Toyota Innova continues to remain popular ; outsells other 3 row MPVs / SUVs
Since its launch in the market, the Innova has time and again been more popular than other 3 row offerings
Inspite of a so called high sticker price, buyers continue to prefer the Toyota Innova over other options in the market. July saw Toyota selling as many as 6093 units of this popular workhorse
The India car market has a lot of options when it comes to full sized SUVs or 3-row MPVs. Buyers can pick from the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio and the Hyundai Alcazar in the Rs 14-20 lakh market and yet, the good old offering from Toyota continues to woo buyers. The Innova remains the most popular choice and Toyota sold as many as 6093 units last month as compared to Mahindra selling 3855 units of the Scorpio and MG selling 3565 units of the Hector in the same month. Hyundai sold 3001 units of the Alcazar while the next closest competition came from Tata Safari with 1821 units being sold
So what makes the Innova so popular? Inspite of rising threat from rivals, buyers tend to opt for the Toyota offering due to two main reasons. The first is sheer peace of mind which comes from bullet proof reliability and the fact that an Innova can serve its owners for lakhs of kilometers without any major trouble. This alone is a big USP which rivals fail to offer. The second reason for buyers opting for this MPV is the highest resale value in the market. For years, used Innovas have fetched a far better valuation amount than rivals that are equally old. Infact, a 5-7 year Innova commands a price that is Rs 2-4 lakh more than what rivals fetch in the pre-owned space.
Other strong points of the Innova include a very comfortable ride quality, no matter if you are driving alone or with a load of passengers. Both the engine options, 2.4-litre turbo diesel and 2.7 petrol come with a choice of manual and automatic gearbox options, the cabin offers good space for 6-7 adults and this without compromising on the boot space. This is a strong reason why owners who want a ’real’ family vehicle opt for the Innova. The last row space remains unbeatable, not just for kids but also for adults as well. Prices start at Rs 16.5 lakh for the petrol range and Rs 17.6 lakh for the diesel line up. At these prices, given its USP, the Innova continues to win hearts each month
