Ford has made lot of progress in the Indian market since they launched the Ecosport in the year 2013, the compact SUV became so popular amongst the crowd that it even had a waiting period of 6 months.

But India’s most popular and the most competitive segment got to be its hatchback segment and every other manufacturer has atleast one or two product in this segment to compete with the rest. Maruti Suzuki dominated the segment with their affordable and feature pact products but in the recent years many other manufacturers like Hyundai, Chevrolet and Datsun too has taken a fair share of the game. The American Auto manufacturer Ford who launched their Figo hatch based on their European Fiesta platform way back in the year 2010 became the most popular car of that respective year and won many prestigious awards including the Indian car of the year 2010. Ford has particularly designed this car keeping in mind the requirements of Indian consumer’s but as time went by and stiff competition in the Indian hatchback segment forced Ford to go back to their drawing boards and launch a facelift version of Figo in the year 2012.

The facelift Figo came with a large hexagonal front grille and redesigned head and tail lamps. 2013 November Ford unveiled a global small car concept and christened it as KA in Brazil. The KA concept came with a sleeker and bold designed front. This particular concept was also showcased at the 2014; auto expo in Delhi and received positive response from the people.

Nothing much has actually changed in the new Figo hatchback and this production variant of the hatch looks similar to the KA concept.

Ford launched the Figo hatchback in India after they introduced the Figo Aspire compact sedan which actually uses the same platform and even the engines. Ford has launched the Figo hatch with an option of 2 petrol and single diesel engine. The more powerful petrol engine even gets an automatic transmission as well which is really good news. The fuel efficiency figures of these engines are quite satisfactory as well which actually also is a concern for many owners.

The Figo hatch surely looks way better than its predecessor and surely also packs many interesting features as well.

This does seem to be a favorable time to introduce a small MPV, given the success of the Ertiga and that Honda too entering the fray. Powering the Ford MPV could be the same powerplants as the Figo with the 1.4-liter Duratorq being among the favorites.

Ford Unveils the Ka Concept

Ford Unveils the Ka Concept

Many who’ll begin to read this article will wonder why is the Ford Ka Concept, an upcoming hatchback built for the South American market, important to us. Well, what you see above is a concept that gives perfect insight of the next-gen Ford Figo, one of India’s best selling vehicles. And, if the Figo is going to look anything like the Ka Concept it will be a notable departure in the design front. In a good way.

The 2015 Ford Ka/Figo is based on Ford’s B2E platform that is shared with the previous Figo and the Fiesta Classic. As is Ford’s current design trend, the Ka Concept comes with the trapezoidal "Aston-Martin" grille that gives the front fascia a stretched Aston Martin Cygnet sort of look. The headlamps are totally new and are much bigger than the previous iteration. The bumper and tail-lamps are in line with the design of Ford’s top hatchback, the Fiesta. The wheelbase also looks to be stretched slightly to increase cabin space.

Ford hasn’t divulged any details about the tech under the hood. Expect a detuned version of the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine making its way into the engine lineup. They’re also planning it to rebadge it as the Figo for the Indian market with a launch speculated at around end of 2014 or beginning of 2015. With the EcoSport grabbing all the attention and the bookings, Ford has managed to stabilize itself in the market. But with the new Figo coming next year, Ford might hold a candle next to brands like Hyundai, Maruti-Suzukimin terms of sales figures. They have a another real winner in their hands, considering they price it well.
