2015 Ford Ecosport
I still remember how we all were eagerly waiting for the compact SUV from Ford to arrive on our Indian shores and after a long delay and wait finally! The Ecosport was launched in the month of June 2013. Back then there were not much contenders to actually compete with the newest offering from Ford except the Renault Duster and because the Ecosport came with fresh new aggressive looks and well proportioned exterior it started selling in huge numbers and which actually helped Ford to recover their lost market shares and position.
Now that was 2013, step forward to 2015 and you have a lot of things to cheer about as a customer who is actually planning to own a compact SUV because quite honestly there are plenty of options available now. You can get your hands on either the trusty old Renault Duster or Nissan Terrano or if you are running on tight budget you could definitely look for the hatchback turned crossovers like Toyota Etios, the stylish Fiat Avventura or the Hyundai i20 Cross and perhaps many other. So where the Ecosport does stands in 2015?
There is no doubt in the fact that It is still one popular product in this segment that no one can deny but when you have got plenty of competition around you it is best to bring in an updated model to keep things fresh and rub shoulders with your rivals. That is what exactly Ford is planning to do they have already showcased a special edition Ecosport S at the 2015, Geneva Auto show which came with many new updates but apart from that Ford has also launched an updated Ecosport for the UK markets which comes without a spare wheel at the rear as an option and many more new interior features.
Ford recently introduced the revised varint of the Ford Ecosport in India during festive season . Although bthe changes made to the compact SUV are minimum but these small c hanges has given the Ecosport a new lease of life for few more years untill Ford does not launch the new generation Ecosport.
The exterior styling of this compact SUV has not changed much though and although the same compact SUV has recieved few cosmetic updates which incluides the absence of the spare wheel towards the rear and new set of alloy wheels but our Indian spec car has not recieved any major cosmetic upgrades to its exterior. Howeveer the Ecoasport gets some mechanical upgrades under its hood.

The Ecosport is already a good looking suv and Ford knows that very well and that is also the reason why they have not messed with the overall looks of the compact SUV instead they have decided to update the car with few additional details. The front fascia of the compact SUV gets signature light guide, moreover the Ecosport also gets daytime running lamps as well while the fog lamps ups its premium appeal towards the front.
Ford will continue selling the facelift Ecosport in India with the rear mounted spare wheel so we Indians won’t be getting any options. Perhaps this is a bold move from Ford because most of the Indian like to own the Ecosport with the spare mounted wheel at the rear. The rest of the exterior styling will remain unchanged though.
The sporty interior of the compact SUV further gets boost with the addition of chrome on the door handles inside the cabin; cluster rings, window switches and air register tabs. Ford has also used lots of leather inside the cabin to give it a plush feel. Furthermore it gets some new features such as rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps for the convenience of the driver, it also gets electrochromic mirror which automatically deflects the beam of light when a trailing vehicle throws light from behind.
The biggest change however is the addition of better sound insulation inside the cabin which was a major complains for those who actually owned a diesel variant.
Ford Ecosport still continues with the three engine options for the Indian market which includes the 1.5 Litre petrol, the 1.0 Litre Ecoboost engine and the one and only 1.5 Litre diesel variant.
Although the 1.5 Litre petrol and the 1.0 Litre Ecoboost engine has not received any updates but the 1.5 Litre TDCi diesel engine has received a power boost. This engine now produces an impressive 100 Ps of peak power. This is also the same unit which powers the recently launched Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan and the Ford Figo hatchback. When it comes to fuel efficiency the 1.5 Litre TDCI diesel unit mated to a 5 speed manual transmission promises to return an impressive 22.27 km to a litre of fuel.
The 1.0 Litre Ecoboost engine on the other hand returns identical power output of 125 Ps but return an impressive fuel efficiency of 18.88 Km/L of fuel. The 1.5 Litre TiVCT petrol engine produces about 112 Ps of peak power while it also promises to return 15.85 Km to Litre of fuel. This engine comes paired to a five speed manual transmission while it also gets mated to a six-speed dual clutch PowerShift automatic transmission.
|Engine||Maximum power||Maximum Torque|
|1.0 litre Ecoboost||125 PS @ 6000rpm||170 Nm @ 1400-4500 rpm|
|1.5 litre Petrol||112 PS @ 6300 rpm||140 NM @ 4400 rpm|
|1.5 litre diesel||100 PS @ 3750 rpm||215 @ 1750-3000 rpm|
RIDE AND HANDLING
It is also heard that the refreshed Ecosport has also received some tweaks in the suspension system as well and also worked on the dampers and torsion beams at the rear of the car. The Ford engineers also played with the SUV’s Electronic stability programme and also its electronic power assisted steering setup to improve the overall handling and feedback.
Ford Ecosport uses high strength steel on its exterior which is strong as well as lightweight at the same time. It further gets 6 airbags which is also segment first. It further also gets Emergency Assistance which uses SYNC and a Bluetooth-paired phone to call emergency numbers during the time of an accident or mishap.

Presently there are plenty of rivals for the Ecosport in the market but we decided to choose the car which will provide some tough competition to the upcoming Ford Ecopsort facelift.
The S-Cross is the new car which will also help Maruti to actually enter the compact SUV or Crossover segment. Although it is offered with a 4 wheeld drive system in some other International markets of the world it will be launched only with 2 wheel drive variant in Indian market. The engine options which will be available under the hood of this Crossover are the 1.,6 Litre diesel unit which will be available with top end variants while the low end variants will get the 1.3 Litre Multijet unit which is also seen with plenty of other Maruti products as well.
The Ecosport is no doubt one of the best looking compact SUV’s in the Indian market and also one of the crowd favourites; it not only offers great looks but is also a good value for money product. The new and updated Ecosport too promises fair bit of deal and the new additions like daytime running lamps and directional lamps surely makes it more lucrative package, moreover the new and improved diesel engine promises more power as well as an improved fuel efficiency.
