Tata Kite 5 Compact Sedan in A Nutshell
Tata Kite 5 compact sedan is based on the Tata Tiago compact hatchback
Tata Motors has a strong presence in Indian market. But the company is known for making practical but dull looking cars. In recent times the automaker has tried to change the image and therefore making some stylish models. Last year the company unveiled the hatchback Tata Tiago (Then Zica) which was launched earlier this year. The sporty looking compact hatchback has garnered pretty much success in short time post launch. But the company is planning to introduce more new models in several segments. One of them is the Tata Tiago based compact sedan, which is yet to be named, but showcased earlier as the Tata Kite 5.
At the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo the Tata Kite 5 compact sedan caught everyone’s attention. It might be a compact sedan. But the all new car offers several features, which is segment leading. The car is in the last phase of development, as the automaker is expected to launch the Kite 5 sedan soon. Meanwhile we take a look at the car and check what the interesting facts about the Tata Kite 5 are.
THE NAME COULD BE SWAY
Although it is not confirmed yet, but the Tata Kite 5 sedan’s production version might come christened as Tata Sway. When the auto manufacturer launches it later this year, it is going to be the third compact sedan from the Tata Motors. Rumors suggest that the Indian automaker is considering three other names for the car which are Tata Ingrid, Tata Dribble and Tata Canvas.
NEXT PRODUCT FOLLOWING ‘IMPACT’ DESIGN LANGUAGE
The Tata Kite 5 has been designed following the IMPACT design language, which has been incorporated in the Tata Tiago as well. Not only that, the Tata Bolt and the Tata Zest also features the same design language. This new design language portrays a global appeal, and expect several other Tata Motors’ cars to come featuring this design language in future.
LOOKS IDENTICAL TIAGO SANS THE BOOT
No wonder being based on the Tata Tiago hatchback the compact sedan also boast loads of similarities both at exterior and inside the cabin. The front fascia of both the cars looks similar with sharp wrap around headlamps, piano black finished smiling grille, slated air intake with honeycomb mesh grille, chrome garnished fog lamps. Inside the cabin the hatchback and the compact sedan features similar looks very much identical with the multifunction steering wheel, dual analog dials and a TFT display consisting instrument cluster. The piano black finished hexagonal centre console of both the cars feature a MID flanked with several control buttons and slated AC vents.
The Tata Kite 5 compact sedan features a nicely curved coupe roofline instead of a sedan, which actually makes the car pretty appealing. Due to the coupe roofline the car’s boot looks very short, but it has increased the rear passenger door space.
SEGMENT LEADING CARGO SPACE
The Tata Kite 5 comes with a segment leading boot space of 421 litres. No wonder, a compact sedan bearing such an enormous amount of space at the rear will allow loads of luggage to be put there. Clearly a point to be noted, while purchasing a family sedan.
PETROL AND DIESEL ENGINES
The Tata Kite 5 compact sedan being based on the Tata Tiago compact hatchback shares the same engines with the hatchback sibling. The engine options are a 1.2 litre Revotron engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox which churns out 85 PS of peak power and 114 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant on the other hand is equipped with a 1.05 litre Revotorq engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission, kicking out 70 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The might receive an AMT gearbox later, as the reports suggest. The compact sedan is expected to come as fuel efficient as its hatchback sibling is. The petrol variant would deliver 23.84 kmpl of fuel economy and the diesel variant will deliver 27.28 kmpl of fuel economy.
TOO MANY ESTABLISHED COMPETITORS
The Tata Kite 5 compact sedan will directly compete against the rivals like Maruti-Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, and Ford Figo Aspire. No wonder all these competitors being pretty popular and established models it will be a tough task for the Tata Kite 5 compact sedan. In the Tata Motors lineup the car will be positioned below the Tata Zest, which was launched earlier. Incidentally both the cars share the same IMPACT design language.
