Honda Mobilio

Yes!! We all were waiting for this MPV eagerly and finally it has been launched in the Indian market today. I am talking about the Honda Mobilio MPV which was launched by the Japanese auto giant today.

The demand for the MPV’s suddenly picked up its pace and there are already some of the interesting products present in the Indian market, for we have the popular Toyota Innova which still sells like Hot cake or the recently launched Ertiga which has become the worthy competitor to the popular Innova and is from the house of one of the most popular and trustworthy car manufacturers of India Maruti Suzuki.

Now, we even saw Datsun who unveiled their new GO+ MPV, based on the GO hatchback which was recently launched in the Indian market, at a Motor Show in Indonesia. To keep the competition hot and to counter attack the revived brand, Honda unveiled the Mobilio that follows the footsteps of most MPVs like the Ertiga and the GO+, by borrowing the platform and looks from their hatchback.

We already are quite aware of the fact that most auto manufacturers use the Indonesian platform to launch their MPVs as it is one of the most important MPV markets of the world. The Honda Mobilio will be the first model from Honda that will compete in the low priced MPV segment, which happens to be the best selling category in Indonesia. Although the front face looks a bit similar to the Honda Brio, things look different as soon as you set your sight to its sides and rear. It does a better job of setting itself apart, unlike the Datsun GO+ that looks like an elongated GO.

So let’s find out all the details of this new Mobilio MPV from the Japanese auto giant Honda and also find out whether it has what it takes to take on its rivals in the Indian market?

UPDATE 23/07/14 Honda launched their Mobilio MPV in the Indian market today with prices starting at Rs. 6.49 Lakhs (Ex Showroom Delhi).

End Of The Road For Honda Mobilio MPV

End Of The Road For Honda Mobilio MPV

Honda officially discontinues the Mobilio from India

After its disappointing sales performance for the past one year or so Honda Cars India Limited was forced to take the harsh decision, they finally did stop selling the Mobilio MPV in India. The Mobilio was even taken down from their official website which confirmed the news.

To everyone’s surprise, the Mobilio MPV was a new model launched back only in the year 2014. The car was launched to take on its biggest rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which was selling like hot pancakes back then. During the time of its introduction and even after a year of its launch the MPV was selling in real numbers, it even went on to beat its rivals. However, the increasing popularity of the SUV’s and decreasing demand of MPV cars recently could also be one the primary reasons for its poor sales figures.

The Mobilio was a relatively large car which underpinned the same platform that also supported the Amaze and the Brio. This MPV sourced its power from the same 1.5 Litre petrol and diesel engine which powers the City sedan. Honda even launched a sportier version of the MPV called the Mobilio RS to attract more attention of the customers and also to increase the falling sales figures. Although the standard MPV hasn’t received any updates since its launch, the RS variant did get few cosmetic updates in the form of a sportier front and rear bumpers and a spoiler, but it still was not enough.

According to HCIL because of the decline in the personal use of MPV segment, they have decided not to sell the Mobilio in Indian market anymore. However, Honda will ensure the availability of spare parts for their existing customers while the dealers will also continue the service of the current cars.

Honda Discontinued The Mobilio MPV From India

Honda Discontinued The Mobilio MPV From India

The company was not able to sell even a single unit of this MPV last month

It might come to many as a shock, but Honda has discontinued their only MPV offering Mobilio from the Indian market due to poor sales figures and demand. They will also decide within the next two months whether they will bring back the new version of the entry-level people mover or not.

The reports also suggest that the Japanese car maker has stopped manufacturing the vehicle and exhausted all their current stocks. Honda launched the Mobilio MPV back in July 2014, and it evidently impressed the crowd with its clean exterior and interior and even managed to outsell its biggest rival the Maruti Ertiga in India soon after its launch. Until now Honda was able to sell a total of 40, 789 units till date but the demand for the people mover declined slowly, and last month Honda was not able to sell even a single unit of this MPV.

The Honda officials said that they are still thinking and taking a decision on whether they will launch the facelifted model in the Country or not. India will implement the new safety regulations soon, and the current Mobilio does not match the safety confrontations. So to continue the sale of the vehicle the company needs to invest a lot of money to modify the car to make it compliant with the norms.

Now, the new car is already available for sale in the markets of Indonesia the company is thus still wondering whether to launch the facelifted car in India or not. The Mobilio was developed entirely at Honda’s R&D facility in Bangkok and was for sale exclusively for the Asian markets. During the time of the launch, the car was priced in between INR. 6.49 lakhs to INR. 10.49 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The current prices of the base variant of the Mobilio rose to INR 7.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) presently.

2016 Global NCAP Crash Test Results Of The Honda Mobilio & Renault KWID

2016 Global NCAP Crash Test Results Of The Honda Mobilio & Renault KWID

We can assure you wont be overwhelmed on reading the report

After the shocking test results last year of the Indian cars at the Global NCAP tests the same organisation tested two more Indian cars recently and we must add the results were not very pleasing once again.

Global NCAP crash tested two different variants of the Honda Mobilio and a top end variant of the Renault KWID hatchback which was fitted with highest safety equipment provided by Renault for the hatchback recently at their testing facility. The results of the recent crash test still definitely once again are a wakeup call for all the Indian customers as well as the car manufacturers.

In the past Global NCAP tested the standard Renault KWID hatchback which was not equipped with airbags and it received 0 rating when it came to occupant protection. After the shocking test result Renault made some changes to their updated entry level hatchback with some of the latest set of improvement. The KWID hatchback was assessed again in the frontal impact test but this time it was tested with the latest set of improvements but unfortunately it still scored 1 star for adult protection.

