The next generation Punto getsd a new platform, new styling and offcourse some peppy engines

This is not really an unknown fact anymore that Fiat is actually testing the new generation Punto and according to the sources Fiat has plans to launch the new generation hatchback in the International market in 2017. Now the good news is that they are also working on a car which will be launched in the Indian market as well almost at the same time. There are chances that Fiat won’t be making too many changes to the exterior between the International models and the model which will be launched in the markets of Europe and South America and India but their platforms offcourse will be different.

Our spy photographers were lucky enough to get some images of the Punto prototype while it was being tested on snow. Now although the prototype which was caught testing was covered in heavy camouflage but this however gives us some idea about what you could expect from the next generation Punto hatchback.

The current generation Punto which is available for sale in the Indian market definitely looks good and although Fiat has given it a facelift recently but we have to keep in mind that it is based on an old platform. Expect the new generation Punto to underpin a completely new platform which will be cheaper and also cost effective. Moreover the new generation Punto will be more spacious and loaded with goodies.

2016 Fiat Punto Pure

Is it true that we loved the pre-facelift Punto so much that we cannot actually let it go? Well that is what it looks to me because believe it or not we were actually quite surprised to see that gorgeous little Red car which took the center stage at the Fiat’s stall of the Auto Expo 2016.

Will this be little odd that you will have to think atleast once before actually choosing between the pre-facelift Punto and the current facelift Punto Evo which is available for sale from the year 2014 onward. Now definitely the new facelift Punto looks good and it has got everything to actually impress the new owners, be it its attractive Italian styling or sweet looking interiors.

The pre-facelift car on the other hand has already gone for sale in the Indian market and is renamed as Fiat Punto Pure. So definitely there are few differences that we noticed in this car and also some new additions as well. However this will be the entry level hatchback offering from Fiat which actually will raise its selling quotient a boost as well.

We were able to actually get up close and personal with this hatchback and were also able to collect some images and information as well which we have updated in this article from the Auto expo 2016.

Fiat didn’t showcase a lot of models at the recently concluded 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, but they surely showcased some stunning and impressive models. As it seems, their mantra for the Auto Expo 2016 was “Less is more”. The centre of attraction at the Fiat pavilion was Fiat Avventura Urban Cross, which looked pretty damn good. The Avventura Urban Cross will be launched in Indian market later in 2016. Accompanying the car was an all new Linea named as Linea 125s. It will also be launched later this year. There was a Fiat Punto Pure which was launched recently. They also showcased hot hatchbacks like Abarth Punto and Abarth 595 Competizione, which were also at the centre of attraction. Apart from this FCA owned Jeep entered the Indian market officially by launching their products like Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee and a performance oriented model Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.

Fiat Abarth Punto: Things You Want To Know

Fiat Abarth Punto: Things You Want To Know

Fiat introduced the high performance Abarth brand in India and the first product which was launched was the Abarth 595 Competizione. This is a high performance variant of the standard 2 door Fiat500 and is priced at around 29.85 Lakhs in India.

Now for those who loved this hatchback but backed out because of its steep pricing, won’t have to get disappointed because Fiat will also be launching the high performance variant of their existing Fiat Punto hatchback which will be priced much lower than the premium Fiat 595 Competizione.

To begin with let’s just say you might not be too impressed with the visual upgrades that it has received on its exterior as well as interior, but what it does get is a 1.4 Litre T-Jet engine under its hood which also powers the Linea sedan. Now here is the fun part the engine has been tuned to generate more power and torque, as a result of all that tuning, this engine will now produce about 145 Hp of peak power and 195 Nm of torque. That is an insane amount of power considering the size and weight of that hatchback. To do more justice to the engine this particular unit will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox, if driven with skills this hatchback will have the capability of sprinting from 0-100 km/h mark in under 10 seconds.

Coming to the exterior styling, well there isn’t much to really boast about, however it does get some cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the regular hatch. For instance, the Fiat Abarth Punto gets stylish 16 inch alloy wheels with the Scorpion logo on them; the front grille also gets contrast colors to them which makes it stand out amongst the crowd. Just like the 595 Competizione, the Abarth Punto too gets sporty decals towards the lower half of the side profile which also happens to be the signature styling of the Abarth brand. The last and the most surprising change is that the Abarth Punto does not get any Fiat badge anywhere on the outside as well inside the hatch, all the Fiat logo is actually replaced by the Abarth badges.

Fiat India's Future Plan Includes Three New Launches in 2015

Fiat India’s Future Plan Includes Three New Launches in 2015

Fiat India definitely has rung some right bells this time when they launched the facelift Punto and its brother from another mother Avventura Crossover. Still Fiat was unable to attract the attention they want and in order to get a better grip over the Indian market they decided to introduce some exclusive new products while also taking care of some serious after sales service issues which they already taken into consideration and started working on them.

According to the reports Fiat India will start their new innings by launching the 595 Competizione Abarth hot hatch in July, now this will be premium small hatchback which will be powered by a 1.4 Litre T-Jet engine that comes with fixed geometry turbo. This unit is capable of producing about 160 Ps of peak power at 5500 rpm and an impressive 230 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm (in sports mode). This car will also come mated to an AMT transmission while there will perhaps also be a manual transmission on offer too.

