In the ’Dieselgate’ scam 11 million Volkswagen cars have been affected

Volkswagen has been one of the largest automaker of the world. But due to the recent Dieselgate scam their brand image has been affected very badly. The Dieselgate scam first came under light in the US, when several Volkswagen diesel cars equipped with the company’s EA 189 TDI engines were detected emitting 40 times higher Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) than the permitted emission limit.

The shocking fact was, that the automaker has been selling these cars across the world in several markets fitted with an emission cheating device, which emits less NOx in controlled environment like lab tests. Recently the German automaker took a decision to buy back or repair the affected cars, and it also agreed to give the affected customers compensations, as the repairs will reduce the performance and fuel economy of these cars. Here is a video showing how the emission cheating device works.

The German company will compensate the affected customers as well

As it seems Volkswagen trouble with Dieselgate scam is not getting over so easily. Finally the Volkswagen officials, lawyers and US government officials has come to a deal, according to which the German automaker will buy back the affected diesel cars which are equipped with the particular TDI engines and the emission cheating devices.

The German company will not only offer buy back options to the affected customers of those particular cars, but also give compensation to them. Although the German automaker is yet to reveal any detail officially, but they might offer buy back to those customers whose vehicles are relatively newer. The company will consider the facts like model year while buying back the cars. The owners of the newer cars will receive less compensation and the removal of the cheating devices. While the older vehicles will receive updates and more compensation, as these vehicles will be affected on the performance and fuel economy front after the cheating device removal. The amount of the compensation is not confirmed, but it might come between $1700 to $5000 depending on the car.

Volkswagen’s Dieselgate scam has been the biggest automotive scandal ever till date. The German company has been selling cars with emission cheating devices fitted to the TDI engines which emit less nitrogen oxide in controlled test environments. Whereas these cars were tested emitting 40% more nitrogen oxide in general environment. After the scandal came into light in US last year, several countries ordered probe against the company across the world. In India too the company was found selling cars fitted with emission cheating devices.

OVERVIEW 2016 Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza

2016 Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti’s first attempt at building a compact SUV. Does it tick all the right boxes?

Utter the name ‘Maruti Suzuki’, and the first image that comes to the mind of most Indians is of a reliable and famous small car manufacturing company, that is known for producing cost effective and fuel efficient cars. But off late, Maruti Suzuki is trying to shed its image of a budget car manufacturer, by expanding its portfolio and providing products around the 10 lakh price bracket. The Ciaz was an attempt in-line with these efforts to produce more premium cars, as was the highly debated decision of opening specialized premium NEXA outlets across the country.

And with Indian customer preferences shifting towards the crossover segment, it was high time that the country’s biggest car manufacturer launches its contender in the battle. Hence, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was launched on the 8th of March 2016, thus making Maruti’s debut in the sufficiently crowded sub-4m SUV segment.

The Brezza isn’t the first time that Maruti has ventured into the SUV segment. The Japanese car maker launched the Grand Vitara almost a decade ago, though it could not make its presence felt in the market. Therefore, the Brezza carries huge responsibilities of establishing Maruti’s presence in the SUV segment, while competing with established head-on competitors.

3877 Volkswagen Vento recalled

3877 Volkswagen Vento recalled

Reason behind the recall program is emission inconsistency

Volkswagen India has recalled a total of 3877 units of Vento sedan due to inconsistent Carbon Monoxide (CO) emission. The recalled Vento sedans are equipped with 1.5 litre diesel and manual transmissions. Apart from this the German automaker has stopped selling the particular Vento variant as well. The DSG transmission variants have not been called although, and these cars will continue to sell.

Volkswagen has been facing flaks all around the globe for their emission cheating devices fitted to the Volkswagen group vehicles. In India too the brand has sold plenty of cars which emit way higher level of NOx. But the company says, this is a completely different issue, and not related to the global emission scandal.

Volkswagen Vento comes with three engine options which include dual petrol engines and a single diesel engine. The diesel variant is powered by a 1.5 litre TDI turbocharged engine which gets mated to both a manual gearbox and a DSG unit. The powertrain churns out 105 PS peak power and 250 Nm peak torque. On the other hand the petrol variants include a 1.6 litre MPFi engine which churns out 105 PS peak power and 153 Nm peak torque. The other a smaller 1.2 litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine is there, which produces 105 PS peak power and 175 Nm peak torque. Both these engines come equipped with manual gearboxes with DSG transmissions as option.
