Ford Ecosport Facelift Caught Testing On Indian Road: Video

The updated SUV is expected to launch towards the festive season

Motorworld India was able to get the first video of the all new facelift Ford Ecosport while it was being tested on the Indian road. The reports state that the SUV will launch in India towards the end of this year and for all your information this is not exactly a new generation model but is a facelift that Ford has given to their popular compact SUV.

Now, there were not exactly one but two different test mules which were caught testing at the same time. While both the test mules were wrapped in heavy camouflage, the changes that the compact SUV received was quite evident. Both the test mules had received the same changes that the new facelift Ecosport had received when it was first unveiled Infront of the public at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto show.

The facelift Ecosport now features a redesigned trapezoidal grille towards the front; the headlamp design is also new and gets integrated LED daytime running lamps. The redesigned front bumper now gets bigger triangular fog lights. Towards the rear, it gets a redesigned taillamps as well. The wheel design is also new. The facelift Ecosport still retains the tailgate mounted spare wheel which also gets a body coloured wheel cover as well.

Just like the exterior the interior too will get a complete overhaul as well. Although the interior of this test mule was not visible the facelift Ecosport did receive a new three-spoke steering wheel; the redesigned dashboard now will house Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system or perhaps will get the system from the current generation SUV. Apart from that, the seats will also be redesigned as well, and it will also get a new instrument cluster.

On the other hand, the Nissan Micra lost the first spot because of 1% declined in their export in the last fiscal. Maruti Suzuki Alto has seen a massive rise of 73% exports in last fiscal year with 54656 units of export. With 29540 units of export Hyundai Xcent saw a 48% rise in the export sales. It has been mixed pictures for the Hyundai, as the Grand i10 lost 30% of its export sales compare to the previous 2014 – 2015 fiscal years export. Hey, the Ford Ecosport is talking to you: Video

Ford unique treat to grab attention

Ford EcoSport is a very popular compact SUV in India market. People like it for its compactness, style, off-roading capability and feature stuffed interior. But, have you ever heard of a Ford EcoSport talking to people? Probably not! In Australia, recently an all new Ford EcoSport was found talking to the pedestrians, and it also welcomed them to have a sit inside and call any celebrity the person would like to. Pretty amazing indeed, right?

Well, it was not a real talking car, but a trick played by Ford Australia and Anil Desai, who is a comedian and impressionist. Ford EcoSport gets power from both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant of the car gets dual engine options. One is a 1.0 litre Ecoboost paired with a 5 speed manual transmission churning out 125 PS peak power and 170 NM peak torque. Other variant gets a 1.5 litre unit mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox kicking out 112 PS peak power and 140 Nm peak torque. The petrol tom trim is available with 6 speed dual clutch PowerShift automatic gearbox as well. On the other hand the diesel variant is available with a 1.5 litre unit which is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission churning out 100 PS peak power and 230 Nm peak torque. Ford Drops A Bomb! Slashes Ecosport prices

Ford Drops A Bomb! Slashes Ecosport prices

Is this their big step to compete with newly launched Vitara Brezza

Ford surely did drop a bomb by reducing the prices of their only compact SUV offering Ecosport in India. So now that the Ford Ecosport prices starts at INR. 6,68, 800(ex showroom Delhi) for the base 1.5L Petrol unit, while the base diesel prices of Ecosport starts at INR 728,800. Now compared to the Vitara Brezza whose base diesel prices starts at INR. 6.99 Lakhs (ex showroom Delhi), which leaves a price difference of INR 29,800 which is really impressive.

Now do we need to explain again the reason behind Ford reducing the prices of the Ecosport? It is quite obviously because of the arrival of the newest rival Maruti Vitara Brezza. Ford launched the Ecosport compact SUV back in the year 2013 and it definitely was one of the most popular cars of the Indian market since its launch. Recently in the year 2016, the Ecosport received some minor cosmetic updates too. The updated Ecosport gets LED DRL’s, push button start, leather seats covers, an advanced car connectivity system which gets Sync with Apple Link system. For the safety of the passengers inside Ford has provided 6 airbags inside and also an emergency call assist feature. However the talks are that Ford will be launching the facelift compact SUV most probably towards the beginning of next year.

