The Honda Accord is a four door sedan from the Japanese manufacturer. Worldwide, the nameplate has been applied to coupe, wagon, hatchback and crossover cars as well. When it was on sale in India, it was available only in the sedan form. The car also had quite a considerable success in the United States. It was also one of the best-selling Japanese car in the U.S. for 15 years from 1982 to 1997.
In the early 1970s, Honda was in a crisis and were about to pull out of the automobile market. However, when they launched the Civic, it went on to become a success. They then decided to build a larger version of the car and it was called the Accord. Accord stands for “Honda’s desire for accord and harmony between the people, the society and the automobile”.The first accord was launched on May 7th 1976 as a 3-door hatchback and as a 4-door sedan the following year. The Honda Accord that is currently on sale is in its ninth generation now.
In India, the Accord was launched in 2001 but even though it was a good car, the sales never took off, especially for the V6 model. 13 years later, in early 2014, Honda pulled the plug on the Accord due to dwindling sales.
The Japanese manufacturer has launched the 2016 Honda Accord in Mountain View, California. This is the first time that Honda has launched a car in the Silicon Valley, the U.S. tech hub. The car will go on sale globally in August and it is also expected to be put on sale in India next year. The car comes with a host of new equipments and safety features.
Honda has decided to reintroduce the Accord in the Indian market again in the year 2016 and they though to go full hybrid this time. The is the ninth generation facelift model which not only gets sharper exterior and interior features but also gets a 2.0L Atkinson VTEC engine and also two electric motors.There are even three different drive modes as well which makes driving even more fun.

The exterior of the 2016 Accord gets a major facelift. The car gets new front end and a new rear. This includes a new front bumper and also a completely new rear bumper.as well
Towards the front the Accord Hybrid gets a redesigned futuristic and sharper automatic LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and stretched back LED tail lamps. Furthermore the updated front profile also gets a new grille with a thick chrome bar and LED fog lamps. A new aluminium bonnet with sharp lines gives the sedan an aggressive look. The side profile has a sharp line running from the front fenders to the rear door handle and new stylish 19 inch alloy wheels. The car has an aggressive and sporty stance as well. Towards the side profile the Accord Hybrid gets these stylish 18 inch wheels which definitely gives the sedan the upmarket styling.
The rear profile gets a chrome bar which connects the tail lights and twin exhaust pipes and another thinner bar above the exhaust pipes on the bumper connecting the reflectors.

The interiors of the new Honda Accord is largely similar to that of the older model. It gets a few cosmetic changes like re-arrangement of buttons and an updated larger 7 inch touchscreen which comes with advanced audio system that supports Apple CarPlay and also Android Auto. The interior also gets a multi functional steering wheel as well which gets these simple switches to control the various functions inside the cabin. For the comfort of the passengers the Accord Hybrid also gets i-Dual Zone Climate Control with Plasma Cluster which can adjust the temperature and also the air volume based on the strength and direction of the sunlight. The sedan also gets an ivory shaped colour plush leather upholstery. .
Some other features available include remote engine start on the automatic variants, HD Radio, Sirius XM satellite radio, Homelink remote, heated rear seats, 60:40 split folding rear seats and rain sensing windshield wipers.
The 2016 Honda Accord will be offered with two engine options. The smaller engine will be a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder i-VTEC engine developing 185 HP and 245 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic Continuous Variable Transmission. The larger engine will be a 3.5 litre VTEC V6 producing 278 HP and 342 Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Just like the 2015 Honda CR-V, the 2016 Honda Accord comes with advanced safety features and driver assist technologies in one package called the Honda Sensing. It includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
Along with Honda Sensing, the 2016 model of the sedan also gets Multi-Angle rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, Expanded View Driver’s Mirror and auto high beam headlights to enhance nigh time visibility which automatically switches to low beam when a vehicle coming in the opposite direction is detected.

The Toyota Camry is another popular sedan from the Japanese manufacturer. The Camry was first launched in 1979 as the Celica Camry and in 1982 the Camry became an independent model. In India, the Camry is available in two variants; a petrol and a hybrid.
The hybrid is powered by a 2.5 litre petrol engine producing 158 HP and 213 Nm of torque. It works in conjunction with a 650 Volt motor generator producing 141 HP and 270 Nm of torque. Together the hybrid system puts out 202 HP. The powertrain is mated to an E-CVT (Electronically – Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission). The car rides on 17 inch tyres.
The other variant is powered by the same 2.5 litre petrol engine but now it produces 178 HP and 233 Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 6-speed Automatic with Sequential Shift. The car rides on 16 inch tyres.
The petrol variant of the Toyota Camry costs INR 28.80 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the hybrid variant costs INR 31.92 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Skoda Superb is a large family sedan from the Czech manufacturer and it was introduced to the world in 2001. The model on sale in India is the second generation model. The third generation was launched during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to be launched in the country later this year or early next year. The car is known for its spaciousness and for the leg room it offers. The Superb that is currently on sale in India is powered by a 1.8 litre petrol engine or a 2.0 diesel engine. The car rides on 16 inch wheels.
The petrol engine produces 158 HP and 250 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The diesel engine produces 138 HP and 320 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.
The Skoda Superb costs INR 21.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol engine car with a manual transmission. The automatic variant will cost you INR 23.30 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The diesel Superb will cost INR 26.25 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
With the 2016 model of the Accord, Honda has concentrated more on new technologies and safety features to make it more tech savvy. The new design gives the Accord a more aggressive and a futuristic look. This Honda sedan has always been one the best selling cars globally and the new car will definitely continue to sell in good numbers considering the upgrades it has got. But in India, this time around, hopefully Honda manages to sell many more units. The Accord is a brilliant car and it deserves a good success rate. From the looks of it, the sedan will succeed in the country especially as the premium cars segment in booming in India. But then again, the Accord might lose out due to the lack of a diesel engine in the line-up.
