of ownership by Ford. The Discovery on sale, which is the 4th generation, was introduced in 2009 and this basically is an extensive facelift of the Discovery 3. The SUV is available in India at a price of Rs 62,03,362.
