It will be interesting to see whether the new updates will help Volvo’s flagship SUV take on the rivals like the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS
Volvo is now shifting towards hybrid powertrains and is replacing its diesel-powered cars in the brand’s portfolio with cleaner and more sophisticated powertrains. The Swedish manufacturer recently introduced the new XC90 in the country, which not only gets many new features but also gets a completely new mild-hybrid petrol engine.
The new Volvo XC90 petrol-hybrid looks similar to the earlier iterations of the car and gets a similar design upfront. The vehicle also retains its alloy wheels and continues to feature an elegant and sophisticated design language that gives it a premium look and a strong road presence. The car also features attractive headlights with integrated DRLs. The XC90 can be had in four exterior colour options - Crystal White Pearl, Onyx Black, Denim Blue, and Pine Grey.
Scandinavian Design At Its Very Best
Just like the exteriors, the interiors of the car too remain unchanged. The buyers of the car can choose from two interior themes - Amber and Brown. In addition to this, we can also find wood, metal, crystal, and leather elements inside the cabin that makes it luxurious and a nice car to be in. Needless to say, the seats offer impressive comfort and the car is definitely a great choice for those who spend long hours on the roads.
Is The Engine New?
The new XC90 now gets a new powertrain that replaces the older 2.0-L diesel engine. The car is now powered by a 2.0-L turbo petrol engine that churns out 300hp and 430Nm of peak torque. Being a mild-hybrid engine, this unit gets a 48V integrated starter-generator motor. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In addition to this, the buyers can also opt for the petrol plug-in hybrid model that gets a 303 hp petrol engine with an 87hp electric motor. There will no longer be a diesel engine on offer.
How Good Is The Updated Features List?
Major updates made to the features set include the addition of a new ’Advanced Air Cleaner’ system along with a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apart from this, the car also gets features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, heads-up display, and other feel-good features like adaptive cruise control, heated front seats with massage function, and a four-zone auto climate control.
