Performance oriented version of Elantra gets 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine under the hood
Hyundai Elantra is a pretty stylish executive sedan. In India this car has been used as an upmarket sedan. In its homeland the South Korean auto giant sells this car with a badge of Avante. Now Hyundai has launched a performance oriented version of the car dubbed as Avante Sport in Korea. Expect the car to reach Indian shores later this year, and in that case the car will be christened as Hyundai Elantra Sport in the country.
The performance oriented Hyundai Elantra Sport comes with a powerful engine under the hood, while the car gets very minimal and subtle design tweaks.

Hyundai Elantra Sport is based on the Hyundai’s next generation Elantra. The car gets sharp headlamp clusters with HID headlamps, hexagonal front grille with black surrounding which starts from the headlamp clusters. The front bumper looks stylish with a sleek air intake at the middle, and both ends getting LED daytime running lights placed horizontally. In the next generation Elantra the LED daytime running lights are placed vertically. The large and slated air dams at both ends are highlighted with C shaped chrome trims.
At the side profile, the car sports bold and sporty bold 18 inch lightweight alloy wheels, sharp side skirts and crisp crease running through the doors, blackened B pillars and glass area. The ORVMs get integrated side turning lights. The rear sports a spoiler like part atop the boot lid, LED taillights, faux diffuser and twin round shaped exhaust vents with chrome tip. The Hyundai Elantra Sport gets an optional extreme package, which offers the customers to customize the car with rear spoiler.
Dimensionally the Hyundai Elantra Sport gets 4570 mm of length, 1800 mm of width, 1435 mm of height and 2700 mm of wheelbase. This means, the height has been reduced by 5 mm in the Hyundai Elantra Sport.
The interior of the Hyundai Elantra Sport looks similar to the next generation Hyundai Elantra. The differences are visible in form of sporty themes added to various places. Up front the interior sports multifunction flat bottomed steering wheel with body coloured contrast stitching. The dual pod instrument panel gets TFT display, centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system. The front gets sport bucket seats with black and red contrast theme and Sport badge. The interior also gets faux carbon fibre trims.
Being a performance oriented version the Hyundai Elantra gets a 1.6 litre four cylinder T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine which churns out 204 PS of peak power and 265 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox, while there is a 7 speed dual clutch transmission on offer as well.

RIDE AND HANDLING
The Hyundai Elantra Sport comes with a multilink rear suspension as standard offering. The optional extreme package will offer the customers upgraded stabilizer bars, different springs and shock absorbers in an attempt to accessorize the car to perform more agile.
The car is based on the next generation of Hyundai Elantra. Having said that, the Sport oriented car gets simi8lar safety features. The next generation Elantra is built with an Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) structure which is 32% stronger and rigid compare to the outgoing model. It also gets Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind Spot Detector (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA) etc.
The Hyundai Elantra Sport is priced in South Korea at a range between 19630000 Won to 24100000 Won, depending on the variants. It will be available in three different variants, which are Elantra Sport MT, Elantra Sport 7DCT and Elantra Sport Extreme Selection.
The second generation Chevrolet Cruze will be the competitor against the next generation Hyundai Elantra in India. The next generation Cruze comes with a 1.4 litre turbo DOHC i-4 petrol engine which will produce around 155 PS of peak power and 240 Nm of peak torque.
The performance oriented Hyundai Elantra Sport has no direct competitor in India.
