New Chevrolet Beat looks absolutely different compare to the outgoing model

Given the fact the compact hatchback is the most popular and competed segment in Indian market the Chevrolet Beat is a pretty popular model. The Chevrolet Beat is a hatchback with compact and stylish appearance. Based on the Spark hatchback the Chevrolet Beat can be called as a car for the developing markets, while the Spark is a model for the already developed markets.

Earlier this year when Chevrolet showcased the Beat Activ Concept, it made a sensation indeed, and what was clear, was that the American automaker is working on a new Beat. Now the General Motor subsidiary has unveiled the entire new Beat line up which consists of three different models. The Chevrolet Beat being the regular model with revised guise the Beat Activ will be a cross hatchback and the Beat Essentia will be a new Beat based compact sedan. Other than that, Chevrolet has also plan to launch two other models, in form of facelifted Chevrolet Trailblazer which has been unveiled in Brazil few days ago and the new Cruze sedan. Apart from that the automaker has announced they won’t be launching the Spin MPV in Indian market.

The new Chevrolet Beat comes bearing the same silhouette of the outgoing model, but the front fascia looks more appealing and boxy, which resembles with the new Spark’s contour. Moreover the new Beat also takes design cues from the Beat Activ concept. Expected to come later this year in Indian market the Chevrolet Beat will surely grab eyeballs in the traffic.

Up front the new Beat gets larger and rounding headlamp clusters compare to the outgoing model, the headlamp clusters also receive black accents at the lower part and integrated LED daytime running lights. The front grille gets a two part appearance with the upper part sporting a sleek chrome bar joining the headlamps, while the lower part gets honeycomb design. The front bumper has been revised and the round fog lamps sit pretty at both sides of the front bumper with black accents around them. The hood receives subtle character lines running toward the nose.

The side profile of the car has also received restyling touch, as the car gets almost plain look with less character lines and muscular appearance through the flared wheel arches. The car runs on five spoke alloy wheels, while the glass area have been blackened out with the waistline running upward toward the rear profile. Interestingly, the rear passenger door handles are positioned at the thick C pillar, just like the outgoing model. The rear will receive a revamped bumper and larger taillights with LED units. So far the car comes motivated by the design cues of the Chevrolet Spark which is sold in the developed markets. Dimensionally the new Chevrolet Beat might sit pretty close to the outgoing model.

On the competitive front the new Chevrolet Beat will take on the likes of Tata Tiago, Ford Figo, and Maruti-Suzuki Celerio. The Tata Tiago is a new car which bears a stylish and upmarket design, while the Maruti-Suzuki Celerio is a practical hatchback but not so appealing. Meanwhile the new Ford Figo comes bearing an absolutely stylish appearance, unlike the old Figo. In comparison with the Chevrolet Beat I would like to keep the new generation Ford Figo at the forefront, as the new Figo gets a very appealing design within the compact structure. Being compact hatchbacks all these models come under the sub four metre segment.

The interior of the Chevrolet Beat is a bit of mystery, but as we have seen the Beat Activ concept at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, it gave us a preview of the interior of the standard hatchback. In that case the next gen Beat will come featuring a dual tone interior theme, multifunction steering wheel, an instrument cluster, which seems taken right from a motorcycle and the center console will sport a 7 inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system. Expect the upholstery to come a bit more upmarket compare to the outgoing model.

Among the competitors, the Tata Tiago sports a pretty upmarket interior with the a multifunction steering wheel, dual pod instrument cluster with TFT display, piano black finished hexagonal centre console with MID and Harman developed sound system. The Ford Figo also gets a multifunction steering wheel, three analog dial consisting instrument cluster and a stylish center console which derives the design cue from Ford EcoSport. The centre console is the home for the MyFord Dock. The Maruti-Suzuki Celerio, which is another competitor against the new generation Chevrolet Beat gets a minimalist yet practical interior, but not as stylish as the other ones.

The next generation Chevrolet Beat will be available in both the petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant of the car would be powered by 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol engine which would be paired with a 5 speed manual transmission and kick out 76.8 bhp of peak power and 106.5 Nm of peak torque. While on the other hand the diesel variant would draw power from a 1.0 litre SMARTECH engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and churn out 56.3 bhp of peak power and 142.5 Nm of peak torque. Expect the car to come powered by fuel efficient engines.

The Tata Tiago is available in both the petrol and diesel engine options, which include a 1.2 litre Revotron engine and a 1.05 litre Revotorq engine, both being paired with a 5 speed manual transmission. The new generation Ford Figo comes available in three different engine options, which are 1.2 litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engine. On the other hand the Maruti-Suzuki Celerio is known as the most fuel efficient car in the Indian market. This car is powered by a 1.0 litre K10B petrol engine which is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and an AMT as well.

Engine 1.2 litre SMARTECH / 1.0 litre SMARTECH
Fuel type Petrol / Diesel
Transmission 5 speed manual
Maximum power 76.8 bhp / 56.3 bhp
Maximum torque 106.5 Nm / 142.5 Nm

The Chevrolet is yet to reveal any detail about the safety features of the new generation Chevy Beat, but expect this car to come with safety features like ABS, dual front airbags, a rigid body frame, rear park assist.

The Tata Tiago comes with safety features like dual front airbags, and ABS. Ford Figo Aspire also comes with a few safety features, while the Maruti-Suzuki Celerio is the most unsafe car among these four models. A few days ago in the Global NCAP crash test program Celerio received zero star safety rating.

The present generation Chevrolet Beat is available at price tags between INR. 4.33 lakh to INR. 6.58 lakh. The next generation Beat would come priced a bit higher than the outgoing model.

Tata Tiago gets a price tag between INR. 3.20 lakh to INR. 5.54 lakh, while the Ford Figo comes priced between INR. 4.47 lakh to INR. 7.61 lakh. On the other hand, the Maruti-Suzuki Celerio is priced between INR. 4.40 lakh to INR. 5.90 lakh.

Tata Tiago is the latest compact hatchback from Tata Motors, which was showcased and praised at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo. The compact hatchback gets a sporty design, which is attractive and the car has been designed following the automaker’s IMPACT design language. The Tiago gets several upmarket features inside the cabin. Ford launched the new Figo hatchback last year in India, which is completely different compare to the old model. The Figo has a stylish and global appeal resembling the present generation Ford models. The car comes with several features inside the cabin, and the power sources for this car are three different engines, which are 1.2 litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol and a 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engine.

Maruti-Suzuki Celerio is one of the most popular compact hatchbacks in Indian market, thanks to its peppy engine and great fuel economy. More over the affordability and the AMT gearbox has enhanced the appeal of the car. Power source for this car is a 1.0 litre engine, which is well performer and fuel efficient at the same time.

The Chevrolet Beat is already a pretty popular model. As we have seen the next generation Beat, the car looks capable to attract eyes on road. Adding some interesting and practical features inside the cabin and the fuel efficient engines will surely enhance the popularity of this small hatchback. But the tough competition will be a point, where Chevrolet will have to give attention.
