The Coupe even looks wilder without its roof
After almost a year Lamborghini launched the Huracan LP610-4 they introduced the Spyder variant as well at the 2015 Geneva Motor show. The Huracan was brought to replace the iconic Gallardo and thus its successor had a humongous task to live up to its predecessors name and thanks to the brilliant engineering package, it was. The car was so good that it was even faster than its bigger and more powerful brother, the mighty Aventador.
When Lamborghini launched the Gallardo back in 2003, a few people said that it is not how a Lamborghini should be. It was not mad enough. But all this changed when the convertible came out in 2006 and this kept many people happy. The spyder changed the character of the supercar completely and it was just mad. Just imagine you drive the same machine with that roaring engine just behind your seat and with the roof off.
Just like what have seen with the Gallardo Lamborghini launched the coupe first then came the Spyder variant. With the Huracan Lamborghini repeated the history again, they launched the Coupe variant first and then decided to launch the soft top Spyder variant of the same coupe later. Just like we all would have expected the Spyder variant looked dead gorgeous without its roof but at the back it still carried the same naturally aspirated 5.2 Liter V10 unit which is one beast of an engine.

Even though the new roadster is based on the Huracan coupe, it is more striking to look at. The most distinctive feature is the new soft top. The new top is available in three different colours: black, brown and red. The new top opens and closes in just 17 seconds and this can be done at speeds of up to 50 kmph. Whether the top is down or up, the driver can electronically control the rear window.
Another new design feature is the new rear deck which features two movable fins that open and close when the roof is being operated. It also air intakes painted in black. The supercar uses wind guards, integrated ducts, wind nets and spoilers to reduce wind noise and turbulence.
Besides all the above mentioned changes the Spyder variant looks exactly like the Coupe, towards the front you can notice the same steep nose and the bigger air intakes. The distinct aerodynamic shape is highlighted even the Spyder variant as well. Lambo provides different wheels for the Spyder variant as well. While towards the rear profile the Spyder variant gets a different engine cover. Just aks anyone and you will get the same answer that the Spyder variant looks way better than the Coupe variant.

The interior of the Spyder looks identical to the coupe. It still gets the sharp interior styling with razor sharp and detailed instrument display which consists of a 12.3 inch TFT display that can be configured in several modes according to the drivers own choice. The steering wheel has gear shift paddles and buttons for different functions including the buttons to choose between different driving modes which include the Strada, Sport, and Corsa modes.
The centre console too looks identical to the coupe variant. Even the fighter jet inspired start button has been carried over. Buttons to operate the rear windows and the soft top are positioned on the centre console.
Offcourse the car also speaks of luxury and to make sure the occupants gets the best of Lambo, the interior has been finished in Alcantara, nappa leather and carbon fiber trims. Lambo provides a choice to choose between five trims and leather available in 17 different colors.
Coming to the drivetrain the new LP610-4 Spyder is powered by the same naturally aspirated 5.2 Liter V10 engine that is found in the coupe. It has been developed to produces 610 hp of peak power and 560 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a “Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF) 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that can shift gears at lightning speed, the Power is sent to all four wheels at the same time.
Talking about performance with the roof down, the roadster will accelerate to 100 kmph from standstill in just 3.4 seconds which makes it only 0.2 seconds slower than the coupe variant while it can reach a top speed of 324 km/h mark. The reason for the car to lose some amount of speed compared to the Coupe variant is because of the weight it gained because of the fabric roof top and the machine which helps it to open and close. Moreover a roadster needs additional beams to strengthen the chassis which also leads to an increase in weight.

Just like the coupe, the Spyder too gets a hybrid chassis which combines aluminum and carbon fibre. Torsional stiffness has improved by 40 percent over the Gallardo Spyder.
It also gets the technologies available in the coupe like the ANIMA switch (Advanced Network Intelligence Management) on the steering wheels. This can be used to choose between three different driving modes. The supercar also gets LPI system (Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale) which has 6 sensors to provide the best handling at all times. Lamborghini has given carbon ceramic brakes as standard.
As optional extras, the buyer can also choose the LDS (Lamborghini Dynamic Steering) system and the magneto-rheological damper which can change the damping characteristics.
Lamborghini launched the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder in India and it is priced at INR. 3.89 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
One of its major rivals, the McLaren 650S Spider is not available in India.
This is Ferrari’s latest supercar. The open top version of 488 GTB. It replaces the 458 Spider from the Italian manufacturers line-up. Compared to its predecessor, the supercar has extensive aerodynamic changes and it has a turbocharged engine. It will be shown at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show. It is a hard top convertible and can seat 2 people.
The 488 Spider is powered by a turbocharged V8 petrol engine that produces 660 hp and 760 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed F1 dual clutch transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The supercar accelerates from a stand still to a 100 kmph in just 3.0 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of more than 325 kmph. The roadster returns 8.77 kms to a litre of fuel.
The Ferrari 488 Spider will cost around the same as the 458 Spider which retails in at INR 4.07 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet
The Porsche 911 is the most iconic sports car ever built. It has been on sale for over 50 years now. The Turbo S was unveiled in May 2013 and with this new car, Porsche created one of the fastest accelerating cars mass production cars at that time. It also featured improved handling thanks to new innovations like rear-wheel steering. It is a soft top convertible which can seat 4 people.
The Turbo S is powered by a turbocharged 6 cylinder petrol engine producing 560 hp and 700 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The car accelerates from a stand still to a 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 318 kmph. The cabriolet returns 10.10 kms to a litre of fuel.

Audi R8 V10 Spyder
The R8 is the favorite budget supercar for many people. This is mainly due to its looks and its role in the Iron Man movies. The convertible version was launched in 2010. A facelifted 2015 model was launched sometime back. The German manufacturer recently revealed the second generation of the coupe. The Spyder is a soft top convertible which can seat 2 people.
The V10 Spyder is powered by a Lamborghini derived naturally aspirated V10 petrol engine producing 525 hp and 530 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch S tronic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The supercar accelerates from a stand still to a 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and it goes on top a top speed of 312 kmph. The Spyder returns 5.95 kms to a litre of fuel.

With the Huracan Spyder, Lamborghini will continue to rake in impressive sales figures. The supercar gives all the brilliance available in the coupe and you can know hear a lot more of that screaming V10 with the superb exhaust note as a bonus. For sure, it will impress on a race track as well, putting in fast laps.
With the Spyder version under its belt, the Huracan will for sure become the best selling Lamborghini under its belt. The Italian company just added a dash of its madness to make up for what looked like a sedated coupe.
