Land Rover will bring a special concept SUV to this year’s New York Auto Show. It is called the Discovery Vision Concept and is to be the basis for the replacement Discovery model. That said, Land Rover also has plans to replace the Freelander which sits right at the bottom of their portfolio.
The British marque has now revealed that the next Freelander will actually be called Discovery Sport. The official announcement will be made during the show but word is out that a new Discovery family is in the making. This also means that like the Range Rover family, the next Discovery will spawn another model which could be offered at a slightly lower price point and with a different character. The future Discovery family will be made up of four different variants including a seven-seat, five-seat and four-seat version.
Land Rover will also debut an innovative Transparent Bonnet Headup display at the NY auto show. The system is an application of HUD technology which incorporates live camera feeds to give the impression of a transparent or see-through bonnet.
Ever since, the government of India brought in the import policy reforms, international car makers have had a tough time of selling their products at reasonable prices. The high import taxes meant, the government wanted to promote local production. However, setting up a standalone factory to mass produce luxury cars isn’t as simple as it sounds.
It takes years, before a stage is reached where the rising demand and competition dictates the price of the products. Jaguar-Land Rover has now reached a phase where the demand for their products has skyrocketed. To keep up with the competition, mostly the Germans who already have a stable base here in India, JLR began assembling select models locally.
Next up for local production will be the Jaguar XJ limousine, as mentioned by Dr. Ralph Speth, CEO Jaguar-Land Rover. But, before we get a "made-in-India" XJ, the Range Rover Evoque will be brought in as CKD which will help JLR revise the price of the popular SUV.
Jaguar Land Rover has made huge investments to setup more volumes here in India. Their commitment towards the Indian market has paid off as the brand grew by 21 percent, making it the fastest growing luxury brand in the country. Having said that, there is still a long way to go for the British marques as it still lacks the sheer volumes of the German brands.

Premium sports utility vehicle makers at Land Rover have launched the all-new lightened and even more capable Range Rover Sport in India. The Range Rover family has moved up a notch with the 2014 model and with that, the price to has been revised so that the base diesel now costs well over INR 1 Crore.
That’s is a lot of money for a premium SUV, but when it comes to making luxury off-roaders, folks at Land Rover are the best in the business. The previous generation of the Range Rover Sport was not quite capable as its elder sister- the Ranger Rover "proper".
It rode on low-profile road tires which did not help when the tarmac disappeared. However, it did excel when it came high speed performance on the paved surfaces. With the new, Land Rover has addressed this issue making the Range Rover Sport almost equally capable as its cousin.
Under the bonnet, you can have a considerably frugal SDV6 3.0-liter diesel engine or you have the option of a 5.0-liter Supercharged V8. Although, the new Range Rover Sport is much lighter than its previous generation, it still is a 2 tonne SUV. With the V8 monster under the hood, it does deliver what it says on the badge; "Sport", right.

Due to depreciating value of Indian currency, many premium brands are forced to raise the prices of their current top-sellers. This is one of the main reasons why such brands are now focusing on locally built entry-level models that might help gain some market share. Seeing this Land Rover jumped the bandwagon and launched the locally made Freelander 2.
Meanwhile they have quietly launched the Freelander 2 S Business Edition in India, which is a slightly lower version of their Freelander 2 HSE. It misses out on few equipment and extra comfort features inside. But, other than that, business is usual
The mechanical specification of the Freelander 2 BE will be the exact same of the Freelander 2 range. It’s good that Land Rover hasn’t compromised any of the Land Rover’s engineering in the name cost reduction
