The new age Verna loaded with modern tech and features

Hyundai released a new teaser image of the new generation Verna sedan hinting its arrival a few months ago. The South Korean Auto manufacturer introduced their popular c-segment sedan back in 2009, and it even went onto become the best-selling vehicle in its segment.

Hyundai revealed the 2018 Verna as a concept at the 2016 Beijing Auto show, while later it was launched in Russia with a different name. The new Verna sedan is called Solaris locally in Russia while the same car is sold under the Accent nameplate in Canada. Thankfully Hyundai still retains the Verna nameplate for their vehicle in India. Do not forget the fact that the Verna is important to Hyundai like the City is to Honda or the Ciaz is to Maruti. The bookings for the fifth generation sedan have already commenced in our Country about a month ago, and finally, the car is launched here.

The sedan not only underpins a new platform but is also longer wider and has an increased wheelbase which automatically results in more interior space. What is even more interesting is also the fact that the sedan not only received cosmetic updates but mechanical updates as well.

Update 22.08.2017:- Hyundai launched the new generation Verna sedan in India. The prices and other details have been updated in this review.

OVERVIEW 2015 Hyundai Verna Fluidic 4S

2015 Hyundai Verna Fluidic 4S

As the competition in the C-Segment sedan is increasing rapidly and the top players of the game including the Honda and Maruti Suzuki has already played their turns so now it was time for the Koreans to make the move and that is what they did exactly. Hyundai who is also one of the major players of this game launched the Verna facelift recently and called it the Verna 4S, where the ‘S’ stands for Safety, Style, speed and sophistication.

Offcourse! This is not a new car but all the credit goes to Hyundai for making it look like a completely new car. Hyundai has given the sedan a serious makeover and the Verna definitely gets a new persona. But the upgrades are not only limited to just cosmetics, the new Verna definitely get some upgrades inside while Hyundai has also tweaked the suspension a little to make it a better handling and comfortable sedan. Under the hood too you won’t find many changes and the Verna still carries the same old engines from the previous car and thus the petrol variant still gets the 1.4 Litre and the 1.6 Litre engines while the diesel variant gets the same 1.4 Litre and the 1.6 Litre units carried over from the old car. All the engines remains mated either to a 5 speed manual, 6 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai will introduce touchscreen to i20, i20 Active and Verna

Hyundai will introduce touchscreen to i20, i20 Active and Verna

Earlier we reported in our website about Hyundai Elite i20 getting a new touchscreen infotainment system (Read it here), as we got the latest information, the auto manufacturer will install touchscreen infotainment systems to the i20 Active and Verna too.

The South Korean auto manufacturer saw an 8.3% sales growth in the period of June, 2015 from the same month last year. With this success to boast, they are doing some revamp job on their vehicles, which comes in form of shedding some equipments from Elite i20, as well as adding a few to the premium hatch as well as to the upcoming i20 Active, the crossover based on i20 and also one the sedan Verna 4S. Hyundai already removed the 12V power outlet from the Asta Rim of i20, which is the top one, the mid spec variants too received some makeover jobs in form of removal of leathers wrapping over steering wheel and gear knob. We guess, they did this just to make the way for new touchscreen as it would help to keep the price hike level lower. We heard the new installation on i20 and i20 Active will take place on July end whereas The Verna will get the touch screen during the forthcoming Indian festive season, around October this year.

Hyundai i20’s biggest rival at present is new Honda Jazz, which was launched few days back, and as the new Honda Jazz got touchscreen infotainment system, therefore Hyundai needed to give their same segmented popular vehicles a makeover as an overdue requirement to keep up the competition. The Tata Bolt also features a touchscreen infotainment system, although that is not much popular like Jazz’s is.

Hyundai Too Raises Prices Of Their Products

Hyundai Too Raises Prices Of Their Products

Hyundai today announced that they will be raising prices across their product range from the month of January 2015 onward.

The price hike is due to the deteriorating market condition, increase in the input costs and also high costs of imports due to the higher rupee depreciation and also the high cost of sale. According to the Hyundai officials they have been absorbing the high costs until now but now are forced to raise the price of all their models by a minimum of Rs.5000 to a maximum of Rs. 25, 000 depending on the models and variants which will be effective from 1st January 2015. So for those who are looking to or planning to get their hands on Hyundai product perhaps the December month is the best time to do so.

Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. Vice President, Sales and Marketing said, “In these adverse market conditions, the price increase is necessitated on account of increase in input costs, high cost of imports due to higher rupee depreciation and high cost of sales. We have been absorbing most of the costs but are now constrained to consider price increase across all models in the range of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000 which will be effective from Jan 2015”.

Presently Hyundai Indian product range consists of their entry level hatch Eon, i10, Grand i10, Hyundai Elite i20, Xcent compact sedan, Verna, Elantra, Sonata and their only SUV Santa Fe.

2014 Ford Fiesta VS Its Rivals

2014 Ford Fiesta VS Its Rivals

Ford launched the 2014 Fiesta in order to get their hand on the under 10 Lakh sedan segment of India. The new Fiesta was launched only with a diesel engine option and thus it faces some tough competition from other segment rivals namely the Fiat Linea, Hyundai Verrna the popular Honda City and the Volkswagen vento and its cousin the Skoda Rapid.

In terms of looks Ford has made minor but striking changes to the Fiesta’s exterior and as a result the facelift Fiesta looks more aggressive and modern in every sense. While talking about its rivals exterior styling, all of them surely are not beauty pageant winners but when it comes to impressing the crowd these sedans does that job pretty well, especially Hyundai with its new Fludic sculpture and Fiat Linea with its classy looks.

As far as their interior comfort are concerned we have heard in the past that Fiesta’s rear seat may not be the most comfortable space for spending time because it lacks sufficient leg room and the seats in particular lacks underthigh support unfortunately the new Fiesta rear seats are carried over from its predecessor and as a result of that it still remains perhaps the most uncomfortable amongst its segment. But then the new Fiesta definitely does score with its interior quality of materials, finish and also the equipment list.

There are plenty more information available for you in this comparison review so go through them and hopefully it will clear the doubts of all those readers who want to get their hands on a sedan priced well under the INR 10 lakh bracket.

2014 Hyundai Fluidic Verna

2014 Hyundai Fluidic Verna

It didn’t take long for the Hyundai Verna Fluidic to gain popularity when it was launched in the year 2011. Hyundai is known for offering some of the best value-for-money products and Verna was no exception.

Also, the competition back then was a bit on the back foot. The Honda City that had dominated the mid-size segment was only available with a petrol engine and the Ford Fiesta was priced at a premium.

Fiat was already struggling with the Linea and Maruti was doing any better with the SX4. So, the market was in desperate need of a comfortable, economical diesel mid-size sedan which came in the form of the Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.4 CRDi

The Verna Fluidic was based on the Hyundai’s new design language. The average Indian buyer had got an attractive alternative to the more common Hondas and Maruti Suzukis. Hyundai has now launched an updated Verna Fluidic which retains the same 1.4-liter CRDi engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Rival Comparison: Fiat Linea vs Honda City, Hyundai Verna

Rival Comparison: Fiat Linea vs Honda City, Hyundai Verna

The new Fiat Linea has been launched. When I say new, it actually is just a facelift. However, the Linea is one of the most sought after models among those who know their cars well. Still, the car has faced lackluster public interest in the past. Fiat would be hoping to sell more of these with a redesigned exterior as well as interior.

The new Fiat Linea range starts at INR 6.99 lakh ex-showroom. Keeping it company are two of the biggest names in the business. On one hand you have the super refined Honda City, while on the other you’ve got the value-for-money Hyundai Verna.

The Honda City has just been given total makeover. In fact, this is the all-new Honda City or the next generation of popular sedan, to put it in a better way. The Hyundai Verna had taken charge of the segment in the past few months. That said, things have started to shift in the favor of the Honda City once again.

Sales of the of Honda City have gained momentum. The Japanese brand registered has maintained their lead over the Hyundai for the last two months. Will Fiat with their new Linea be able to cause at least some panic in this segment? Or, will this prove to be yet another bad day in office for the Italian brand, only time will tell. Meanwhile, let’s see what the new Linea has to offer.

Hyundai to introduce new CX variant on The Verna

Hyundai to introduce new CX variant on The Verna

We all are quite aware of the fact that Honda recently launched the City in India which comes with an updated styling, features and a new diesel engine under its hood along with the petrol engine. Now the Japanese manufacturer’s biggest rival Hyundai has no plans of launching any new sedan at the moment to compete with its biggest rival the Honda City.

Thus in order to take on their competition Hyundai introduced a new ‘CX’ variant of their Verna sedan, the new variant will only be available with the smaller 1.4L CRDi Diesel engine which comes with a 6 speed manual gearbox.

