The Successor Of The Punto Hatchback has been unveiled In Brazil and it looks damn good!

Fiat has unveiled the new Argo which is their latest hatchback and is expected to replace the ageing Punto both in the International as well as Indian market. The Fiat Punto arrived on the market back in 2005, and it’s already been 12 years since it has been on sale and there was no better time that Fiat could think of launching its replacement.

Now although the Argo is the successor of the Punto hatchback Fiat decided not to continue the Punto name for the successor. Although, Fiat hasn’t released any details yet except those two images but rumors on the internet state that this car will go on sale in Brazil in the next couple of months while the hatchback will also reach other International markets including the markets of Europe towards Q3 2017. As far as the Indian market is concerned to expect the hatchback to replace the Punto Evo In India when it launches here sometimes towards 2018.

Update 06.02.2017:- Fiat has released images of the new Fiat Argo along with some information about the drivetrains which will power the new hatchback. We have updated the details in this overview article of the hatchback

Coming to the design although the car has been developed in Brazil, it shares its styling inspiration from the Fiat Tipo hatchback which is already on sale in the markets of Europe. Towards the front, the Argo hatchback features Fiat’s latest grille which can also be seen on the Tipo hatch and sedan. The front grille is then flanked by the sharp looking double barrel full LED headlamps. There is also a LED daytime running lamps positioned just above the headlight unit. The sculpted hood, raked windshield helps give the car a bold appearance. Towards the side profile, there are plenty of character lines one which runs from the front silhouette of the car all the way towards the rear taillamps. There is another character line which runs just above the side skirt area. What else also looks interesting are the newly designed alloy wheels which look modern versions of the Scorpion wheels which are featured in the Abarth variants of the Fiat cars.

Just like front and rear profile, the rear profile looks equally intriguing as well the bolder lines and the Fiat badge just below the rear windscreen and the way the exhaust has been finished all goes well with the overall styling of the hatchback. However, we think this is the top end variant of the hatchback which has been showcased in these images.

The interior too looks quite mesmerising and modern as well. The hatchback gets two different shades on the dashboard which separates the upper and lower part of the dash. The various variants of the hatchback also feature different paints and stripes depending on the variants. What is common in all the variants is that that it features a touchscreen infotainment system mounted in the middle of the dash. While just below the dashboard it gets three separate round air con vents for the climate control system. The three-spoke steering wheel is also entirely new and gets a sporty overall appeal to it. What else also looks appealing is the new instrument cluster which takes a big multi-information display at the centre of the twin pods. The car also gets a traditional gear lever for the transmission while there is also a separate push button switch for automatic transmission.

There is no information released about the dimension yet, however, expect it to be slightly longer than the Punto hatchback which means better leg room towards the rear.

The mid variants will be powered by 1.3 FIREFLY Flex GSR unit which is capable of producing about 101 Hp of peak power at 6000 rpm and 13.7 kgfm of torque at 3500 rpm. The top end variant, on the other hand, will get the 1.8 16V E.TORQ VIS FLEX unit which produces about 135 Hp of peak power at 5750 rpm and 18.8 kgfm of torque at 3750 rpm. There are no words of its launch in the Indian market yet if it does expect the new Fiat Argo to come to the other side of the Ocean, not before 2019. When it does, it will be priced comparatively higher than its predecessor and will compete with some other premium hatchbacks like Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno.