The other car which was tested was the Mobilio MPV which also was quite a popular choice for the Indian customers. The crash test facility tested two separate versions of the Mobilio, while the first one was a base variant of the MPV the second version was equipped with two set of airbags for the front and side passenger.

The base variant of the Mobilio achieved 0 star ratings while the second variant which was equipped with dual front airbags received three star ratings.

David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP commented that Renault has made limited progress when it comes to safety of the passengers because they should be offering airbags not as an option but as standard, while Honda too should provide airbags not as an option but as standard because with the airbags the car was able to score 3 stars for the occupant safety.

The Mobilio MPV is 4386 mm long, 1683 mm wide and has a turning radius of 5.2 meters which will especially be helpful in maneuvering the MPV in city traffic. Honda Mobilio VS Maruti Ertiga VS Chevrolet Enjoy VS Toyota Innova

Honda Mobilio VS Maruti Ertiga VS Chevrolet Enjoy VS Toyota Innova

Call it media hype or people’s increasing love for the MPVs the Honda Mobilio has already become very popular vehicle amongst the Indian consumers even before its official launch.

The Mobilio will be the Japanese manufacturers first MPV offering in the Indian market and quite frankly we have a handful of other MPVs too in our Indian market, we saw Maruti Suzuki launched the Ertiga back in the year 2012 then we also have seen Chevrolet launched their MPV Enjoy previous year but somehow the Enjoy never took off or became as popular as the Ertiga which is leading the MPV segment right now in India, lastly we cannot ignore the oldest player of this game from the stable of another popular Japanese auto giant Toyota the Innova which was introduced way back in the year 2005 and only received a facelift previous year in order to stay in the game.

The MPV is definitely are the first preference for those who has a big family and before the concept of MPV became popular in the Indian market people had to rely on huge and bulky SUV’s which were hard to drive in the city traffic because of their massive size and bulk but also returned poor fuel economy, but after the MPV market became popular and all these products were launched the consumers can easily opt for a vehicle which not only offers comfortable seating and space for 7 persons inside but can be easily be maneuvered in City traffic which is perhaps their biggest advantage and lastly these modern engines also returns an impressive fuel economy at the same time.

So today we are bringing an exclusive comparison review between some of the most popular MPVs available in the Indian market today and the contenders include soon to be launched Honda Mobilio, the Chevrolet Enjoy, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and lastly the tried and tested Toyota Innova.

The Much Awaited Honda Mobilio Bookings Are Open Now

The Much Awaited Honda Mobilio Bookings Are Open Now

Honda has recently released a TVC of their Mobilio MPV in which it clearly says that the bookings of the Mobilio have already started. The Mobilio is perhaps the most awaited car of the year 2014, although it was already launched in the Indonesian market which is considered as one of the most popular MPV markets of the world but the demand of such type of MPV’s are also increasing in our markets slowly.

The Mobilio is a 7 seater MPV and will thus compete directly with the current segment leader the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Mobilio MPV will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the petrol variant of this 7 seater MPV is a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol motor which produces around 119 PS of peak power and 145 NM of torque this engine has been mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. While the diesel variant of the Mobilio will be powered by the 1.5 liter I-DTEC diesel engine which produces 100 PS of peak power and 200 NM of torque, this is Honda’s only diesel engine offering in India and thus also sits under the hood of the City and Amaze.

According to Honda the Petrol powered Mobilio will return fuel efficiency figures of 17.3 Kilometer to a liter while the diesel engine will return an impressive 24.2 km to liter according to ARAI test. It can be expected that Honda will price their new MPV at around 6.5 to 9 Lakh price bracket.

Honda Releases Their First Mobilio Video In India

Honda Releases Their First Mobilio Video In India

Honda India has rolled up their sleeves and is all set to launch their new MPV Mobilio in the Indian market by the end of July 2014. Recently they have released a video trailer of their new MPV in which you can notice Comedian and Bollywood host Kapil Sharma is describing all the features of the Mobilio in his own unique and funny way.

In this Video Mr. Sharma describes that the Mobilio will be a fuel efficient MPV which will return and amazing fuel economy, it has a spacious cabin and can easily carry 7 adults inside. Mobilio even has enough leg space and looks amazing too.

We definitely agree with Mr. Sharma here the Mobilio MPV indeed looks attractive and because of Honda’s intelligent design it has enough space on the inside and can easily accommodates 7 persons. Based on the Brio platform the Mobilio shares lot of components from the Brio hatch (take the dashboard for example) but there is no doubt about the interior quality and components provided by Honda, and all of them definitely looks premium like what you will find in any other Honda product.

Although we are not yet sure of the exact official specs and figures of the Mobilio yet but we can certainly tell you that this will definitely give a tough competition to its rival Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

Report: Honda India Website Updated With New Images

Honda has recently updated their website with two new images of the Mobilio MPV, both the images that were uploaded are of the MPV exterior. Beside the new images Honda has also added a 360 degree view of the Mobilios interior. The image uploaded clearly shows that the mobilio has body colored bumper completed with fog lamps while the rear shows that it has been fitted with a rear wiper blade. The interior shows that the Mobilio borrowed the Amaze dashboard, seats and even interior trim which is bit disappointing.

Honda will launch their new MPV in the Indian market soon and it will have both diesel and petrol engines options under its hood. It will be powered by a 1.5 liter four cylinder engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox which will produce 119 PS of peak power at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of peak torque at 4600 rpm, this petrol mill is also used by Honda City.