From the very beginning the Ecosport was available with petrol as well diesel engine options under its hood and recently it has received some major boost of power in the diesel drivetrain. So the new 1.5 Litre diesel unit is now capable of producing about 98 BHp of peak power and an impressive 215 Nm of torque. The Vitara Brezza on the other hand produces about 90 Ps of peak power and 200 Nm of torque.

The extra power, enhances safety features, styling gives the Ford Ecosport an extra edge over the Maruti Vitara Brezza for sure now its upto Maruti on how they actually take on their greatest rival.

OVERVIEW 2015 Ford Ecosport

2015 Ford Ecosport

I still remember how we all were eagerly waiting for the compact SUV from Ford to arrive on our Indian shores and after a long delay and wait finally! The Ecosport was launched in the month of June 2013. Back then there were not much contenders to actually compete with the newest offering from Ford except the Renault Duster and because the Ecosport came with fresh new aggressive looks and well proportioned exterior it started selling in huge numbers and which actually helped Ford to recover their lost market shares and position.

Now that was 2013, step forward to 2015 and you have a lot of things to cheer about as a customer who is actually planning to own a compact SUV because quite honestly there are plenty of options available now. You can get your hands on either the trusty old Renault Duster or Nissan Terrano or if you are running on tight budget you could definitely look for the hatchback turned crossovers like Toyota Etios, the stylish Fiat Avventura or the Hyundai i20 Cross and perhaps many other. So where the Ecosport does stands in 2015?

There is no doubt in the fact that It is still one popular product in this segment that no one can deny but when you have got plenty of competition around you it is best to bring in an updated model to keep things fresh and rub shoulders with your rivals. That is what exactly Ford is planning to do they have already showcased a special edition Ecosport S at the 2015, Geneva Auto show which came with many new updates but apart from that Ford has also launched an updated Ecosport for the UK markets which comes without a spare wheel at the rear as an option and many more new interior features.

2016 Ford Ecosport Rendered To Perfection

Ford will be launching the facelift Ecosport in the year 2016 in the International market and it is expected to get a completely new styling. The Ecosport which is an International product from the stable of Ford is also sold in some other markets of the world besides India which by the way also happens to be one of the popular markets for this compact SUV.

Recently, autossegredos has presented a rendering of the upcoming facelift Ecosport and as you can see from the image that the compact SUV looks even more stunning in the image. Towards the front you can notice huge Trapezoidal grille which gets chrome finished slats, while the headlamps in particular gets projector units, moreover these projector units has also been finished in square shape. What we really loved are the smaller detailing made towards the front take the L shaped fog lamps for example placed inside the enclosure. The lower lip too gets the air vents which add an aggressive feel to the front. However there are not many changes made towards the side profile except the new stylish alloy wheels.

There is no doubt in the fact that the Ecosport is the best selling product from Ford in the Indian market and it is also exported to almost 40 other countries too from here. Expect the facelift Ecosport to be launched in the Indian market sometimes next year and although it will receive some significant cosmetic upgrades but do not expect any changes under the hood. The facelift compact SUV will be powered by the same 1.5-liter petrol and the diesel engines, and offcourse! The popular 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine.

Ford Recalls 20,752 units Of Ecosport In India

Ford Recalls 20,752 units Of Ecosport In India

These recalls are really becoming a part and parcel of our daily life. Ford India recently recalled 20, 752 units of their Ecosport compact SUV which were manufactured in between the time period of January 2013 and September 2014.

