Land Rover has added another member to their Range Rover family. The new SUV is called Range Rover Velar and it will be positioned in between the Range Rover Evoque and Sport. The new SUV was unveiled Infront of the World on 1st March 2017 and will be showcased at the 2017 Geneva Motor show.
Like they have promised Land Rover deed introduce the Velar on the first day of March. This is actually the fourth member which has joined the RR family. According to Land Rover there are five elements which define the all new Velar SUV. These are driven by reduction, the entire SUV has been designed and engineered with belief in reductionism. The second element that the British auto manufacturer has kept in mind while building the Velar is it has been equipped with technology-enabled design which will provide the next logical step in expanding the RR portfolio. The third and perhaps the most important point about the Velar is that, the entire RR range originated from the original Velar prototypes of 1969. The last element which influences the Velar is that it also promises to incorporate advanced technologies and attention to detail. Land Rover also claims that the Velar has also been refined for every occasion.
The new Velar is based on JLR’s new lightweight Aluminium Architecture and can take on any terrain thrown in its way. So without any further due let us get straight into the details.

The Velar adds new glamor and elegance to the RR family like we already mentioned above the Velar will fit in between the Evoque and the Discovery Sport.
Now for those who will see the Velar for the first time will instantly recognize it as one of the members of the RR family. This mid-sized luxury SUV adds a new dimension to the RR family. The large wheels, sharp silhouette helps in enhancing the SUV’s dynamic appearance. While the floating roof and clamshell bonnet help in reflecting the SUV’s character lines which focus on the all-terrain capability of the vehicle for which it is known worldwide. The short overhang towards the front looks equally good with the full LED headlamps as standard and also gets pronounced kicks to add muscular stance. The front bumpers also get aggressive looking air inlets. The front profile also features a subtle skid plate which helps in showing hints of Velar’s performance and its off-roading capabilities.
The side profile of the SUV gets a Flush deployable door handle which also gets subtle LED illuminations. These door handles gets quickly deployed when the doors are unlocked. This door handles retract once the doors are locked. The LED taillamps towards the rear help in echoing the sophistication of the SUV’s. The rear profile also gets high-level stop lamps. The rear fog lamps also get LED rear fog lamps into the full black contrast graphic.

Just like the exterior the interior too gets a touch of sophistication along with a perfect blend of engineering and technology. The driver seats, in particular, get a sporty and commanding view of the road ahead while it also gets 20-way adjustment and heating, cooling and massage functions. The seats, in particular, have been designed keeping the ease of entry and exit in mind. The rear seats, in particular, can actually be folded in 40:20:40 format and are also available with heating and electric recline options. The cabin in particular also gets four-zone climate control and cabin air ionization system.
The dashboard towards the front houses two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens of the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. The instrument panel too has been neatly laid out which ends towards the Terrain Response and Terrain Response 2 controls into Touch Pro Duo. The integration of these controls has helped in eliminating the traditional dials giving the central console a cleaner look. The instrument cluster, in particular, gets twin-analogue deals with a 5-inch TFT display in between them. The two-dial layout with an information panel in the centre, a one-dial layout flanked by dual information shows a full map view. The Velar also gets a full colour head-up display which provides some major information like speed, turn-by-turn navigation instructions, and active safety system warnings.
If we talk about seat upholstery, the Standard models feature Suedecloth and Luxtec upholstery with distinctive twin-needle stitching. While the top end S and SE models upgrade to high-quality, perforated grained leather. The top of the line HSE trim gets luxuriously soft perforated Windsor leather upholstery.
If we talk about space, both the front and rear seat passengers get plenty of space inside the Velar also provides an impressive 673 Litres of boot space at the back as well. To get an easy access, Land Rover Velar also features a gesture controlled tailgate as well.
Coming to the infotainment system with the Velar compact SUV Land Rover is going to debut their latest and the most advanced Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which features two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens. The occupants can individually select and display on the main part of the screen to provide more detailed information and user options while the side panels provide an easy access up to five frequently used functions such as navigation, media, phone, news and weather. The lower touchscreen, in particular, manages features like climate control and Terrain Response services. For the entertainment of the passengers inside the Velar gets a 1,600W Signature Sound System developed with renowned British audio experts Meridian.
Land Rover has provided a total of 6 drivetrain options under the hood of the Velar SUV. The diesel variants get Land Rovers refined four-cylinder Ingenium diesel which tends to provide high levels of torque at low engine speeds. The base diesel variant gets the D180 2.0 Litre, four-cylinder diesel unit which is capable of producing about 180PS and maximum torque of 430Nm from 1,500rpm. This engine also tends to provide tremendous performance as well. While for those who prefers a slightly more powerful drivetrain can get their hands on the D240. This drivetrain gets two turbochargers. The D240 produces about 240PS and an exceptional 500Nm of torque from just 1,500rpm. Then there is also an option of a more powerful 3.0-litre V6 diesel in the form of the D300. This engine is capable of producing about 300PS of peak power and astonishing maximum torque of 700Nm.
The petrol variant, on the other hand, gets the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium powertrains. The base models get the P250 variant which produces about 250PS of peak power and maximum torque of 365Nm, produces in between just 1,200rpm to 4,500rpm. While for those who wants more performance can get their hands on the P300 which is one of the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever used under the hood of the Land Rover. This engine makes about 300 Ps of peak power and 400 Nm of torque, however, this engine will be distributed later this year.
Lastly, there is also an option of 3.0-litre supercharged V6. Known as the P380, which is an all aluminum petrol engine, this unit is equipped with Twin-Vortex Supercharger, direct injection and dual-independent variable-camshaft which delivers an instant response. The engine is capable of producing about 380PS at 6500rpm and 450Nm of torque.
All the powertrains mentioned above are paired to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with paddle shift controls.

Velar’s new lightweight but rigid chassis offers the perfect balance in between comfort, dynamics, and all-terrain capability. The Macan is the most dynamic SUV from Porsche which is offered with plenty of drivetrain options and trims across the globe. The Macan is available with the 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine, which comes mated to a seven speed Porsche Doppelkupplung automatic gearbox, and powered by an All Wheel Drive (AWD) technology. This diesel mill is capable of producing about 258 hp peak power at 4000-4250 rpm, while the maximum torque amount comes as 580 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm.
There is no doubt that the RR Velar is one of the finest looking SUV of the Land Rover lineup.
