We all know that Maruti will be launching the diesel variant of the Celerio soon in India and it will be powered by a newly developed diesel unit.
The 793 cc, 3 cylinder unit promises to produce about 47 Bhp of peak power at 3500 rpm and 127 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. This new engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual transmission while there are no talks of introducing an AMT transmission unit with this engine anytime soon. Now the interesting part according to the source the newly developed diesel engine promises to return an impressive ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 27.62 Km/ l.
Now many of you might also feel that the this diesel engine might be underpowered because while its other rivals including the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Chevrolet Beat produces comparatively more amount of torque compared to the Maruti Celerio Diesel. But keeping the fuel efficiency perspective in mind this engine will surely be preferred by many customers who looks for a fuel efficient diesel hatchback.
Expect the Celerio diesel hatch to be priced in between INR. 4.50-5.50 Lakhs (ex showroom) and as already mentioned above it will compete directly with the diesel variant of the Grand i10 and Chevy Beat.
