Despite being launched in 2010, the fifth generation Elantra was quite fresh looking, thanks to the facelift it received in 2014. Just one year after the Korean auto giant launched the sixth generation Elantra which gives a clear message how passionate they are about this particular nameplate. There is no doubt in the fact that the Hyundai Elantra is one popular compact sedan all around the world since its introduction in 1990. We got the first glimpse of the restyled and reengineered car when the South Korean auto manufacturer revealed some images of the new generation sedan towards the beginning of last year. Later Hyundai launched the new Elantra at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The popular compact sedan looked upscale with its new design language despite being the entry level C-segment sedan.

The sixth generation Elantra gets sharper headlamps, larger front grille and stylish LED tail lamps. Although everything comes in new package but the Elantra still hasn’t lost its familiar shape. Sixth Generation Hyundai Elantra Debuts In India; Prices Starts From 12.99 Lakhs

The new sedan is packed with features and gets more powerful petrol unit under its hood

The sixth generation Elantra debuted in India today. This is a mid-sized sedan which will take on the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta. The new Hyundai Elantra is launched with both Petrol and diesel engine options under its hood. Prices of the newly launched sedan start from INR. 12.99 Lakhs (ex showroom, Delhi) while the top end diesel variant is priced at INR. 19.90 Lakhs (ex showroom, Delhi).

The new sedan is available with five trim levels which include S, SX, SX AT, SX (o) and SX (O) AT. Under the hood the Elantra gets a completely new and powerful 2.0 Litre, four cylinder, MPi petrol motor which produces about 152 Hp of peak power and 19.5 Kg.m of torque. Hyundai retained the old 1.6 Litre, four cylinder, CRDi motor which used to power the previous generation car. This unit churns out about 126 Hp of peak power and 26.5 kg.m of torque. The engines are paired to a 6 speed manual as standard while there is also an option of a 6 speed automatic transmission which sends power to the front wheels.

The new car is based on a revised version of the fifth generation car platform but is actually 40 mm longer and 25 mm wider than its predecessor. The new Hyundai Elantra measures 4,570 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,465 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

As far as the exterior styling is concerned the sixth generation sedan’s overall design is influenced by Hyundai’s latest Fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language. The new features apart from the new styling includes a projector headlamp setup available from the SX trim onward, boomerang shaped LED daytime running lamps, bigger 16 inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination taillamps, high mounted stop lamps, shark fin antenna, chrome outside door handles.

The new generation Elantra Comes loaded with pelnty of premium features

If the reports according to one of the members of the Automotive India forum are true then definitely the new Hyundai 2016 Elantra is bringing plenty with it. According to the information the new generation Elantra will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options as we have already reported earlier.

The petrol variant will be powered by the 2.0 Litre, four cylinder dual VTVT unit which will be capable of producing about 152 Ps of peak power and an equally impressive 190 Nm of torque. The diesel variant on the other hand will be powered by the 1.6 Litre, four cylinder, CRDi mill which will churn out about 128 Ps of peak power and 265 Nm of torque in between 1900-2700 rpm. Both the engines will be paired to 6 speed manual gearbox while an automatic transmission will also be on offer as an option. Launch on August 23rd

Hyundai has already started teasing the new Elantra just before its launch on their website and also has released a new teaser video of the upcoming sedan. The sedan will be launching on August 23rd and will replace the existing sedan.

The new sedan will make it to the Indian market with a single MPI petrol engine which is expected to produce around 149 Ps of peak power and 183 Nm of torque. The diesel variant on the other hand will most probably get the 1.6 Litre, four cylinder VGT unit which will produce about 136 Ps of peak power and 306 Nm of torque. Both the engine will come paired to 6 speed automatic gearbox and 7 speed automatic transmissions.

As far as the styling is concerned the fifth generation Elantra will get a completely new exterior inspired by Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language along with some European flair. Feature wise expect the sedan to get HID headlamps, vertically stacked LED daytime running lamps and also LED taillamps. Inside the Elantra gets a completely new dashboard which comes with 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system will also get navigational system as well. One can also expect slightly more space inside as well. US Spec Hyundai Elantra Gets Good Rating At Crash Test: Video

There is some good news for the Hyundai fans of India, the US Spec Hyundai Elantra earned top awards from the insurance institute for highway safety. The Insurance institute for highway safety is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization which is dedicated towards reducing the deaths, injuries and property damages caused from crashes on the American roads.

Recently the US Spec Elantra which is also heading towards the Indian market this year has scored the top safety pick plus ratings over the previous generation sedans ratings. According to the institute’s report the previous generation Hyundai Elantra failed to impress them and also score good ratings at the good small overlap rating test. The structure was not impressive and there was maximum intrusion at the occupant’s space of 9 inches. Now compared to the previous car the intrusion level on the new Elantra sedan was only 2 inches. The impressive result was because the car manufacturer has made some changes in their new generation car which included strengthening the junction in between the door sills and the hinge pillars apart from also modifying the front airbags as well.

The top safety ratings were given to the car model which was manufactured after March 2016. The sedan which was tested was also equipped with optional front crash system prevention as well. The crash test was conducted at speeds of 40 km/h while the safety system actually reduced the car’s speed to 36 kph during the time of the collision. This life saving system also completely avoided the collision while it was tested at speeds of 19 km/h.

India bound Hyundai Elantra spotted in Korea

New Elantra was unveiled at 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show

Hyundai will launch their all new Elantra in India sometime around coming August. Before that, the stylish sedan has been spotted in South Korea. A couple of leaked images show a sport oriented version of the car painted in yellow. Although the sport variant won’t launch in India, but the regular variant of the car looks quite similar to the one spotted in Korea.

The next generation Hyundai Elantra gets a hexagonal large front grille with sharp headlamps clusters which come with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front gets chrome garnishing at the front grille while the fog lamps are vertically positioned and they get LED units. The car sports ORVMs with LED side turning lights, sunroof, blackened B pillars, and elongated taillights. Dimensionally the car gets longer and wider compare to the previous version.

The hexagonal grille sports five horizontal chrome slats. The LEDE fog lamps are placed vertically at the lower front bumper. It seems that Hyundai is quite excited about their new generation Elantra sedan. Only recently we have seen them launch two teaser sketches of their upcoming car, one revealing the details of the exterior while the other was of the interior.

As a matter of fact we all are also quite excited about this upcoming car; definitely the teaser sketches attracted all our attention. From the images it is obviously clear that the spyshots of the sedan were clicked inside the production facility of Hyundai. The two spyshots clearly reveals everything about the sedans exterior styling while a particular spyshot also reveals the interior cabin of the Elantra.

The new Elantra looks more grown up, sleek and also dynamic. Towards the front it gets sleek projector and sporty headlamp units complete with integrated daytime running lamps and just like the teaser sketch we can also notice a huge angular hexagonal grille with the Hyundai logo positioned in the middle. The lower front half of the sedan gets ‘L’ shaped air vents which reminds us of the new Toyota Camry to some extent, these ‘L’ shaped element also houses the fog lamps inside which looks quite impressive by the way. The rear profile of the sedan looks equally attractive and gets wrap around LED taillamps. The rear boot lid gets an additional integrated spoiler as well which will help in the sedans overall aerodynamics. If you take a closer look you will notice that the cars overall styling looks to be inspired from a Coupe and we can surely notice Hyundai’s Fluidic sculpture 2.0 philosophy design elements even in their upcoming sedan.

We have been absorbing most of the costs but are now constrained to consider price increase across all models in the range of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000 which will be effective from Jan 2015”.
