Expect the car to launch later this year
Ever thought of a SUV convertible? We also didn’t. But Land Rover made it possible when they unveiled the Range Rover Evoque Convertible last year. Interestingly, a camouflaged Evoque Convertible test mule have been spotted on a flatbed truck in India, which indicates the Land Rover is considering the Indian market seriously for launching this car in the country.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible doesn’t look different from the Evoque facelift. The major difference between these two cars is the retractable soft top. The front bumper gets a bit of redesigning touch with the massive air vents and rectangular shaped integrated LED fog lamps. The front grille also sports a revamped look. The roof system for this car is the Z convertible system, which can be opened and closed in around 18 seconds while cruising at a speed up to 48 kmph. At the rear the new LED taillights can be seen. It comes with a boot space of 251 litres. Inside the cabin, 4 persons can seat comfortably. The interior sports a boxy shape. It gets a multifunction steering wheel, classy instrument cluster and the infotainment system at the centre console also looks very stylish.
The test mule which was spotted in India gets power from a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 240 PS peak power and 340 Nm of peak torque. The car can reach 0 – 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 209 kmph. Expect the car to be launched in India sometime around later this year.
Mini adds one more model to their existing portfolio
The long awaited Mini Convertible 2016 has finally stepped on the Indian soil, at ex-showroom prices starting from 34.9 lakhs. At this price bracket, this new Mini Convertible is being touted as one of the most expensive hatchbacks on offer in the country. In addition to the Convertible 2016, Mini India (an entity of the BMW Group) sells three other models in its portfolio – Cooper, Cooper S, and Countryman.
The luxury hatchback segment in India has continuously showcased immense growth in the last couple of years. This growth is being attributed to the fact that the Indian economy is on an upward incline, but roads in the country are suffering from a shortage of space for large executive saloons. As a result, people are opting for hatchbacks that can offer luxuries of a high-end sedan, wrapped in relatively compact dimensions. Though Mini India was the only manufacturer fulfilling this customer requirement a couple of years back, various new brands have entered the luxury hatchback segment over time. In order to curb this competition, the British automaker has introduced the new Mini Convertible 2016 in the Indian market.
The Mini Cooper S goes topless
We are very much conscious about Volkswagen Beetle; those little bugs like vehicles have an irreplaceable and undeniable charm indeed. Although the German iconic car has a permanent place in every automobile enthusiast’s heart, but it is not sure why the MINI cars, which are substantially close to the Beetle’s, could not gain the permanent place in the petrol head’s heart.
Well, without going deeper we can assume Beetle has a long history and it was first produced as the first “people’s car” of the world. On the other hand, MINI vehicles have always delivered an elegant charm and aura which is not very close to the “people’s car” theory.
Coming back to India, BMW has made quite a profit in the country. But their subsidiary MINI couldn’t make it upto the mark. Only a few people of the country, mostly from the elegant class, use this car and that too, in a very small number. Getting Amitabh Bachchan as their prized customer MINI couldn’t afford a good share of Indian automobile market pie.
Convertibles bring us the charm and aura from the long gone era, when driving on street was so much pleasure, streets were not crowded. But as time evolved, convertibles also took a new face. MINI Cooper S Convertible come in the same way. The drop top version from the British iconic car manufacturer was unveiled a few days ago, just before the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. There is no news yet about the car launching in India. But as we have heard, this car may arrive in India sometime next year. Therefore we tried to bring our readers a detailed review of 2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible.
Update 17.03.2016: Mini Cooper S Converticble launched in India. We have updated the review with new informations and images.

Lamborghini Delhi Facebook page has left a teaser image on their wall of the Huracan Spyder which gives us a hint that perhaps after the launch of the Huracan Coupe and rear wheel drive Huracan 580-2 the Italian manufacturer might introduce the Huracan Spyder in India.
The Spyder is based on the same Huracan Coupe and it’s the same car waist down the only difference is that the Spyder gets a soft top which takes about 17 seconds to close or open. The soft top can be operated upto speeds of 50 km/h mark. The Huracan Spyder distinctive styling also features two movable fins which opens and closes when the roof is being operated. Apart from that the convertible also features wind guards, wind nets and a rear spoiler to reduce all the wind noise and turbulence when the person is actually enjoying the drive with roof down.
The Lamborghini Huracan uses the same 5.2-litre V10 engine which produces about 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque, the engine has been paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to all the 4 wheels. The Lamborghini Spyder can accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark in 3.4 seconds while it has a top speed of 324 km/h mark. Just like the Coupe the Spyder too is equipped with ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management) which comes with three drive settings including g the Strada, Sport and offcourse the Corsa mode.
The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder once launched in the Indian market will take on the likes of the Ferrari 488 Spider and expect the pricing to be around INR. 3 Crore mark once it is launched.
The concept of open air motoring in India may sound like an absolutely stupid idea especially keeping our congested traffic situation and our Indian climate in mind but that does not actually stop the manufacturer from introducing convertible models here in India. The latest car to enter the Indian market scene from Ferrari is called the 488 Spider, which happens to be the most powerful mid-rear mounted V8 car to feature a retractable hard top.
Now compared to the classic fabric soft-top the RTH (Retractable Hard Top) ensures better cockpit comfort, safety as well as lower weight. The 488 Spider just like every other Ferrari sportscars has that sweet Ferrari sound which actually comes out from that turbo charged naturally aspirated V8 unit. This turbo V8 unit has an constant power level upgrade across the rev range and thus eliminating turbo lag completely. The other features of the 488 Spider are its aluminum spaceframe chassis which not only provide rigidity but also makes the car even more aerodynamic.
The 488 Spider uses the same engine which also powers the 488 GTB, no other cars could perhaps match the brilliant amalgam of power and performance, although being an open top model this sporstcar can actually sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in just 3 seconds flat while the 200 km/h sprint is achievable in just 8.7 seconds.
Now that Lamborghini is here with their Huracan spider this two cars definitely are fierce rivals and the battle to claim the top spot has only begun.