Ford has recalled these compact SUV’s to mend an issue related to fuel and vapor line corrosion in long term. Beside that the auto manufacturer will also check and reposition the wiring of the passenger side airbag so that the side airbags is deployed correctly in time of an emergency. The customers can remain worry free because Ford is taking all the effort to connect with the customers personally and thus there is no micro website put up yet where the customers can check whether their vehicle are also a part of this recall process or not. Now remember Ford also manufacturers the same Ecosport SUV for other markets globally in India itself and thus they will also be inspecting 40,000 units of the compact SUV manufactured in between the same time period for any faults.

Ford has also recently recalled about 3, 274 units of their Fiesta diesel sedan in India also for solving the issue with the waterproof ’glow plug control module’.

For those who personally want to find out whether their compact SUV is affected or not, can directly visit their Ford dealers and check and replace the components at entirely free of costs.

Facelift Ford Ecosport Spotted Testing

Facelift Ford Ecosport Spotted Testing

This is definitely the most popular and loved compact SUV of our market and I am sure many of you keep waiting for any new updates about this Compact SUV from the stable of the Blue oval logo owner Ford.

Finally! There is some good news for all of you; recently the facelift Ecosport was caught being tested on the European roads, this global vehicle which was caught being tested has actually loosed its popular spare wheel mounted at the back. Now many liked the rear mounted spare wheel because it gave a strong and rugged appearance to the SUV while other more practical users already hated it because instead of the vehicles compact size the spare wheel increased its overall length and it was not possible to fit the Ecosport in tighter parking spaces specially considering the problem of finding a proper parking space in the urban areas. But the advantage of the spare wheel mounted at the rear of the car was that the owners enjoyed an impressive 346 litres of boot space even at the rear of this compact vehicle but now that the spare wheel has been removed from the rear of the vehicle then it will surely be stacked at the boot of the car which actually means that the owners will have to sacrifice some of the boot space for sure.

From the spy images it is not yet clear what else Ford has actually changed towards the rear of the SUV but surely removing the bulky spare wheel from the rear means that the rear door hinges will now last even longer and moreover deleting the spare wheel will also mean better rear visibility for the driver while reversing the vehicle.

Ford EcoSport Gets Daytime-Running Lamp As Option

Ford EcoSport Gets Daytime-Running Lamp As Option

Ford has added a new item to the options list of the EcoSport. Now customers can spice up their compact crossovers with "Signature" daytime running lights. DRLs have become quite popular in recent times, a trend which began with Audis and BMW’s corona headlights.

There are loads of aftermarket options available to buyers as well. But, unlike the aftermarket ones, the ones on the EcoSport are a standard part of the models sold in the international markets. Hyundai ix25 (Ecosport rival) images leaked ahead of 2014 Beijing Auto show

Hyundai ix25 (Ecosport rival) images leaked ahead of 2014 Beijing Auto show

Like I said in my previous post about Hyundai, the Korean car make is on a roll as far as India is concerned. The year 2014 has already seen the launch of the Santa Fe, Grand i10, Xcent and soon we might have the Hyundai ix25 compact crossover. This is the model touted to take on the Ford EcoSport.

The Hyundai ix25 is schedule to debut at the 2014, Beijing International Auto show, and an Italian blog recently posted an image of the car with a familiar Hyundai face and stylish exterior. This could be the Hyundai ix25 that we’ve all have been waiting for.

The compact SUV is underpinned by the same platform that makes up the new Hyundai i20. This premium hatchback is also destined to enter the Indian market. According to Autocar, the ix25 could also use the same powerplant as the i20. So, we could expect a 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter petrol engine along with the 1.4-liter diesel.

Hyundai has a huge market share in India. The introduction of the ix25 would certainly play spoilsport for Ford. All of a sudden, customers will have another stylish looking compact SUV to consider.

Europe gets more safer version of the Ecosport

Europe gets more safer version of the Ecosport

The Ford EcoSport will go on sale in Europe this June. Starting with UK, Ford will launch the EcoSport compact crossover in Germany and Austria followed by the rest of Europe. What’s interesting however is that Ford Europe will import the cars from India. For that, Ford had to go through the ardous homologation process which meant putting the Ecosport through some grueling tests at the hands of Euro NCAP.

