A Crossover with a heart of a sportscar

Premium Auto manufactures like Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW has already entered the Crossover and premium SUV segment and made a lot of name, so in order to stay in the competition the iconic British auto manufacturer Jaguar who has been in the business of building cars for more than 80 years now too showed their interest in entering the competitive premium SUV and Crossover segment. So the first step they took was when they showcased the CX-17 Concept SUV at the Frankfurt Auto show back in the year 2013.

Jaguar has stunned the World towards the beginning of 2016 by revealing fewer details of their all new performance oriented Crossover called F-Pace, the F-Pace also happens to be the production version of the same CX-17 Concept about which we mentioned above.

The F-Pace carries some design DNA from Jaguar’s popular sportscar in the recent times the F-Type so you all could imagine that this Crossover is a lot sportier than you actually could think. To add to the sporty character the new F-Pace is also built on lightweight aluminum architecture. This performance Crossover promises to offer dynamic performance, agility and responsiveness. The F-Pace also promises to offer everyday usability at the same time combine class leading interior space along with an exceptional on road presence and dynamics.

The F-pace is a high performance Crossover with the capability of carrying 5 occupants inside and it underpins Jaguar’s innovative aluminium-intensive architecture like we already mentioned which is also shared with their new XE compact sedan. Besides being lightweight the F-Pace is also fitted with an advanced suspension setup. It also gets an all-wheel drive and Jaguar’s revolutionary All-Surface Progress Control technology.

So you can imagine that this is definitely a worthy Jaguar Crossover which not only gets some really advanced technologies onboard but definitely is also one worthy competitor to the other Crossovers like the Porsche Macan or the BMW X4.

Jaguar first used the ‘C X’ Nomenclature when they first showcased the ’C-X16’ production concept back at 2011 which was the concept form of Jaguar’s latest sportscar called the F-Type. Jaguar then continued using the same "C-X" nomenclature and showcased their next concept Crossover called the CX-17 back at the 2013, Frankfurt Auto show.

The CX-17 Crossover also happens to be Jaguars first ever 5 door Crossover which also underpins highly-advanced modular aluminum architecture. At that time Jaguar also confirmed that their future models will get the range of all new four cylinder diesel and petrol engines beside that there will also be a choice of powerful V6 engine on offer too.

The Jaguar F-Pace Crossover was designed by none other than Jaguar’s director of design Ian Callum himself, he said that the Jaguar F-Pace has been inspired by the Jaguar F-Type sportscar and it balances performance, style and practicality at the same time. He also included that the F-Pace exterior in particular has been inspired purely from Jaguars sports cars.

The F-Pace definitely looks sport from every possible angle; the front profile gets the bold grille with headlamp units which definitely look sharp. The headlamps are full LED units which also gets integrated ’J’ blade LED daytime running lamps. The Crossover also gets a muscular bonnet on top which gives us a hint of the powerful engine that is stored underneath the bonnet. The side profile of the crossover has not changed much from the concept variant. The Glass area is designed quite effectively too even the B and C Pillars are blackened out for that premium look. The F-Pace also gets an impressive 213 mm ground clearance which is complimented by those impressive forged 20 inch wheels, some top end variant also received 22 inch wheels as well. .

Towards the rear profile it is quite evident that jaguar has taken some styling cues from the sportier F-Type sportscar especially when you look at those taillamps. While the sloping roofline and the integrated roof spoiler not only helps in giving the Crossover muscular appearance but also sporty look. The F-Pace has an impressive drag co-efficient of 0.34 which is pretty impressive for a Crossover.

The Crossover with its powerful rear haunch, fender vents and muscular appeal actually serves dual purpose it offcourse gives it a sporty character while at the same time also adds a hint that it can perform sweetly when the tarmac runs out.

The interior of the new Jaguar F-Pace definitely looks well proportioned and covered with high quality materials and leather. Like every other Jaguar car you can also notice that the gear lever slowly rises up which is actually a signature styling for this auto manufacturer. In the middle of the dashboard there is a 120.2 inch infotainment screen which comes with industry leading technology.

