For those who don’t know yet Honda is actually planning to introduce the City sedan facelift soon. Expect the new City facelift to get some subtle cosmetic updates to its exterior while you can also expect some upgrades made to the interior as well.

Since its introduction the City sedan has been an important product for the Japanese auto manufacturer and after all these years nobody actually has been able to take its spot. Although now it has some tough rivals in the auto industry which include Maruti’s newest sedan the Ciaz. In order to capture the imagination of the diesel motor enthusiasts, Honda introduced the diesel drivetrain under the hood of the City sedan but that was almost two years ago. Now in order to compete with its rivals Honda surely needs to update their existing product.

According to the report Honda has already started testing the City facelift prototype. Codenamed 2GC Honda looks almost set for the new sedan’s launch.

For those who actually thought that the new facelift sedan will get a completely new exterior design will perhaps be bit disappointed because instead of a complete overhaul Honda decided to give it a subtle exterior update.

Expect the facelift sedan to get a completely new grille with chrome inserts on them. While expect the front headlamps and the front bumper to get almost the same design as that of the newly launched Jazz hatchback. This overall front face sticks strictly to Honda’s ‘Exciting H Design’ language. Expect the grille to get blacked out theme as well. Besides all these cosmetic changes the other exterior change might also include a new set of alloy wheels while the overall side profile of this sedan will remain unchanged.

Just like the blacked out front grille you can also expect the pillars of the sedan to get blacked out as well just to add more premium touch to its exterior. As far as the overall dimensions are concerned expect it to remain unchanged however the addition of new bumpers might add a few mm or more to its dimensions.

Although no official details about the interior are available at this moment but you can expect the dashboard to continue with the same glossy black dashboard. The Honda City sedan will also get the touchscreen infotainment system as well. The steering wheel will be the same three spoke multifunctional unit. The other premium features might include an auto climate control system, engine start/stop button, electric sunroof etc.

Do not expect any extra space inside this facelift City sedan’s cabin because it will still share the same platform with the pre-facelift car. But the current car provides an impressive amount of space for the front row passengers expect the second row seats to get the same amount of space. For the comfort of the passengers the facelift City will also get fixed headrest along with armrests too for the rear seat passengers.

The Honda City facelift will be powered by an updated 1.5 Litre, i-VTEC unit which will churn out about 122 Ps of peak power and around 150 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a six speed manual transmission while there will also be a CVT transmission as well offered with this var9iant which is expected to get paddle shifters as well borrowed from the Honda CRV Crossover. Expect the retuned engine to be more fuel efficient and also responsive at the same time.

The diesel variant on the other hand too will use the same 1.5 Liter, four cylinder unit which is capable of producing about 100 Bhp of peak power 200 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a six speed manual transmission.

Definitely the biggest rival of the Honda City is the new Ciaz sedan which was first showcased as a concept at the 2014 Auto expo. The Ciaz sedan definitely shares almost the same dimensions with the City sedan and provides almost the same kind of features as well. Under the hood the Ciaz sedan gets the 1.4 Litre K series petrol engine which produces about 94 Bhp of peak power while the diesel variant is powered by 1.3 litre DDIS Fiat sourced unit which is capable of producing about 89 Bhp of peak power. Both the engines are paired to a 5 speed manual transmission while there is also an automatic transmission on offer as well.

Offcourse the facelift city no doubt will help carry forward the legacy of the City sedan ahead. This has been one of the most popular C-segment sedans of the country and actually has helped Honda to cement their position in the Indian market. The facelift sedan might not bring a lot of change with it but it definitely will help bring some fresh appeal with it until and unless the new generation sedan is launched in the Indian market.

We will definitely update you with more details as soon as they are available with us about this soon to be launched facelift sedan.
