Honda officially discontinues the Mobilio from India
After its disappointing sales performance for the past one year or so Honda Cars India Limited was forced to take the harsh decision, they finally did stop selling the Mobilio MPV in India. The Mobilio was even taken down from their official website which confirmed the news.
To everyone’s surprise, the Mobilio MPV was a new model launched back only in the year 2014. The car was launched to take on its biggest rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which was selling like hot pancakes back then. During the time of its introduction and even after a year of its launch the MPV was selling in real numbers, it even went on to beat its rivals. However, the increasing popularity of the SUV’s and decreasing demand of MPV cars recently could also be one the primary reasons for its poor sales figures.
The Mobilio was a relatively large car which underpinned the same platform that also supported the Amaze and the Brio. This MPV sourced its power from the same 1.5 Litre petrol and diesel engine which powers the City sedan. Honda even launched a sportier version of the MPV called the Mobilio RS to attract more attention of the customers and also to increase the falling sales figures. Although the standard MPV hasn’t received any updates since its launch, the RS variant did get few cosmetic updates in the form of a sportier front and rear bumpers and a spoiler, but it still was not enough.
According to HCIL because of the decline in the personal use of MPV segment, they have decided not to sell the Mobilio in Indian market anymore. However, Honda will ensure the availability of spare parts for their existing customers while the dealers will also continue the service of the current cars.
could this mean that Honda will perhaps be relaunching the new Civic once again?
Yes! I too have the same question in my mind. What is this new generation Civic doing at the Honda’s factory in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Now according to the reports on India today there is a possibility of Honda launching the new generation Civic in India within this year. The Civic introduced in 2006 and later discontinued in 2013 due to weak sales numbers. One of the leading causes of such poor sales figures was the lack of a diesel engine option.
Now that the new Civic was spotted recently at the Tapukara facility in Rajasthan could it mean that Honda is planning to relaunch the sedan in the Indian market once again?
The bigger engine will get an advanced 10 speed automatic transmission
Honda has released a new teaser image of their tenth generation Accord which will launch later this year. There is no doubt in the fact that the Accord has been the number one choice for individual American car buyers since 2010.
The new generation Accord will also get two new turbocharged petrol engines in the form of 1.5 Litre, direct-injected DOHC Turbo with dual variable cam timing (dual VTC)-litre and a 2.0-litre unit. Both engines will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox Moreover the 1.5 Litre unit will also get an optional CVT gearbox, while the 2.0 Litre unit will get an advanced 10-speed automatic gearbox.
The sedan will be launched first in the US where it has been the best seller in the midsize sedan segment for four straight years (2013-2016). For the first five months of 2017, according to the Sales Data, the Accord is still the top-selling midsize sedan in America and the second best-selling passenger car overall.

The WR-V is the smallest Crossover from Honda which will launch in the Indian market and will be positioned above the existing hatchback.
Honda has already started the production of this Crossover at their Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Hopefully, this new Crossover will be able to bring some sales numbers for the company because apart from the City and the Amaze none of the Honda products was actually able to impress the Indian crowd.
Coming to the WR-V, the Crossover looks exactly like the Jazz hatchback besides few additional changes that we usually witness in a hatchback based Crossover. The company was not able to sell even a single unit of this MPV last month
It might come to many as a shock, but Honda has discontinued their only MPV offering Mobilio from the Indian market due to poor sales figures and demand. They will also decide within the next two months whether they will bring back the new version of the entry-level people mover or not.
The reports also suggest that the Japanese car maker has stopped manufacturing the vehicle and exhausted all their current stocks. Honda launched the Mobilio MPV back in July 2014, and it evidently impressed the crowd with its clean exterior and interior and even managed to outsell its biggest rival the Maruti Ertiga in India soon after its launch. Until now Honda was able to sell a total of 40, 789 units till date but the demand for the people mover declined slowly, and last month Honda was not able to sell even a single unit of this MPV.
The Honda officials said that they are still thinking and taking a decision on whether they will launch the facelifted model in the Country or not. India will implement the new safety regulations soon, and the current Mobilio does not match the safety confrontations. So to continue the sale of the vehicle the company needs to invest a lot of money to modify the car to make it compliant with the norms.
Now, the new car is already available for sale in the markets of Indonesia the company is thus still wondering whether to launch the facelifted car in India or not. The Mobilio was developed entirely at Honda’s R&D facility in Bangkok and was for sale exclusively for the Asian markets. During the time of the launch, the car was priced in between INR. 6.49 lakhs to INR. 10.49 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The current prices of the base variant of the Mobilio rose to INR 7.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) presently.

However, call it the end of their long lifecycle, their much-ahead-of-the-time or their ill fate of not being received with open hands, most of these globally hit cars died off after a time frame.
