Toyota To Introduce New Base Variant Of The Fortuner Equipped With Smaller 2.5 L Engine
Is Toyota preparing themselves to face their arch rival Ford and their upcoming new generation Endeavour? Recently we have reported that Toyota has added a top end variant of the Fortuner which not only gets the 4X4 driving mode but also comes equipped with an automatic transmission.
Now according to Autocar India Toyota will also introduce a base variant of the Fortuner SUV which will come with a smaller 2.5 Litre diesel engine which actually does duty under the hood of their popular Toyota Innova MPV. The 2494cc turbo-diesel engine produces about 142 Bhp of peak power at 3400 rpm and 342 Nm of peak torque in between 1400-3400 rpm.
The base variant of the Fortuner won t be available with 4X4 driving mode but according to the reports it will most probably get the five speed automatic transmission while the standard gearbox on offer is a 5 speed manual. Expect the soon to be introduced Fortuner 2.5 Litre to be introduced with the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) body package as standard which will actually include duel tone radiator grille at the front, side skirts and also a rear spoiler, however it will miss out the HID headlamps which is available with the top end variants.
Expect the new Fortuner base variant equipped with a 2.5 Litre engine to be priced at around Rs. 24.44 lakh for the manual-gearbox variant while expect the 5 speed automatic to be priced at around Rs 25.44 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
