New Volkswagen Tiguan will launch in India sometime in next year
Volkswagen’s compact SUV Tiguan is all set to launch in India sometime in next year. The car will make a big impact in the most competitive compact SUV segment in Indian market, where already several models are present. The Volkswagen Tiguan made its Indian debut at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.
The Tiguan was first introduced in 2007, and after several changes and facelifts the new models looks absolutely impressive. The new Tiguan comes with several design updates, while the interior has been updated to more upmarket appearance as well. The Volkswagen India was supposed to launch the car in India in late 2016. But later the automaker shifted its priority toward the Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan, Volkswagen Polo GTI and the new generation VW Passat. This is why the Tiguan will come in the country in 2017. The German automaker unveiled the second generation Tiguan last September, and before the car reaches Indian shores, we will take a look at the bits and facts of this car.
MUSCULAR AND CHUNKY DESIGN
The Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the MQB platform. The car sports a bold and aggressive front fascia. The front fascia features sharp headlamps with LED units and LED daytime running lights. The front grille features three chrome garnished slats with the brand logo sitting at the centre. The front bumper has been redesigned with wider looking air intake, sleek fog lamps. At the side profile the Tiguan gets body cladding, side turning indicator integrated wing mirrors, roof rails. At the rear the car features wrap around taillamps, roof spoiler. The car sports skid plate at both the front and rear bottom, which delivers the off roading vibe.
Not only the design of the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan have been updated. But the car has been updated dimensionally as well. The new model has become 60 mm longer, 30 mm wider and the height has been shortened by 33 mm. It also comes with 77 mm of enhanced wheelbase, which means more space inside the cabin. The weight of the car has been reduced by 50 kilogram, which means the Tiguan will be much more fuel efficient. The luggage space for the car stands at 615 litres, while by folding the rear seats the space can be increased up to 1665 litres.
FEATURE PACKED SPACIOUS INTERIOR
The interior of the new Volkswagen Tiguan will be more spacious, thanks to the additional 77 mm of wheelbase. The rear passengers will enjoy 29 mm of knee room, which ensures a very comfortable journey for them. Talking about the features, the new Volkswagen Tiguan will sport the signature VW style, which is boxy and attractive. Up front inside the cabin it gets a multifunction steering wheel, dual analog dials and a large 5 inch digital display consisting instrument cluster. The centre console sports an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink. It also comes with several driving assisting features.
PEPPY AND EFFICIENT ENGINE
The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available is expected to get both the petrol and diesel engine options under the hood. The petrol Tiguan will come with four TSI petrol engine options, which will kick out power outputs of 123 bhp, 147 bhp, 177 bhp and 217 bhp of peak power. The diesel variant will be powered by a tried and tested 2.0 litre TDI engine generating 147 bhp. The transmission duty will be done by a 6 speed manual gearbox, while there will be a 7 speed SG automatic available as well. Expect the car to come fuel efficient and available in both the 2WD and AWD driving configurations.
IMPRESSIVE SAFETY FEATURES
The new Volkswagen Tiguan is pretty safe. The body frame is pretty much rigid and it is capable to withstand major blow. While the car gets safety features like multiple airbags, Front Assist, City Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Automatic pre collision braking system etc. And interestingly, all these features will come as standard.
EXPECT HIGHER PRICE
Volkswagen doesn’t have any plan to sell this car as a locally built model. But the company plans to import the car as a CBU or Completely Built Unit. This will surely enhance the pricing of the car in Indian market. Expect a price range between INR. 25 lakh to INR. 30 lakh for the car. Comparing the features and technology and the pricing it will take on the likes of Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and the BMW X1, which are more luxurious compare to the Tiguan.
