Hyundai Eon

I had read somewhere that Maruti Suzuki sells one Alto every two minutes. If that’s true then the Hyundai Eon has the potential of being a game changer and Hyundai is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that their small car developed exclusively for the Indian market becomes the bestselling car in India in the years to come. The strong advertising campaign, the teasers that started a month before the launch, publicity through social networking etc, all designed to generate hype around the Eon so Hyundai achieves what it has set out to do – defeat Maruti Suzuki in their own game. Hyundai has a few tricks up its sleeve and unlike the Alto which sold primarily because it was an extremely functional car, Hyundai wants the Eon to be everything that the Alto isn’t. The Eon has flair which is sure to turn heads and with prices starting from Rs2,69,999 to Rs3,75,394 ex-showroom New Delhi, does the Eon really have it in it to become the largest selling car in India?

Hyundai Updates Eon Hatchback With A New Touchscreen Infotainment System

Hyundai Updates Eon Hatchback With A New Touchscreen Infotainment System

The Eon will be the second entry level hatchback after Renault KWID which offers a touchscreen now

Hyundai has silently introduced a sports edition of their entry level Eon hatchback. The Eon Sports edition gets some styling updates on its exterior while the big surprise comes in the form of a new touchscreen infotainment system inside the cabin. The prices for the Hyundai Eon Sports edition start at INR. 3.88 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Era plus trim while the Eon Magna Plus trim priced at INR. 4.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The changes to the exterior look minimal; this special edition model get a side body moulding which will help protect the side profile from any scratches; the other change comes in the form of new roof rails. On the inside, this trim now gets an entirely new touchscreen infotainment system. The 6.2-inch touchscreen system AV system gets phone link which means the occupants inside can connect their Smartphone and access the navigation system and also play music directly.

The touchscreen system definitely will enhance the convenience and style quotient of the hatchback. The hatchback introduced back in 2011, and this is the first time that Hyundai has included a touchscreen infotainment system. The Eon is the second entry level hatch now after the Renault KWID which offers a touchscreen infotainment system now.

There are no mechanical changes made to this edition, and thus the Eon continues to be powered by the same 0.8-litre iRDE three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 56 PS at 5,500 rpm and 74.53 Nm of torque. The engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The more powerful 1.0 Liter unit surprisingly does not get this option. The hatchback offered in base D-Lite, D-Lite+, Era+, Magna+, Sportz+ and Magna+ (O) (O) trim levels. However, the Sports trim is provided with Era+ and Magna+ trim levels only.

The White Polar is the only colour option available with the Hyundai Eon Sports edition.

Refreshed Hyundai Eon On The Works Launch In 2017

Refreshed Hyundai Eon On The Works Launch In 2017

Expect the facelift hatchback to get minor changes both outside as well as inside

Compared to the other entry level hatchbacks the Hyundai Eon is perhaps the only car which hasn’t received any major updates since its introduction back in the year 2011. The only change perhaps came in the form of an addition of a slightly more powerful 1.0 Litre mill under its hood.

Now according to the reports Hyundai is working on a new facelift variant of the hatchback which will likely be introduced in the year 2017. Expect the new hatchback to get minor changes on both its exterior as well as interior. But you all will also be delighted to know that the South Korean auto manufacturer has also plans to introduce the new generation model as well which will get plenty of modern updates and perhaps a new platform as well.

Coming to the facelift variant, expect the refreshed Eon to get a restyled front as well as rear bumper, while it might also receive a slightly tweaked head and taillamps as well. Just like the exterior expect the interior too to get minor changes which might come in the form of a new upholstery and slightly updated music system. There won’t be any changes under the hood.

The Hyundai Eon facelift will continue with the same 0.8-litre iRDE, three cylinder and the 1.0-litre Kappa Dual VTVT three-cylinder petrol engines. Both these engines are paired to a 5 speed manual transmission.

Hyundai Recalls 7, 657 Units Of Their Entry Level Hatchback Eon

The checking and the replacement will be done free of cost

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has issued a recall of their entry level Eon hatchback in India. Hyundai has recalled 7, 657 units of the Eon to inspect and perhaps also change the Clutch Cable Fouling with Battery Cable.

The South Korean auto manufacturer has recalled a total of 7, 657 units of the Eon manufactured in between January 2015 – 31st January 2015. Hyundai will inform and notify their customers in a phased manner for the inspection purpose. The manufacturer will inspect the clutch cable fouling with Battery Cable and replace it immediately if found damaged entirely free of cost.