Now, the Euro-spec EcoSport will be considerably different compared to the one sold here in India. The Euro NCAP safety norms are among the toughest in the world and hence the EcoSport’s superstructure will be made stiffer in order to improve the crash worthiness of the vehicle. The European Ecosport will also get airbags, ABS, ESP, etc. as standard. The cars have also been tested for pedestrian safety.

Another major change that the Euro-spec EcoSport will undergo concerns the rear tail gate. For left hand drive markets, the hinges will be switched to the opposite side, so that the gate opens away from the curb. As far as its powetrains are concerned, Ford will be looking at the 1.0-liter EcoBoost as one of the most popular engines. However the all-wheel drive version of the compact crossover won’t make it to Europe.

You can take a look at the detailed report published by Euro-NCAP on the following link.

Mahindra-Ssangyong together planning a new Ecosport rival

Mahindra-Ssangyong together planning a new Ecosport rival

Ford launched the Ecosport in the year 2013 and it became an instant hit. Mahindra too tried to impress the Indian consumers with their compact SUV Quanto but it was nowhere close to Ecosport’s popularity. So Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) along with Ssangyong motors are working together to build a new compact SUV codenamed as the S102 to take on their biggest competitor.

The S102 will be based on the Ssangyong X100 and perhaps will be launched globally by end of the year 2015 or 2016 beginning. What is even more interesting is that both these companies are also working on developing a brand new engine which will power this new compact SUV. The new engine unit will compete directly against Ford’s World renowned 1.0 Liter Ecoboost engine. If everything goes according to their plan the new engine will also deliver an impressive amount of power while returning an excellent fuel efficiency at the same time.

Mahindra is also planning to launch a new vehicle which could be a MPV or a crossover; this vehicle will be based on the X100 platform and compete directly against the other MPV’s which are present in the Indian market. The company made a steady progress already and sourced a new automatic transmission which will be used in both the manufacturer’s products. The joint sourcing has proved to be beneficial for both the companies and it even has helped them to save 5 to 7 percent on the material cost.

We wish both the manufacturers good luck and hope that their new products can easily win many hearts when it is launched finally in this Country.

If you are planning to buy a Ford Ecosport compact SUV this new year then you might think of other options as well because Ford India once again hiked the prices of their compact SUV for the second time in a row since its launch in June 2013, we have seen Ford hiked the prices of the Ecosport last year September by a minimum of 22 thousand Rupees depending on the variant.

The new price range became effective from January 1st 2014, what is even more disappointing is that Ford has also stopped taking bookings of the Ecosport for the time being and will start taking new bookings for the compact SUV only after they complete the deliveries for the waiting list of their customers.

Ford Builds the 2 Millionth EcoBoost Engine

Ford Builds the 2 Millionth EcoBoost Engine

Looks the folks at the Blue Oval have something really exciting to celebrate, after Ford announced that they’ve assembled the 2,000,000th (yeah, that many zeroes) EcoBoost engine, since it began production in 2009. The now-famous motor is currently planted on a Ford Escape that is bound to roll out of their plant in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Now, because of the rising popularity of Ford’s EcoBoost engine, after its little 1.0-liter motor garnered many awards, Ford currently builds an average of 100,000 EcoBoost engines every month, which has overtaken the production of diesel engines alone, for the first time.

India is also blessed with the presence of the 1.0-Liter EcoBoost engine, that is under the EcoSport’s hood. Sadly though, Ford has currently stopped taking orders for the EcoSport 1.0-liter variant since there is a huge demand for it that has created a large backlog of orders. Do understand that Ford doesn’t assemble the EcoBoost engine in Chennai but get it imported from their plant in Cologne, Germany. And, to clear the backlog of orders, Ford has decided to double up the production to a 1000 units per day.

