Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its much awaited micro SUV, the Punch. Earlier known as HBX, the Punch will soon be dispatched to dealers across the country. Infact, unofficial bookings have started and the company will reveal the line-up along with prices very soon. The Punch will rub shoulders with other micro SUVs like the Mahindra KUV100 and the Nexa Ignis. It will also attract in customers who are in the market for a mid-size hatchback like the Swift or the Grand i10 NIOS.

Tata Motors has always played the value card in an excellent way and the Punch will be no different. The current Tiago has a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh while the premium Altroz is priced from Rs 5.8 lakh onwards. The Punch will be positioned between these two products but as introductory pricing, Tata might just offer the Punch sub-5 lakh pricing. This will definitely bring in a lot of customers, just what the company needs to celebrate the upcoming festive season in style.

The Punch will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will be offered in both non-turbo (naturally aspirated) as well as turbo charged avatars. AMT or automated manual transmission will be optional and as per the latest teasers, the Punch will be offered with segment first features like drive and terrain modes. This will further enhance its appeal as an SUV. The micro SUV is expected to offer certified mileage of about 18-20 kmpl. Official images have also hinted at tyres with generous width and ample ground clearance on offer. The Punch, like most its siblings, might also carry a 4+ rating as per global NCAP crash ratings.

More details are awaited in the coming few days. That said, I have already booked the vehicle (unofficially) and look forward to a great experience with Tata’s latest. The upcoming Hyundai Casper micro SUV (later this year) will surely give this one a tough time. But which one will win customers’ hearts? Only time will tell...