Hyundai as a responsible automaker makes sure that quality product is offered to their customers. Back in 2014 Hyundai Motors had recalled about 2,437 units of their flagship SUV offering Santa Fe to actually inspect a faulty stop lamp switch. The recall issue has now become a daily routine for the Auto manufacturer to keep in check the safety of the customers.

The Eon in particular has been here in the Indian market for quite some time now and is extremely popular hatchback in this segment as well. Offered with a choice of two engine options which includes the 0.8 Litre and a more powerful 1.0 Litre unit the small hatchback from the South Korean automaker is definitely a worthy rival to the other entry level hatchbacks which includes the Maruti Alto800, Renault KWID and the Datsun Redi-Go.

Renault KWID 1.0 Litre VS Rivals Specs

Renault KWID 1.0 Litre VS Rivals Specs

Find out where the KWID 1.0 Litre stands

Renault definitely will leave a huge impact when they actually introduce the 1.0 Litre variant of the KWID hatchback. They already showcased the hatchback at the 2016 Auto expo where it attracted plenty of attention. Only today Renault has also unveiled almost all the details of their soon to be launched hatchback and we have updated all the details available at this moment about the 1.0 Litre KWID in our speculative review.

The KWID 1.0 Litre variant will not look a lot different than the smaller variant and the only way you can differentiate between the two variants is by actually seeing the 1.0 Litre badge positioned just beneath the C pillar of the hatch and also by the chequered flag positioned towards the lower portion of the front doors on either side of the hatchback. Inside there won’t be too much change either, the more powerful variant will get the same equipment level as found in the 800 cc variant.

We are actually bit disappointed with the safety features provided with the 1.0 Litre variant of the KWID because like we all have expected the more powerful variant will perhaps get ABS or EBD but unfortunately the hatchback is getting neither of them. What was even surprising is also the fact the driver side airbag will be available as an option while there is absolutely no provision of a passenger side airbag.

Coming to the powertrain the KWID 1.0 Litre variant will be powered by the 1.0 Litre, 3 cylinder SCe petrol unit which will churn out about 68 Ps of peak power and 91 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 5 speed manual transmission as standard while there will also be an AMT transmission on offer at a later stage.

The new KWID 1.0 Litre variant will compete with the Maruti Alto K10, Hyundai Eon 1.0 Litre, Tata Tiago and the hatchback with the most powerful engine amongst this segment the Datsun GO.

Below provided is the entire tech spec of the Renault KWID 1.l0 Litre and its above mentioned rivals

This Customized Hyundai Eon Can Give Many Premium Car Nightmares

This Customized Hyundai Eon Can Give Many Premium Car Nightmares

Gets a completely new body kit and a custom made audio system

We all love customized cars because it actually gives us the opportunity to actually add or subtract the things that we actually like or do not like about our standard car. Although the trend of customisation may not be as popular as it is in the other International market but that does not completely take away the fact that we Indians love to do things little differently.

There are couple of custom shops in India who actually does a great job of customising the standard cars and giving them all the extra zing that they need. What is even more interesting is also the fact that these customization shops even tune the standard engines and extract more power which actually does justice to the extremely modified cars.

Here in these images you actually can take a look at the Hyundai Eon which has been customized to its limits. The Hyundai Eon gets a completely new body kit which also comes with custom made spoilers as well. What is even more interesting is also the fact that the Eon even gets its very own bigger custom made front grille which has added more aggressive factor to this rather puny car. To do justice to the car it even gets a stylish 13 inch wheels and wider tyres. As you can also notice the Eon also gets HKS exhaust system which comes with twin exhaust towards the rear. Apart from the exterior the interior too gets a magic touch as well which comes in the form of custom made audio system.

2016 Global NCAP Crash Tests Once Again Proved That We Are Still Driving Tin Cans

2016 Global NCAP Crash Tests Once Again Proved That We Are Still Driving Tin Cans

The crash tests were done under #SaferCarsforIndia campaign

Global NCAP is an independent body who conducts crash safety test on various cars across the world. They came into the limelight when they tested five of the most popular small family cars of the India including the Tata Nano, Maruti Alto800, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo back in the year 2014. All the Indian popular hatchbacks scored miserably at the 2014 Crash test raising a big question about safety of their occupants.

Now after almost two years of that horrible incident, Global NCAP once again proved that the Indian manufacturers has not taken any big step after that horrific crash test results two years ago towards the safety of the passengers.

Global NCAP recently conducted a new test on five different popular Indian cars this time and the results are unexpectedly shocking. The five cars which were tested this time included the popular Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Hyundai Eon and Mahindra Scorpio. Unfortunately all of them failed the test miserable leaving a big question once again about the safety of the adult occupants inside the car during the time of crash. What is even more disappointing is also the fact that these were the results after increasing awareness about vehicle safety in India over the past two years.