To evenly distribute the workload of supplying the engines to all its markets, a Ford plant in Changan, China will also start producing the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

In short then, Ford’s sweat and tears that have gone into developing the EcoBoost have finally paid off. Big time.

Ford India Hikes Prices of its Lineup

Ford India Hikes Prices of its Lineup

The economic crunch faced by the Indian market has resulted in the price hike of various commodities, and automobiles are no exception. This tricky situation has compelled Ford India to finally announce a price rise for its line-up, since the input cost too has risen. Ford has increased the prices from 1 to 5 percent, depending on different models, which has come in to effect since 5th September, 2013.

Ford India has not yet disclosed any details regarding the matter. The line-up includes the compact car Figo, the popular sedan car Fiesta and the recently launched and highly popular SUV, the EcoSport.

The company however has revealed that there are many factors that has come into play that forced them to hike the prices like increase in interest rates and the decrease in the value of rupees. The input costs have risen and is expected to keep rising for an indefinite period. Ouch.

Mahindra Quanto VS Premier Rio

Mahindra Quanto VS Premier Rio

The Quanto was Mahindra’s first entry into the compact SUV segment, which was launched in the year 2012. From what we can say, it’s basically a Xylo that was put in-front of a shrink ray, with sub-4 meters set as its size.

Then there’s the brand that doesn’t really make a news headline or raises a question mark on people’s face. The Premier Rio, which is also a sub-4 meter SUV from Premiers’ stable which is powered by the great Fiat Multijet engine.

Recently, Ford introduced the much hyped Ecosport compact SUV that, Ford thinks, would obliterate the compact SUV segment. And we agree that it will as there is such a huge demand for the vehicle, which has forced Ford to stop taking for a short period of time. So does it mean that the Mahindra Quanto and the not-so-popular Premier Rio is thrown into the dark after the launch of this Ford Ecosport?

Let’s find out whether the Premier and Mahindra are capable of competing with the much hyped Ford Ecosport or not? We will be discussing and will provide complete details of the above mentioned compact SUV and find out which is our clear winner here.

High Demand for Ecosport Compels Ford India to Halt its Bookings

High Demand for Ecosport Compels Ford India to Halt its Bookings

Ever since Ford India had confirmed the arrival of the Ecosport, we saw it coming. But, we never expected the demand to be so huge that it required them to stop the bookings of some of the variants. This might be sad news for people who are intent on placing an order.

A spokesperson from the company had revealed that the ever-extending waiting period on certain variants was alarming, which is why the company had to stop accepting bookings. He however did not specify any details regarding the matter and no booking backlog was shared.

The stopping of the booking of the SUV variants shall differ from one dealership to another. So far, every dealer has stopped the bookings of different trims as well as fuel variants of the SUV.

Given the fact that the Ecosport, has garnered around 30,000 bookings within a time span of 17 days, it is clear that Ford Ecosport has already gained immense popularity across the country, which is certainly not good news for its rival, the Renault Duster.

Ford EcoSport caught testing. Details reviled

The soon to be launched Ford EcoSport compact SUV has been seen testing close to Chennai. The production model doesn’t seem to be very different to the concept that was globally unveiled in India at the New Delhi Auto Expo in January. The production version however doesn’t seem to have the LED’s like on the concept but the interiors have a big influence from the Ford B-Max and the Fiesta.

The EcoSport is built on Ford’s global compact car platform which has been developed in association with Mazda and this is the same platform that the new Fiesta uses. The mini SUV is expected to be priced between Rs7.5 to Rs 9.5lakh. The production model will have a wheelbase of 2490mm and compared to the concept the width of the EcoSport has been increased to 1750mm while the height has been reduced by 30mm.

The EcoSport is Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global product which the manufacturer hopes will help it expand its footprint in the world’s developing auto markets, like India. The EcoSport is the second of eight products Ford plans to bring to India and the manufacturer is expected to invest US$ 2 billion in the development and production of the new vehicles.
