Ford Fiesta premium hatchback will sit above the Ford Figo in Indian market
Ford Motor Company might be one of the largest and oldest players in the world automotive arena, but in India the company has been struggling to get a strong grip of the market. In recent times the company has seen a surge in sales thanks to the popularity of the Ford EcoSport. Later on the American automaker launched the all new Ford Figo hatchback, Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan and the Ford Endeavour, which has become immense popular in very short span.
Now inspired with the recent success the company is planning to introduce the Ford Fiesta premium hatchback, which will be positioned above the Ford Figo. The car would take on the premium hatchbacks like Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz in Indian market. Compare to the old model of the Ford Fiesta the upcoming model will be longer and spacious, and it will bear more features inside the cabin.

The 2018 Ford Fiesta will sport a bit larger appearance, which will help it to be positioned in the premium hatchback segment with better space offering to the occupants. The front fascia of the car will sport sharp wrap around headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The headlamps have become larger than the outgoing model, as the spyshot suggests. The spyshot of the car suggests it will sport a shorter and wider front radiator grille. The lower fascia will sport a sporty appearance with the lip, and the air intake will be positioned a bit higher. Expect the hood to come with sharp creases running toward the nose section, therefore making it muscular.
At the side profile, the car would come with sleek character lines running just behind the front fenders to the taillamps. The waistline is slightly running upward toward the rear. The prototype spotted testing was running on 17 inch alloy wheels, which would be available with the ST variant of the upcoming Ford Fiesta. It is not sure, whether Ford will launch the ST version of the Fiesta in Indian market or not.
Move to the Rear profile, 2018 the Ford Fiesta bears the similar wrap around taillamps like the outgoing model. The taillamps are placed more horizontally rather than vertically. Incidentally, in the outgoing Ford Fiesta the taillamps are positioned vertically. The rear profile also sports a roof spoiler with high mounted stop lamp. The rear bumper might come in a beefy appearance.
Among the Ford Fiesta’s rivals the Honda Jazz, the Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai Elite i20, all these three cars sport extremely stylish appearance. The Hyundai Elite i20 is undoubtedly the most elegant looking car among all, while the Volkswagen Polo is sporty sleek and stylish. Although the interior of the upcoming Ford Fiesta is yet to be revealed, but expect the premium hatchback to offer plenty of features and comfortable journey experience to the occupants. Expect the car to offer more space than the Ford Figo. Up front it will sport a multifunction steering wheel, a sleek instrument cluster. The centre console would be similar looking with the Ford Figo, and it would surely get a touchscreen infotainment system. Expect the dashboard and the interior to come in a sporty black theme. Among the rivals all the three cars come offering enough space, loads of upmarket features and a comfortable premium interior. Honda Jazz among the fray offers a bit more space than the others.
The 2018 Ford Fiesta will be available in both the petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant would be powered by a 1.0 litre three cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine which is already very popular under the hood of the Ford EcoSport in India. This engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and churn out 120 hp of peak power and 112 Nm of peak torque. There could be a 6 speed automatic gearbox as option as well.
On the diesel front the car will be powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder TDCi diesel engine which would be paired with the same 5 speed manual gearbox. Although presently the Ford Fiesta is available in some other engine options like 1.25 litre, 1.6 litre engine; but those engine might get discontinued in the 2018 Ford Fiesta.
The Honda Jazz is powered by a 1.5 litre diesel unit under the hood which generates 100 hp of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The petrol variant is available with a 1.2 litre unit. Hyundai Elite i20 on the other hand is powered by a 1.2 litre Kappa petrol engine with VVT technology. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and churns out 83 hp of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The Hyundai Elite i20 is available in a diesel variant as well, which is powered by a 1.4 litre CRDi engine paired with 6 speed manual transmission and kicks out 88 hp of peak power and 219 Nm of peak torque. The Volkswagen Polo is one of the most popular cars available in Indian market. The peppy engine under the hood is a big reason behind the popularity of this car. The car is available in different engine options. The petrol variant is available in two different engine options which are a 1.2 litre unit and a 1.5 litre unit, while the diesel variant is available with a 1.5 litre TDI engine.
