Volkswagen Ameo is the latest entrant in the highly competitive and growing popular sub-4 meter compact sedan segment of Indian automotive market. The Ameo has been launched very recently. This is the first India spec compact sedan the German auto manufacturer has developed. First unveiled just prior to the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, the Ameo created enormous interest among Indian customers in recent times.
The car is stylish and bears the Volkswagen’s present generation design language. The car is based on the Volkswagen Vento, a chopped off version although. The car features several stylish features inside the cabin. Initially the Ameo has been launched in a petrol variant only, but later on the model is expected to receive a diesel variant as well.

The Volkswagen Ameo has been designed bearing the same VW design language other cars from the automaker feature. The front sports sharp headlamps with horizontally slated front grille. It also receives chrome slats. The lower fascia receives wide air intake. The side profile comes with sharp character lines. The rear profile boasts sharply designed taillamps and deep cuts and creases. Apart from the chopped off boot of the Ameo the car can be mistaken as a Vento from distance. The front profile bears similarity with the Volkswagen Polo. So far, the car looks stylish like other VW cars and compare to the rivals the car looks pretty appealing.
CLASS LEADING INTERIOR FEATURES
Compare to the rivals the Volkswagen Ameo comes bearing a stylish interior which features multifunction steering wheel, dual analog and a TFT display consisting instrument cluster, dual tone dashboard 2DIN infotainment system at the centre console. The interior is pretty spacious, and despite being a sub-4 meter car Volkswagen Ameo offers sufficient space for the rear occupants in form of leg space, headroom and knee room. It also gets auto dimming rear view mirror, arm rests, rear AC vents, cruise control, rain sensing wipers etc.
INITIALLY PETROL ONLY POWERTRAIN
Although Volkswagen Ameo gets both petrol and diesel engines options under the hood as power source, but the petrol engine is on offer initially. The diesel variant will be introduced later on. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2 litre MPI petrol engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission churning out 74 bhp of peak power and 110 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant will receive a 1.5 litre TDI engine which would be paired with the same 5 speed manual gearbox and a 7 speed DSG would also be on offer. The power and torque output of the diesel variant of Volkswagen Ameo would be 88.7 bhp and 230 Nm respectively.
The Volkswagen Ameo is equipped with several safety features, which include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, rear parking sensor etc.
Volkswagen Ameo is available in three different trims, which are Trendline or the base trim, Comfortline or the middle trim and the Highline which is the top end trim. The trims are priced at INR. 5.14 lakh, INR. 5.88 lakh and INR. 6.91 lakh respectively in Mumbai. In Delhi the trims are priced at INR. 5.24 lakh, INR. 6.00 lakh and INR. 7.05 lakh respectively.
