The facelift hatchback gets cosmetic updates and a new diesel engine under the hood

Hyundai Motors India LTD launched the facelift Grand i10 in India; the hatchback was unveiled for the first time in UK last year. While the hatchback is sold in the European market as the new generation i10 the same car is sold alongside its predecessor in the Indian market.

The facelift hatchback which was launched yesterday promises redefined exterior styling, Hi-tech Features, improved performance and Fuel Efficiency. Priced in between INR 4.58 Lakhs – to INR 7.33 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), this new hatchback surely brings a lot on the table.

The facelift Grand i10 surely does not get a lot of change on its exterior but the subtle updates given by Hyundai to the new hatchback is certainly interesting. The Grand i10 is already popular for its bold, sporty and Dynamic exterior but its styling further gets a boost with the help of new radiator grille design, redesigned front bumpers which also houses new set of LED DRLs (daytime running lamps) along with fog lamps. The side profile of the facelift hatchback now hs been fitted with diamond cut 15 inch alloy wheels, while the roof rails helps give the hatchback the macho appeal. At the rear the Grand i10 now features a duel tone bumper with round shaped reflectors positioned on either side, last but not least the rear profile also sports an integrated roof spoiler which adds the dose of sporty nature to the car..

Inside the new hatchback still retains the dual tone beige and black interior with the touches of chrome and silver accents. Apart from the duel tone dashboard the seat upholstery also has been finished in Duel tone colours as well.

The newest addition to the interior is the large 7.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system which also features smartphone connectivity Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link. This infotainment system can easily connect with Smartphone navigation interface and also features a dedicated voice recognition button positioned on the steering wheels which promises to provide safe driving experience.

The rest of the interior however has been carried over from the pre-facelift variant. The ASTA trim now gets an automatic climate control system as standard.

Coming to the drivetrains the Grand i10 facelift still is offered with both petrol as well as diesel engines under its hood.

The petrol variant gets the 1.2L, four cylinder Kappa Dual VTVT Petrol unit which generates about 83 PS of peak power at 6,000 RPM and 11.6 KGM torque at 4,000 RPM. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual transmission while there is also an option of 4 speed automatic transmission available as well. According to Hyundai the Alternator Management System has helped improve the fuel efficiency while the air curtains makes contribution towards better aerodynamics and reduced NVH levels which helps to further boost the overall fuel efficiency figures.

The updated hatchback surely stores a big surprise under its hood, the diesel variant of the Grand i10 now is powered by a new 1.2L U2 Diesel engine which is slightly bigger and more powerful than the old 1.1 Litre unit. The new diesel powertrain generates about 75 PS of peak power at 4,000 RPM with 19.4 KGM of torque in between 1,750 -2,250 RPM. The unit gets only 5 speed manual transmission option.

Talking about the safety features, the facelift Grand i10 gets advanced safety features like Rear Parking Assist System with Dual Airbags, ABS, Reverse Parking Sensors and newly introduced Rear Parking Camera which displays all the output on the newly added 7.0 Inch touchscreen monitor.

2015 Maruti-Suzuki Swift Exterior

The Swift is definitely the biggest rival of the all new facelift Grand i10 in the Indian market. Although Maruti will be launching the new generation car sometimes towards the end of this year. We all are quite familiar with the Swift hatchback. it is offered with both diesel and petrol drivetrains under its hood. The Petrol variant is powered by the renowned 1.2 Litre K series petrol engine which is capable of producing about 84.3 ps of peak power and 115 Nm of torque. The diesel variant on the other hand gets the same 1.3 Litre unit which produces about 75 Ps of peak power and 190 Nm of torque. Both the engine are paired to a 5 speed manual transmission.

Surely there are plenty of changes available on the new Grand i10 which not only enhanced the visual appeal of the hatchback but also at the same time have made the Grand i10 a well equipped car of its segment. The advantage of fuel efficient drivetrains along with a an upgraded diesel drivetrain surely makes the entire package more appealing. The availability of a 4 speed automatic transmission alongside manual transmission also allows the hatchback to lock horns with its rivals with more confidence. .
