The tenth generation of Honda Civic is a global car with the design being available in global market. Therefore the Indian market is about to taste the global design and features along with the brand value of Honda Civic. Earlier in 2008 the Japanese automaker sold the eighth generation Civic in Indian market, which couldn’t fetch the automaker good sales revenue due to the only petrol powertrain. As Indian customers are generally very price sensitive and the diesel is known to be more fuel efficient, several other automakers in the segment were launching the diesel powered cars which prompted the Honda to withdraw the Civic sedan from the market. In last few years the Indian market scenario has changed drastically, as the customers in the country are more open towards the premium cars and petrol powertrains. Moreover, the recent anti diesel vibe in the country will also help the 2018 Civic to catch attention to.

Unlike the eighth generation of Honda Civic the tenth generation model comes available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant of the car was available earlier, but there was no diesel powertrain available for this car in India. But the next generation model comes powered by both the engine options, which makes it more desired. The petrol engine will be a 1.8 litre unit which churns out 143 hp of peak power, while the diesel variant will be powered by a 1.5 litre engine which will kick out around 175 hp of peak power. There will be a 1.6 litre diesel engine available under the hood of the car which will pump out 120 hp of peak power. In India the NGT is planning to impose ban on 2000 cc and above large diesel engines, and in that case Honda Civic’s sub 2.0 litre engines will definitely give this car an edge. Moreover this range of diesel engines will give tough competition to the other models in the segment which are powered by diesel units.