So why the Indian manufacturers are still making sub standard cars which are not even able to provide even the basic safety features for its occupants? What is even more shocking as well as surprising is also the fact that these cars were crash tested at speeds of 64 kph which is an average speed on our highways. Indian roads are considered one of the most dangerous and unsafe roads of the world but still we are lagging far behind when it comes to road safety. Although many auto makers are providing airbags nowadays even in the base variant but there are still many automakers that are not moreover a big question is also raised about the structural integrity of these passenger cars.

Below provided are the actually crash safety test results of the five various cars that were tested recently

Featured 2014 Hyundai Eon - Driven

2014 Hyundai Eon - Driven

The concept of entry level hatchbacks has quite literally changed after Hyundai introduced the Eon back in 2011. Be it styling, interior or the petrol motor under its hood, the Eon was the perfect boy which we all envied back in our school days. This was also the car which actually gave Maruti, India’s largest car manufacturer sleepless nights, forget Alto the Eon stole all the limelight and still manages to stay under it even today.

Quite honestly if we actually decide to get an entry level hatchback for our family this definitely has to be the first car that we search for in the internet and try to get a glimpse of it while going to the showroom. The South Korean Auto maker surely benefitted and thus the Eon went on to become perhaps the second most successful product after the Santro and according to the reports Hyundai manages to sale atleast 10, 000 units of the Eon monthly. It was also launched at the time when Hyundai were actually struggling in the Indian market.

When Maruti entered the segment with the M800 there were no competitor and peoples were actually happy with what they got because it was a value for money product, but as time passed the demands of the potential buyers also changed they now wanted little more and the Eon was able to deliver exactly that.

The entry level hatch embodied Hyundai’s new design language what is also popularly known as fluidic design and also uses an all new platform. It is also powered by a newly developed 3 cylinder engine which is the same unit that powers the i10 hatchback minus the 1 cylinder. The Eon with its lower body weight also is able to return an impressive fuel efficiency at the same time.

Guwahati High Court revokes ban on small cars

Guwahati High Court revokes ban on small cars

Guwahati High Court finally revokes ban on small cars after the verdict initiated controversy. In its latest verdict Guwahati High Court has allowed sales of small passenger cars under the 1500 kg category, but only those cars will be allowed for sales which meet the crash test and emission norm of government.

A few days earlier, Guwahati High Court gave verdict to stop registration and sale of 140 models in total which were less than 1500 kg, due to safety norms. These models included cars like Hyundai i10, Hyundai EON, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Alto etc. Due to this verdict sales of small passenger cars were heavily affected in the north eastern states like Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, the sales figure dropped to almost 60%. Incidentally, Assam is the largest market for small passenger cars in north east India with a selling number of small cars reaching nearly 5000 units every month, which came to a dead stop all of a sudden after the verdict.

After this, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) immediately filed a petition challenging the decision of Assam state transport department which led to the ban. SIAM also stated in the petition, that all the small cars sold in the country are certified and have passed all crash test, emission and other mandatory regulations, which are prescribed by the Motor Vehicles Act of India and these cars have been tested by the authorities like the Automotive Research Association of India. They claimed, therefore these cars come perfectly meeting the safety norms, and there is no valid ground to ban the registration and sale of these cars, which ultimately resulted Gauhati High Court revoked the ban today.

Hyundai Eon is all set for an Overhaul

Hyundai Eon is all set for an Overhaul

The small car industry in India is booming with more manufacturers entering the fray, competition is getting intense. Datsun is the latest brand to enter this race with their Go hatchback. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai each have their own products vying for that small fraction of the Indian automotive space.

Datsun may be a low-cost sub-brand of Nissan but Hyundai does not want to take any chances. The company will soon release an updated version of their entry-level hatch; yes! The Eon is set to get a thorough overhaul in order to attract more customers.

The new Eon will get a more powerful engine fitted under its hood but it definitely would bump up the price slightly, however customers will now get a 1.0-liter 3-pot petrol engine with 65 bhp (now that’s 10 more bhp) and 95 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the Hyundai i10. The base Eon will continue to use the 814 cc engine that produces 55 bhp and 75 kgm. That’s about the engine. We also expect Hyundai to add a couple of features to the standard equipment to make the overall package more attractive.

We all know pretty well that, the Eon is the most stylish of the lot and has been quite a success for India’s second largest car maker. Tata Motors is also believed to be working on a 1.0-liter engine for the Tata Nano which should make it an interesting four horse race.

OVERVIEW 2011 Hyundai Eon

2011 Hyundai Eon