The infotainment fitted inside the F-Pace gets premium InControl Touch Pro system which also comes with a powerful quad core processor and runs on ultra fast Ethernet. The seats in particular looks comfortable including the driver and passenger seat, while the second row seats in particularly has been raised by almost 10 mm more than the front seats for a better view. The F Pace also provides an impressive 650 Litres of boot space at the rear which can also be expanded to 1740 mm if the seats are folded.

The new Jaguar F-Pace will consist of powertrains which will range from a 2.0 Litre diesel engine which will be paired to a manual as well as there will also be an option of an automatic transmission as well. This engine will be available in both Rear wheel driver as well as all wheel drive variant. Apart from that there will also be a 2.0 Liter petrol variant on offer which will produce about 240 ps of power delivered to the rear wheel drive.

Apart from all these engines the F-pace also gets the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 variant as well which produces about 335 Bhp of peak power and it has been also been tuned to generate 375 Bhp of peak power. This engine will be mated to 8 speed automatic gearbox. The more powerful 375 Bhp will be capable of making the F-Pace sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in just 5.1 seconds which is simply amazing. Lastly there will also be a 3.0 Litre V6 diesel unit on offer too which will produce an impressive 296 Bhp of peak power and an impressive 710 Nm of torque.

The F-Pace like we already mentioned above will be available in both rear wheel drive as well as all wheel drive variant.

As far as the Indian market is concerned Jaguar has decided to introduce two different engine options.The 2.0 Liter, four cylinder Ingenium turbo diesel unit which is capable of producing about 132 Kw of peak power at 4000 rpm and 430 NM of peak torque in between 1, 750-2, 500 rpm. This engine is paired to 8 speed auto transmission. The Crossover with this 2.0 Litre unit under its hood takes about 8.7 seconds to sprint from 0-100 km/h mark while it has a top speed of 210 km/h mark. The other more powerful engine on offer is the 3.0L V6 turbodiesel unit which is capable of producing about 221 kW of peak power at 4000 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. This engine too is also shares the same 8 speed auto transmission which sends power to all the four wheels of the Crossover.

We all know Jaguar has been testing their upcoming Crossover for quite some time now and also releasing few details gradually about the upcoming Crossover. Recently they have unveiled some more details of the Crossovers chassis and how it is expected to handle. According to Jaguar the new F-Pace will provide the owners both agility and comfort and will unlikely be anything that is found in this segment. The F-Pace promises to deliver the same agility, composure and refinement be it any terrain or road.

The F-Pace is built on a lightweight aluminum architecture which actually enables the Crossover to handle exceptionally well without compromising the vehicles comfort. The Crossover also gets double wishbone front suspension and Integral Link rear suspension as well which actually helps make the Crossover extremely responsive. Furthermore it also receives power assisted steering wheel which is also used in their sportscar the F-Type, this steering wheel promises to provide maximum feedback and offcourse sharp response. Apart from that the F-Pace will also get the technologies like the torque on demand all wheel drive system which was developed for the F-Type, this feature will help the Crossover to deliver an outstanding flexibility on any weather or road conditions.


The prices of the F-Pace Crossover starts at INR. 68.40 Lakhs while the top end trim is priced at INR. 1.12 Crores (ex showroom, Delhi). The Crossover is available in in four different trims which include Pure, Prestige, R-Sport and First Edition trims.

The BMW X4 is definitely one worthy Crossover from the Bavarian auto giant. This Crossover comes with number of diesel and petrol engine options, the pertol engine range starts from a 2.0 Litre petrol unit which generates about 190 Hp of peak power while the biggest engine on offer is a 3.0 Litre petrol unit which produces about 313 Hp of peak power and an impressive 630 Nm of torque. While there is also a 2.0 Litre diesel unit on offer which produces about 184 Hp of peak power while the more powerful 3.0 Litre unit produces about 306 Hp of peak power. The Crossover is definitely spacious comes with a feature packed and luxurious interior.

The F-Pace will be manufactured in Solihull, UK which will also create new job opportunities for the people.The F-Pace is definitely one of the most anticipated and exciting cars launched in India in 2016. Its sporty styling, premium interiors, powerful engine options under the hood surely will attract all the attention. This will be imported and sold in the Indian market via the CBU route.