The ’CX’ variant of the Verna will be positioned above the “EX” and below the “SX” variant. The features which will be available exclusively on the new ’CX’ variant are provided below:

An automatic climate control Electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors with turn indicators Two-DIN audio system with Bluetooth compatibility Steering-mounted audio controls Electro-chromatic rear view mirror Rear parking sensors with camera ABS and driver-side airbag (which is available presently on the SX variant).

The introduction of new variants on the existing products is a good strategy from the manufacturer’s end, in this way the consumers gets more choices in their hands to choose from. We have recently also seen Honda adopted the same strategy and introduced a new “SX” variant on their entry level saloon Amaze.

Expect the pricing to be somewhere around 9.5 lakh rupees. It is not yet sure exactly when will they launch this new variant officially but we will surely provide you an update of that.

Cosmetic Update for the Hyundai Verna

Cosmetic Update for the Hyundai Verna

Hyundai shall be adding some new features and styling tweaks to its Verna. The sedan will be confined to some minor upgrades which include back-lit buttons for the power windows. The steering controls also will receive back-lighting in the top end variant.

Speculations surrounding the cosmetic changes in the saloon car include the addition of newly designed alloy wheels. To cut costs the spare alloy wheel on offer will be replaced with a steel rim in the high end variant. The three headrests at the rear seat shall be reduced to two. The Verna might also borrow the LED daytime running lamps from that of i20.

The Hyundai Verna is an extremely good-looking sedan but we are sure that a little nip and tuck by Hyundai shall do wonders for their popular saloon car. With the reduced prices, we are eagerly waiting for the new Verna to hit the showrooms across the country soon.

Fastest cars in India

Fastest cars in India

If there is a manufacturer which ought to be happy and benefit from our list then it’s got to be Hyundai. Perceptions about Hyundai couldn’t have been more different from what our list suggests. Out of the 9 cars on our list of the fastest accelerating cars to 100kmph in India, 3 are Hyundai’s. In India and internationally Hyundai’s are known to provide value for money amongst other thing. ButHyundai’s aren’t considered to be tailored towards enthusiasts. Surprisingly enough and going against the flow, some of the fastest cars in India are Hyundai’s. There are also 2Skoda’s in our list which isn’t a surprise and the Laura has been praised by all automotive publications for its handling and performance. The Mitsubishi Cedia also finds its way which though might not surprise many readers but it would surprise some who had assumed that the Cedia was now out of production. Volkswagen is represented by the Polo 1.6 which is amongst the few aspirational cars in India. Another interesting entry worth noting is the Volvo S60 T6 which is a highly underestimated car but surprisingly there is only one BMW amongst the nine cars.

10 most fuel efficient diesel sedans in India

It is a surprise that only one Maruti Suzuki features in our list of the 10 most efficient diesel sedans in India. Even in the diesel hatchback list only two Maruti Suzuki’s featured. It seems like an improbable situation for India’s largest selling passenger car manufacturer to have only three cars in the 20 cars that we have researched on but that’s the fact. Tata however has been the surprise and have the most efficient diesel sedan and hatch and also the most fuel efficient petrol hatch. There are also three cars which use the same engine (the 1.5dCi is used by the Nissan Sunny, Renault Duster and the Mahindra Verito) which is not a surprise and in the hatchback list 6 cars shared the same engine.

Fastest diesel sedan under 10lakhs

We’ve had a few surprises thrown at us while researching for the fastest accelerating cars in India. The Mitsubishi Cedia emerging as the fastest petrol sedan was unexpected and neither did we expect the Hyundai i10 to emerge as the fastest hatch in its segment. Hyundai has now featured for the third time on our list and while the i20 came out as the fastest accelerating diesel hatch in India, the Verna Fluid is the fastest diesel sedan under 10lakhs to 100kmph in the country. 2011 Hyundai Verna Fluid

This Hyundai is the best looking in the segment but the buck doesn’t stop there

The timing of the Verna Fluid couldn’t have been more important. It’s the car that represents the new Hyundai, a confident and bold manufacturer ready to take on the world. It’s almost as if Hyundai is rediscovering itself again. Maruti Suzuki did it with the Swift and the results are there for everyone to see. The new Verna is an important car for Hyundai and replicating the Swift story won’t do the manufacturer any harm. The Verna is a result of Hyundai’s newfound design mojo and with prices starting from Rs7,12,822 to Rs9,83,338 for the petrol variant and Rs8,25,037 to Rs10,95,542 for the diesel variant ex-showroom New Delhi, has Hyundai done enough to keep the competition at bay?