For those who cannot afford this premium luxury hatchback Fiat also have got something for their benefit too because the Italian Auto manufacturer will also be launching the Punto T-Jet variant which will produce about 135 Ps of peak power. This hatch was also recently spotted and it did not looked any different from the Punto Evo’s Emotion spec except the funky alloy wheels. But don’t get upset yet because hopefully Fiat also has plans to tweak the looks of the hatch to match its impressive and wild power output. Just to give you an idea of how powerful this car really is let me just inform you that its closest competitor will definitely be the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI which produces only 105 Ps of peak power.

Fiat Punto & Avventura To Recieve Punchier 1.4 Litre T-Jet Engine

Fiat Punto & Avventura To Recieve Punchier 1.4 Litre T-Jet Engine

Fiat is really making the right moves atleast for now in the Indian market. First they launched the facelift Punto Evo and believe it or not it looks like a complete new generation car more than a facelift, then they launched the much awaited Avventura Crossover which was first showcased at the 2014, Auto expo and is based on the Punto hatch.

Now according to Autocar India Fiat will be introducing a more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor which actually power the Linea T Jet sedan under the hood of the hatchback Punto and also its Crossover variant Avventura. This T-Jet unit produces about 113 Bhp of peak power which definitely is pretty lucrative amount of power for a hatchback. Coming to the performance part well! Although the Punto Evo is a hatchback but it weighs almost equal to a mid-sized sedan and even after it gets a more powerful engine the overall performance might be affected because of all that extra weight. If Fiat really installs this engine to its chassis this will make the Punto Evo almost equally powerful as the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI which uses a 1.2 Litre, direct-injection turbo motor which is mated to a 7 speed duel clutch transmission however the Punto Evo Turbocharged engine will be mated to a manual gearbox.

Expect the Punto EVO T-Jet to be launched soon and will be priced at around Rs. 7 Lakh while the Avventura with the same engine will be priced a lakh above the Hatchback variant. The interesting fact is that the Punto Evo T Jet will be the most powerful hatch offered in the Indian market to be priced under the 10 Lakh bracket.

In the months to follow, Fiat will be putting out a barrage of new models to tackle the competition. The latest offensive will include a compact crossover and a hatchback. The Punto is known for its spirited performance and precise handling. This has made it quite popular with enthusiasts. The new styling features would certainly make this an even more attractive car, especially for those who love to drive. The engine options will remain the same with a 1.3-liter diesel and 1.2-liter base petrol. The 1.4-liter petrol with 90 horsepower will be bought by those who really know their cars.

Used by Tata, Maruti Suzuki, Chevrolet and of course Fiat, this engine is featured in 6 different cars. Ironically the Fiat Punto only features in our list in number 10. Maruti, Tata and Chevrolet engineers have all managed to get better figures than Fiat engineers which is an irony. Also is a surprise that unlike 5 Maruti Suzuki’s which made it to our list of petrol hatchbacks, only 2 were able to make it in this time around.

2012 Fiat Punto Sport 90HP Special Edition

2012 Fiat Punto Sport 90HP Special Edition

Before Kimi Raikkonen returned to F1 the former champion tried his hand at rallying. The Fiat Punto S2000 was one of the car’s that he drove while on his sabbatical and just about every motorsport magazine carried a picture of the Punto completely crossed up at the exit of a corner with the tail hanging loose. Fiat India finds itself in a similar position. Completely crossed up and heading for troubled times. Their partnership with Tata Motors has ended and the manufacturer is looking for solutions to turn its fortunes around. The manufacturer has launched a limited edition of the Grande Punto Sport 90HP from its new Fiat Caffe in Pune. This is Fiat’s second Caffe, the first being in Delhi and the manufacturer has also recently opened its first exclusive dealership in Hyderabad. The Punto Sport is priced at Rs 7.36 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. “At FIAT, we believe in providing our customers with newer and better cars designed with the best-in-class comfort and technology. 2012 Fiat Punto

2012 Fiat Punto

It seems like its yesterday once again for Fiat India. Struggling to make its ends meet before the launch of the Grande Punto in 2009, with only the aged Palio in its lineup, Fiat sought a new direction. The Grande Punto did bring Fiat back onto its feet and along with the Linea, the two cars sold reasonably well. But it now seems that with newer and more interesting options in the market, the two cars are struggling and Fiat has made matters only worse by not introducing the facelift Punto which made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011. Rather, the manufacturer has launched an updated version of the Grande Punto hatch in January of this year and with its competitors being far more aggressive in bringing in facelifts, we believe that Fiat has missed out on an opportunity to add life to the Punto. Prices for the Punto start from Rs4,89,427 to Rs6,64,537 for the petrol and Rs5,57,252 to Rs7,18,119 for the diesel ex-showroom, New Delhi.

2009 Fiat Grande Punto

2009 Fiat Grande Punto

Punto is point for Italian. And by the looks of things the point that the Fiat Grande Punto seems to be making is that no one in the world can quite design a car like the Italians. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, one of the great automobile designers, the Punto showcases Italy’s famed talent for design. Before the launch of the Punto, Fiat was going through one of its worst phases since WWII and its automobile lineup was full of cheap and functional cars. The Grande Punto was one of the cars which were involved in the revival of Fiat. The Punto bears more than a little of the flair you’d hope for from a car made in Italy. In India too, the Punto was responsible for the revival of Fiat. With prices starting from Rs4,31,558 to Rs6,01,871 for the petrol and Rs5,17,578 to Rs6,84,763 for the diesel variant ex-showroom New Delhi, is there more to the Punto than just its good looks?
