The talk of the town in Indian automobile industry at present is all about the upcoming compact hatchback Tata Zica. The fresh looking compact hatchback was unveiled a few days ago. This car will be the replacement of the Tata Indica, and it will be launched in a few days. Once launched, this small car will directly compete against cars like Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10. The fresh design language, Tata brand name, attractive features, aggressive pricing, all of it make this car a very competitive model indeed.

Earlier, when we first heard about the upcoming compact hatchback, it has been referred as the Tata Kite hatchback. Now, after the launch of this car we will also experience another compact sedan which will be based on the same platform and that is named as the Tata Kite compact sedan. Tata Zica being the latest entrant in the segment brings fresh design language, which is appealing to the urban customers. The compact hatchback is based on the same XO platform, which was the home for Tata India, Zica’s predecessor. Although the Zica looks completely different, thanks to Tata’s European technical centre. It adorns vertical honeycomb grilles placed at the rounded front, while the headlamps look sharp. From nose to toe, the car sports a stylish appearance. On the other hand, the rivals like Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10 are ageing models. Compare to these cars, Zica looks very much appealing.

Dimensionally speaking, Tata Zica is longer and wider than other three models. It comes with a length of 3746 mm, while the width is 1647 mm. The 1535 mm height of Zica indicates a better headroom and leg space inside the car. 170 mm ground clearance means it can overcome small challenges on roads like potholes, bumps with ease. Tata Zica will be available in both petrol and diesel powertrains. Not only that, it is claimed to be the best among the fray when it comes to power output. The 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox in Zica produces 85 PS peak power, while the 1.05 litre Revotorq diesel unit paired with 5 speed manual gearbox will generate 70 PS. On the other hand, in the petrol segment, Chevrolet Beat comes closest with 77.9 PS. Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai i10 produce 68 PS and 69 PS respectively. Take a look at the comparison table.

So far, Tata Zica is not only the longest and widest car among these four rivaling cars, but also the most powerful one considering the power and torque outputs. The pricing detail is not revealed yet. But we expect it to be priced at around INR. 4-6 lakhs, which will surely make it the best option for the potential customers.
